Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We spent one night and one full day in this lovingly restored family home overlooking beautiful St. Mary's Bay. Attention to detail - binoculars, umbrellas, stellar collection of children's books, kitchen fully equipped including a selection of specialty teas!!
Only wish we could have stayed longer - we will be back.
Driftwood Cottage engenders a feeling of peace and happiness.
Not to be missed if you are spending any time in Newfoundland.

We really enjoyed our time on the Southern Avalon. We went for the rumoured surfing opportunities and were not disappointed. There is a lot to do in this area, including surfing right in the town of Branch if the waves are right. The Driftwood Cottage was really fantastic...very comfortable, very clean, well maintained and tastefully decorated. The owners seem to have thought of everything you might need. There are some kids toys and lots of books. The kitchen is well appointed and stocked with all the gear you need to live very well. The outside deck is just a complete winner....on a sunny evening it may be the nicest place in Newfoundland. The little town of Branch is friendly but quiet most nights. There is a little convenience store a short walk from the cottage, where beer is sold. The cottage is stocked with all the little extras that make it feel like home

The bedrooms are comfortable and nicely decorated though a little "romantic" for young children. Never mind, everything else is so colourful and clean that the kids won't want to be in the bedrooms anyways. The bathroom is clean and spacious...rare for a Newfoundland B&B.

All in all this place is a winner.

My only suggestion? Some kind of a hose installed outside so that surfers can rinse off their gear and wetsuits after a day at Point Lance.

We stumbled across The Driftwood Cottage, and what a pleasant find it was. The cottage is beautiful inside and out. The whole interior has been renovated and is super quaint. Situated in Branch on a hill overlooking the harbour, the view is beautiful. Very clean, and so many nice touches - the binoculars, the books, even eggs, and home made bread left for us to prepare our own breakfast. We felt that we were actually living in Newfoundland on the ocean...even just for the day. Thank you for a very memorable stay in Branch!

I work in the Newfoundland tourism industry and I am always keen to scout out new businesses in my area so that I can pass word onto tourists. When my wife mentioned the Driftwood Cottage, I thought this would at least be a wonderful opportunity to visit Branch again. I wasn’t prepared for such a quaint and pleasing place to stay.

We were overwhelmed with the care and attention to detail with this newly restored two bedroom house. To say John and Mike “nailed it” would be an understatement. They painted over the new renovations of the old family home with some fun colours, added fine decor and extremely comfortable beds! They paid close attention to major features like all new appliances; minor details like sand buckets for children, board games and a varied collection of reading material. Being provided with fresh eggs and bread in the morning was a bonus treat!

If you want something remote, special and cheery, even when the weather draws you inside with a book, then take the trip. Come visit the Cape Shore and make the Driftwood Cottage your holiday home!

I got sick and missed this stop, but my partner stayed and provided this review:

If you’re looking for a quiet spot, this is it. The accommodations were spacious, homey and spotless. John and Mike provisioned the kitchen with eggs, bread, jam, margarine and milk to make sure you could get a start on the day. The cottage is in the middle of a small village and off-the-beaten path. It's deck overlooks the village wharf and bay. Though the wharf has seen busier days, I spent the good part of a pleasant morning watching a fishing boat unload its cod catch. There’s a small grocery store, restaurant, gas station and post office just a few steps away. Though there aren’t walking “dedicated paths,” by asking around I discovered some pleasant walks along country roads. Cell reception is not good, but - again by asking around - found that you can get it reliably by walking up to the church. St. Mary’s Ecological Reserve is less than 1/2 hour drive.

This cozy cottage is all that you want in a small fishing village getaway! Super close and convenient to the local attractions: Cape St. Mary's Ecological Reserve is beautiful! Well stocked kitchen, living area, bathroom, and bedroom. Friendly hosts left us fresh baked bread and eggs for breakfast, lots of filtered water, and tea and coffee selections. Living area was equipped with a easy to use television, books, games, and tourist information station! There was ample bedding, clean towels and even robes! Literally steps away from the rocky waterfront and wharf!

A fabulous cottage with a great view of, and only steps away from the ocean. We spent two weeks there using it as a home base for one and one-half to two hour daily destinations. The cottage was cozy and comfortable. The people were friendly and welcoming. The Loft restaurant, across the street, provided simple, tasty pub fare. Mike and John gave up farm-fresh eggs and bread. They also had a bbq which we used extensively. While we wouldn't stay as long, we would return and stay again. It was a beautiful small town environment, a perfect place to slow down and enjoy the best of the simple things in life.

We stayed here on our way to Cape St Mary's which is just a few minutes away. The cottage was delightful, clean, well furnished and very comfortable. The town of Branch is interesting. We were able to watch a fish boat and a crab boat come in and unload at the dock right across the street. There is a restaurant but it might be better to cook at the cottage.
