The homestay is a short walk from the ferry, down the historic Beach Street. We only had light bags so we walked but there are cheap taxis available too. The property was well maintained and had a beautifully lush garden. The view from the upper deck was amazing and if we were morning people we would have enjoyed the sunrise from the deck. The room was clean, airy, peaceful, light, cosy and comfortable. There was a ceiling fan and an aircon for those balmy summer nights. We slept very comfortably. It was quiet and relaxing and was exactly what we needed. John and Marilyn were incredibly gracious hosts and made sure our short stay here was as comfortable as possible. They invited us to have Xmas drinks with them, and we had a great time chatting with them. We got to know a lot about the local community and the amazing people of Levuka and Fiji. Breakfast was included with the tariff and the spread by Marilyn was one of the best I have come across in a homestay. She cooked/baked almost everything herself including banana pancakes, coconut and mango bread, chilli and apple relish, passion fruit and lemon butter, banana and rum jam. The fresh mixed fruit smoothie just made our day. There was also cooked breakfast, toasts, variety of fresh local fruits, teas and home brewed coffee. For dinner there were a couple of options in town and we went with Kim’s Chinese restaurant. Unfortunately we only had one day here but our stay at Levuka Homestay made us feel that we have to come back with more time at hand and we definitely will. Thanks John and Marilyn, happy new year and all the best!…
I stayed here with friends for a weekend, and could not have asked for more. The breakfast was the best I have ever had, the rooms were clean and comfy and John and Marilyn were the perfect hosts, thank you :) I could it recommend highly enough
My wife and I have visited 9 countries in the South Pacific and this is up with the very best places to stay irrespective of price. For value it is in a league of its own. John and Marilyn are superb hosts and a glass of wine (or three) on their terrace was a travel highlight. The rooms are beautifully designed and built. Levuka itself is old style Pacific with lots of history and interest. It is the friendliest place you are ever likely to visit. Everyone greets you with Bula and if you stay any length of time you will have more friends here than you do at home. Thank you John and Marilyn! Also Nox for showing us around.
We stayed at Levuka Homestay in October 2019. Levuka itself is fascinating enough with its off-the-beaten-track feel but this stay made it all the more pleasant. The hosts, made the arrangements for us to be picked up by taxi from the ferry. Everything was smooth and quick. Our driver was waiting for us as planned. When we arrived we were greeted by the hosts John and Marilyn and treated to an elaborate and delicious breakfast. This was especially important to us since otherwise we would not have been able to experience Marilyn and John’s breakfast at all, as we were departing very early in the morning. We only had one day in Levuka so we were very happy that the hosts arranged a local tour of the town for us which was definitely worth taking. In the evening they offered to have us join them and their friends for dinner at a local restaurant which was a fantastic experience. By far, these were the nicest hosts we encountered during our 3 month long trip and we highly recommend staying at Levuka Homestay.…
John and Marilyn are the best hosts. The rooms are lovely and clean , serviced each day and new flowers in each room . It’s the little touches that make it. They would both be very helpful with information about Levuka and Fiji. The breakfasts are the best ever, you don’t need lunch. It was nice having a drink with them on their deck at night and taking in the view. Just book Levuka Homestay you won’t be disappointed.
John and Marilyn are the epitomy of hospitality and live up their title of homestay - guests are treated as if they were part of family. They are knowledgeable about Fiji and Levuka in general and were amazing hosts. They have the knack of knowing when to advise and when to leave guests to their own plans - they were also very patient with our children and made our stay in Levuka very memorable. We only spent 2 nights and am envious of those who manage to spend weeks at the oasis that is Levuka Homestay.
We stayed with John and Marilyn for 4 weeks while we did our medical elective at the Levuka hospital, and we had one of the happiest and most enjoyable months of our lives. John and Marilyn are such warm and wonderful people, they really couldn't do enough for us, no ask was too much. Throughout the stay we felt so looked after by them and their welcome made settling in so easy. Very quickly we felt 100% relaxed and at home, and getting to know them and sharing in their amazing local knowledge and good humour made it a really special place to stay. They really were the most amazing and kind hosts, we miss them! And as per below reviews - the breakfasts are absolutely legendary. No one has exaggerated - best breakfast I have had in Fiji by a mile, completely delicious and varying with what's in season. The homestay itself is absolutely beautiful - everything is really comfortable and kept to an exceptionally high standard, and the attention to detail is outstanding. The staff, Wilma, Matilda and Nox, are so attentive and friendly and really took the time to get to know us - they also keep the rooms impeccable and again, they can't do enough to make you feel at home and looked after. Proper Fijian hospitality at it's best. And what can we say about wonderful Levuka. The people here are some of the friendliest, warmest and wonderful people we have ever had the pleasure to come across, and they are so proud of their interesting and historic town. This is so so much more than your standard beach town in Fiji - the culture here is so rich and just lovely to be a part of. After just a week we couldn't walk down the street without multiple 'Bula Vuniwai!' (Hi Doc!) greetings! Walk around slowly, take in the interesting buildings and just enjoy chatting to people - it's great fun and the best way to experience real Fiji. If you can, come for more than a couple of nights and enjoy exploring/hearing all about Levuka and Fijian life from John and Marilyn on the balcony in the evenings over a glass of wine - we did this pretty much every evening, it was one of the nicest parts of our day and we never felt like we were intruding. Special place and fabulous accommodation - come to Levuka! We sincerely hope we will be back!…
Marilyn and John treated me like family in their beautiful home in the historic town Levuka. The breakfast was copious and delicious and every evening I joined the couple for a glas of wine on their vast terrace on top of everything. They are living ion Ovalau Island permanetly since a long time and are a treasure trove of Information on all things Fiji. My room was cosy, tastefully furnished and quiet with my own little terrace in front.
We had the pleasure of staying at The Homestay when we recently visited Levuka and what a fabulous experience it was. Our hosts John and Marilyn welcomed us to their home and could not have been more hospitable. The location is perfect... set in lush green surroundings only a short stroll to town. Our room was tastefully decorated Fijian style with a little balcony to sit at to enjoy the surroundings. In the evenings we met with our hosts on the top balcony to enjoy drinks and chat. Both John and Marilyn are a wealth of information on Fiji, it’s history and the Fijian culture. They also have good knowledge of Levuka and the surroundings, with plenty of tips on what to do and where to go during our stay. The highlight of our time at the Homestay would have to be the delicious never ending breakfast prepared by Marilyn with so many home made treats and local fruits to enjoy served in their gorgeous dining area. A true jewel to visit in Levuka.... the old capital of Fiji on the island of Ovalau. A big Vinaka Vakalevu to Matilda Knox and Wilma who also ensured we had a memorable visit! Thank you again John and Marilyn.... we thoroughly recommend your gorgeous home and can guarantee we will be back again to visit! Sota tale xxx…
Jakub and I arrived in the Levuka Homestay after a 12 minutes flight from Suva. We were picked from the little airport by Johnny and driven to Levuka. Johnny was telling us about the surroundings all way long so we have learned quite a bit. At the Homestay, John and Marilyn greeted us warmly and we felt like home in an instant. They served us a delicious breakfast. The room was very clean and everywhere you could see their delightful attention to detail. The finishing touches in the form of fresh flowers and all kind of shells make you feel, you were in the tropical paradise. After a walk through the historic town of Levuka we were invited to the upper terrace were we enjoyed chat with our hosts while drinking wine and beer and admiring beautiful views. We could not ask for more to complete our trip to Fiji. John and Marilyn are very knowledgeable and offered us plenty of good advise regarding places to eat and what to do.…
