This place used to have a good atmosphere, however, i was disappointed to stay in the short term accommodation recently. There was dust floating in the room, one of the showers was overflowing, there was no dishwashing liquide in the shared kitchen. There was poor customer service at one exception. Unfortunately in my opinion this place has lost the charm it once had and for the price i paid i would highly suggest booking elsewhere.
We booked here last minute on our way into Auckland, excited for the opportunity to do some yoga and stay at the centre. Upon arrival, they couldn’t find our booking and there wasn’t clear instructions of where to park our vehicle. Poor and inefficient customer experience. The delay in checkin meant we were late to the yoga class. Classes were free when we were there and the yoga facility was nice. Was unsure if there were covid measures or precautions in place- shared wool blankets handed out. It was dark and couldn’t find the kitchen after, so ended up in a larger kitchen area which was very unclean, including dirty shelves and a rotting banana in the cupboard, presumably from longer term guests at the centre. The room itself was basic, but overpriced for what it was. A fixture (perhaps water fixture?) was broken and fixed with large amounts of duct tape on the ceiling- didn’t look safe or professional. The place is ok if you like rustic and don’t mind the slightly weird vibe. I love retreat centres like this usually and was overall disappointed. The place has lots of potential with better customer service, cleaner facilities, and better run centre overall. Wouldn’t return. …
This is the worst place I've ever stayed. I mean that! I didn't get a wink of sleep my entire stay because every single movement from the room above echoed noisily through the thin ceilings and into my room. The footsteps were literally like drums. The surroundings are nice enough and the forest is wonderful, but if you value your sleep AT ALL do not stay here. Even with my ear plugs in I was kept awake all night by the routine movements of the guests in the room above. Not their fault, they were just moving around normally. To make matters worse, when I brought this to the attention of the manager I was offered no refund, or discount, or room move. Absolutely shocking hospitality.
What a beautiful discovery of this place was. Totally unexpected! The grounds were full of sweeping trees-amazing views of the bush and such a relaxing atmosphere. When I entered my single room I discovered they had turned the heater on. What a lovely gesture! I had a great night sleep too! The toilet & bathroom facilities were a short distance away. My accommodation was all I needed for the one night. I had done a lot of driving at Bay of the Islands as I am from Australia & I chose to stay here to recharge my battery before I drove back over the bridge into Auckland and continue my journey further down.
While I have not stayed here I have had friends who have lived here. Their kitchen is lovely as they serve vegan and vegetarian meals. I personally travel here for their Spirit Festivals and Yoga Festivals. Both are incredible experiences that I highly suggest going to. It is very community-centric and a spiritual place to stay if you are looking for a wholesome travel experience. If I were to stay here I would check out some of the events they have going on daily. Would suggest staying here just because of the sheer beauty of the surrounding area and positive signs. Lifts your spirits.
