During a walking tour of the Peak District and surroundings I had the pleasure of spending a night at The Barley Mow Inn in Kirk Ireton I had heard of the inn through the internet where people spoke highly of its simple, rustic and friendly atmosphere. I booked accommodation there and I was not disappointed. Tony and Mary Short, the...

On holiday with friends, we walked from Shottle to Carsington Water, and came across the Barley Mow Inn on our route. At first we were not sure if it was open, as it looks like an old house. The bar almost seems like it is in someones front room, and the beers on offer were not like the beers you...

What to expect. A bed, a bathroom, tv , tea/coffee making facilities and breakfast all to an average standard and you will not be disappointed. We really enjoyed our 3 night stay in the twin room and once you become use to Mary, Jenny and Tony(owners) they are actually very sweet with good hearts and really love their beautiful village...

One day in Carsington the mist came down and you couldnt see ten feet in front; there were Derbyshire sights to be seen but you couldnt see them one this day so we took refuge in the Barley Mow, where the fire was lit. Great local ales in casks served through a little hatch, big dog wandering through, we sat...

My friends and I visited the pub a few weeks ago. It would not be to everyones taste as it is a very old and quirky pub but well worth the visit. It was like stepping back in time. Its a family run pub and the owners are very friendly.

We were staying in a cottage at Kirk Ireton to let in the New Year. We wandered into the Barley Mow which is just as it is described in the other reviews. Very Quirky with a small hatch where the beer is served from a jug. Only enough to seat about 20 people but everyone was very friendly. At about...

The pub is a wonderful experience with 'unspoilt' not doing it justice. If you like chain pubs this probably isn't for you but the Barley Mow with its beer from the casks (no food - the community shop is next door) is a wonderful place to while away the hours. I stayed overnight in one of the rooms across the...

We stay near here quite often and always look forward to a drink here, it is like stepping back in time when you walk in with just four tables (there are benches outside) and the small bar in the corner. With a small choice of real ales and cider that are served from tapped barrels on a shelf behind the...

Just a great pub, unchanged over the years, clearly very much a 'local' pub, but equally friendly to passing trade. Beer well kept and served from a jug. They don't serve food, but if you know that it's not a problem. Nice benches out the front to sit and watch life go by in the village. We only get over...

A visit to this old pub is like stepping back in time to the 17 or 18 century. The main bar is just one room with low beams and a fireplace , seating maybe 30 people. You get your drinks from a hatch in the corner and beer is served from a jug. The elderly couple who run it are...
