Very pleasant staff and food is alright. but bedrooms disappointing. Only enough hot water for one person (electric shower) bathroom floor quite treacherous, I have a mighty bruise and nearly broke my spectacles. Take great care if you stay here. I have stayed in places at similar price which are far superior

We came for a family meal during the week. The food here is really good (we have been a couple of times), you can tell it is made fresh and is of good quality. The only thing is the service is quite slow!

Went with a group for Sunday lunch. The food was excellent. My main was great (although the smoked salmon starter was tiny and thus poor value), but the main was wonderful. My husbands Kamba looked wonderful as did my friends beef. The young lady on the bar was very polite too. Slight smell in the garden (we weren't sure of...

We booked an overnight stay in two single rooms whilst walking in the Black Mountains. The rooms were very comfortable and quite despite the Hotel being on the main road. Double glazing is clearly very good quality as is everything about this lovely Inn. Dinner was very nice, beautifully presented and delicious. Vegetarians are also well catered for. This included...

Called in today to see if this would be the sort of place we would like to lunch in and found a comfortable bar and pleasant surroundings. Food looked and smelled good, so we will return. Note to cyclists/runners in the bar - keep your shirts on. No one wants to see you sweaty naked chest. Although the Portway says...

Long time since I've been to The Portway, but it won't be long before I go back. Lovely lunch there today. I was with two friends and we all really enjoyed our food, the place and the staff were really lovely. I can personally recommend the seniors fish and chips - perfect amount of food, and tasted great. Home made...

Lovely restaurant, recently re-decorated. We were there on a Saturday lunchtime to celebrate a birthday. Food quality and service very excellent. The portions were a good size and excellent quality locally sourced beef and fresh fish. There was a short wait for the mains, of about 20 minutes, to allow for the steak and ale pie in short crust pastry...

The staff without exception were welcoming, courteous and efficient. Our room was perfect, huge bed and comfy seating, and the bathroom with shower was clean and spacious with generous toiletries supplied. Plenty to choose from at breakfast, and the Full English, cooked to order, was the best ever. Good selection on dinner menu, local produce sourced and well presented. All...

We stayed at The Portway Inn for a weekend away in march. The room we had was lovely, spacious and clean and very cosy. We loved the sloping floors and traditional feel. We had dinner on Friday after realising it's steak night. We were definitely not disappointed. Lovely steaks, cooked perfectly. Fantastic friendly service too. The bar area had a...

Stayed for two nights and had a really enjoyable break. The staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful and the food was excellent. it's a very old building so expect creaky sloping floors and lots of old world charm but with a good contemporary menu and first class service this is definitely worth a visit.
