Bab Ourika perches majestically on a hilltop at the apex of the Ourika Valley, guarding the gateway to the snow-capped Atlas Mountains – yet it is only 45 minutes from Marrakech’s International airport. With 360 degree panoramic views, this innovative new hotel receives warm sunlight all day, ending in spectacular sunsets. From its unique eyrie-like position it offers a birds eye view of the Atlas, of traditional Berber villages and of the lush river valley below. The Kasbah is one of the most eco-friendly hotels in Morocco; constructed principally from rammed earth, the traditional Berber building technique, it seems almost to have grown out of the rocks beneath. The thick walls provide such good insulation that air-conditioning is unnecessary. Solar panels provide hot water for the hotel and and the underfloor heating in the dining and bar area. Soon a biodigester will provide electricity and compost not only for the hotel but also for the village below.

As others have said, the setting is extraordinary. A dusty and at times perilous drive up through poor villages with animals and rubbish strewn sidings leads to this oasis of class and style. Many of the staff live in the local village and I was again struck and embarrassed by the inequality of the world as we were lead through the sumptuous innards of the hotel.

The trek through the mountains with a picnic lunch arriving by donkey is a wonderful experience which I shall remember forever.

The staff are excellent, as is the food. The gardens are truly beautiful with many quiet places to sit and absorb the breathtaking scenery.

Niggles. The hot water was variable and in general not great. Our January visit was sunny and cold. The open fire in the room for the evening was romantic and warm. The mornings were freezing and the journey from the bed to the lukewarm shower to being dressed was as fast as it was unpleasant. The towels started large and got smaller as our stay went on. It was actually quite funny and we started to doubt our own sanity until they returned to their original size on our final day. The prices are high for everything; a fact made no less disappointing by its being typical in a captive-guest setting. No coffee or tea in the rooms. No WiFi in the rooms.

We loved the place!

Bab Ourika is certainly the most stylish hotel with the greatest views in Morocco.
Wherever you go the views are breathtaking!
The food is excellent and the staff discreet and genuinely welcoming.
I travel around the world and don't normally write reviews about properties but after my stay at Bab ourika I needed to say that this hotel is now my favourite place in the World.
It is owned by a charming English - Portuguese couple who put their heart on it and you can feel it in the interiors and attention to the detail as well the attention to the guests.
We felt home here.
Cant wait to be back soon.

45 minutes drive from the airport and you are in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. Hotel sits on the top of a ridge with fabulous views all sides. Staff were friendly, welcoming and extremely helpful, room was very comfortable ( if you are tall like me you may have to duck through some of the doors) and the food excellent, you could tell fresh local produce was used.

It’s difficult to believe that this hotel was built from scratch not that long ago. The design, construction features, interiors and furnishings have been completed with great care in order to create the look and feel of a much older grand kasbah property. And they have certainly succeeded.

The hotel is beautifully situated on top of a hill overlooking the Ourika Valley with extensive views across and down the valley. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing, although there was a substantial production crew filming for Netflix on site while we were there and this was somewhat intrusive at times unfortunately. The gardens are extensive and worth exploring, with lots of places to sit, relax and take in the views. There is a pleasant open air swimming pool in the gardens also.

Our rooms were large and traditionally furnished with either a small private garden or a private patio depending on location.

Breakfast is the usual buffet and adequate rather than inspiring. Dinner is either in the atrium/courtyard or on a lovely open terrace, depending on the weather, and was very good indeed, as was the service. The wine list is brevity in the extreme in that it consists of only the names of the individual wines - no information on which area it has come from, no information on the grapes and no description at all. Unfortunately the lack of knowledge of the waiters on the wines doesn’t help. We asked about a red wine and were told it was a Cabernet Sauvignon. When it came it was in fact a very nice wine but much lighter than we had been led to believe, and the rear label revealed it to be a blend of Grenache, cinsault and carignan

Having said that dinner service was good, the service for pre-dinner drinks has been lamentably slow, at least so far. There were plenty staff around, but even when there were few others ordering drinks, it took ages. We couldn’t work out why, unless the bar itself is the bottleneck.

These relatively minor quibbles apart, and they would be easily fixed, this is a great relaxing place to stay. We enjoyed it a lot.

Our visit to Kasbah Bab Ourika was cut short, due to the evolving Covid19 situation, and the need to get back to the UK quickly.
We loved the hotel, it’s amenities, spectacular setting, and charming rooms. So many places in the garden to sit and relax, while taking in the views.
This is not a band or corporate hotel, but provides charming and personalised service.
It was rather chilly when we arrived, so the fire was lit in the sitting room, all very cosy.
The owner, Stephen, was ever present, and attentive, and trying to help us in any way possible in our predicament.
We would like to return one day, when the world returns to normality.
Wishing the owner and his team of staff all the best while the hotel is closed- we think of you in your mountaintop eyrie!

Overall we had a great time at Bab Ourika. The views are stunning and there are so many areas to relax (including a hidden reading hut which we found towards the end of our stay) that we never felt there were too many guests around. The pool was lovely and it is clear they take pride in the upkeep of the gardens which were pristine - there was always at least a couple of staff working on them. We loved our welcome from the resident pug Poppy who also kept us company in the evenings, very happy to sleep by your feet in one of the cosy drawing rooms or bar area. The food was very good with a small but delicious lunch & dinner menu which changed daily. We met the owner Stephen on our last night who is your typical eccentric English gent and very hospitable! We didn’t do any of the walking tours as I was 6 months pregnant at the time of staying, but have heard they are worthwhile.

The Kasbah really is a stunning property. The views are extraordinary and the gardens beautifully maintained. My deluxe room was spotlessly clean and characterful, with lovely local toiletries provided. I took one of the guided hikes, which was tough but absolutely worth it. The staff were friendly and pleasant at all times. My only (very slight) gripe would be with the food. The daily menus for lunch and dinner offered little choice, and only offered traditional Moroccan food. Sometimes I would have had a preference for something a little lighter, particularly at lunchtime, so a snack menu would definitely be of benefit. The Kasbah isn't cheap, but it is worth it, although I did think for the price of the rooms and considering the remote location and limited choice on offer, including all meals in the room price would have been a benefit. Overall, however, I would certainly return in a heartbeat.

A 90 minute drive from Marrakech took us into the high atlas mountains and our hotel for two nights. We were allocated room 4 on the first floor. The room was a little tired but had a comfortable KSB with plenty of wardrobe space, there was no aircon but in its place a ceiling fan and a free-standing fan, both of which a little antiquated and rather noisy. The bathroom was a good size with a lovely shower and free toiletries, there was also a hairdryer in the room. There was also a small terrace with a sofa and chairs which gave great views across the valley. Wifi was only available in the reception area and then the speed was fairly slow to download. The gardens are extensive and lovely to walk around and there is a reasonable sized pool with plenty of sun loungers. However, if you wanted drinks or food by the pool you had to go to the restaurant area to order them. The restaurant was open air (I believe there is one inside as well) with again lovely views, breakfast was a buffet of the usual fare and eggs could be ordered cooked however you wanted. Evening meals were a la carte and of a good variety and well cooked. Service was at times a little slow and disorganised but there is nowhere else to go in the evening, so go with the flow.

Kasbah Bab Ourika exceeded our expectations. The property is exceptional. Its perfectly manicured lawns are surrounded by 360 views of the mountains. It's spacious, well designed, a feels like an oasis. We stayed at Kasbah Bab Ourika for 3 days and enjoyed relaxing by the pool, walking the grounds, and disconnecting. We also did facial treatments, which were well priced and a nice way to recover after traveling.

We had a Suite with the Garden View and superior rooms. The suite was extremely spacious and the Kitchenette was filled with waters and snacks. We had a large fireplace and a big, comfortable seating area for hanging out. It felt private and relaxing.

We enjoyed lunch outside each day and a cozy dinner every evening. The food was very good and we also took advantage of the library room to enjoy a cocktail and the fire.

It was the perfect way to end our 10 day adventure in Morocco. We left feeling energized and so enjoyed the time in nature.

This place is a kind of paradise. We stayed one night, as we’d waited too late to book for a multi-night stay and took what we could get for two adults and two girls, aged 8 and 6. We had a larger room in the garden, which had room for two twin beds and a King, that turned out to open to a small pool surrounded by a grassy area, all of which shared a million dollar view.

Rooms in this part of the hotel were in a separate building with comfortable common spaces (places to sit and gather, including multiple fire places, and our breakfast (included in the room rate) was a buffet in one of those spaces, and was a terrific meal with a spread of great choices. I became a big fan of the square, laminated Moroccan pancakes, but also enjoyed the smoked salmon, milk, cereal, fruits and coffee.

While we were there the service was consistently thoughtful and excellent. Food was diverse, wonderful (lunch on the patio under an arbor of live flowering vines, dinner in the main part of the hotel) and the ethos of the place, with an emphasis on sustainability and fresh organic food, helped emphasize the notion that this was a place to rest, recharge and to leave more well than when one arrived.

We will gladly return in the future to stay again, this time for much longer.

There are a few places not so far away, but probably it is best to stay at the Kasbah. If you plan a day trip to Idlib, you cab stop to have lunch at Kasbah Tamadot (the Kasbah of Richard Branson).
