I spent a couple of days at the JW Marriott for a wedding in October. The view, food and service were absolutely incredible. Everyone at the wedding had an amazing time. I highly recommend the JW Marriott for a lovely getaway in cottage country!

I have stayed at a few jw Marriott hotels and the never let you down. Food was good , drinks were fantastic and service was on par. All questions were answered and recommendations made when needed. Definitely a must to stay a few nights if you are in the area. Pool area was under some work while we were there but we were still able to use it with no issues. Will definitely return in the future

Location: A very scenic location. This is a big part of what you are paying for. Depending on which room you have though you will either face the lake or on the opposite side, the parking lot. The grounds are sufficiently large. There is a ring road around the property and a few basic paths to bike or walk. The hotel is at the top of the hill and it is a walk down to the water front and beach. Dining: We tried dining in all variations. Eat in, room service, and pickup along with trying the more premium restaurants. Service is reasonably good everywhere but better at the fine dining where you pay more for it. We had one easy request in Cottages restaurant that was rebuffed which indicates that it falls short in excellence. At the Ritz it would have been a yes and then some. One can also see examples of short staffing as food on the patio was left to attract sea gulls. Beware of lots of hornets on the patio - so much so that you can barely eat. Food quality and preparation was generally good. We liked Teca the Italian restaurant and would recommend the lobster ravioli and mushroom risotto. Activities: Typically they have a few varied inside and outdoor programs throughout the day but they are largely curtailed due to lack of staff or season change. For example bikes are available after a waiver, but they are in terrible condition and the tour was cancelled in favour of do it yourself. The canoes and kayaks were available sometimes but not always if they thought the water was to cold day to day and completely shut down by October 1. Without any activities, all there would be is a room and a view. Not that attractive of a value considering the price you pay. Room: Good quality bed and sheets. The room was reasonably clean and furniture was in good condition. The room comes with Netflix and a safe. Our room had a small kitchen area with a microwave, fridge, and dishes plus some small appliances. Checkin and out: Generally fine depending on who you get. Note that they charge a resort fee and a local tourist tax which they say is mandatory. Typically a tourist levy is not mandatory by statute and can be declined. Noise: The fatal flaw for a premium hotel is excessive noise. Yes people want to have a good time but some also want to sleep or relax at some point too. Unlike other premium hotels that are built like a vault or have staff control over noise, the very casual construction of this place allows noise quite freely through doors, walls and windows. If you really like quiet don’t come here. Pray you have considerate neighbours if you see an adjoining door. Recycling: NONE. Absolutely no recycling for your room. Still using little plastic bottles for the bathroom. It’s a climate emergency. JW let’s not be so lazy. I’m sure your guests are willing to do their small share if you give them the option. Overall. A place still striving for premium status but it is not yet there.

My spouse and I spent 2 nights at this resort in a King Studio with balcony and lake view. While the view was lovely and place peacefully quiet, our overall experience left much to be desired - so much so that I am rethinking my relationship with this brand. The literature says "rustic," but we say "shabby" is a better description. Some deficiencies that stick out: Room: - had to have someone come and fix the fireplace - no robes provided - no shampoo provided - no face cloths provided - freezer compartment was frosted over - there was a greasy film on the windows - there were weeds growing on the balcony including fully bloomed goldenrod - there were some greasy plates in the cupboard - no tea towels were provided Pool - locks on lockers did not work as per instructions - many were locked even though there was no one in the pool - barrier free shower did not have hot water - one shower was out of order - many pool tiles missing or chipped - the pool deck was gritty - the ELECTRICAL switch for the jets in the hot tub was electrical-taped in place - did NOT seem safe - pool was under heated for the weather - only harsh aromatherapy products were provided in the shower "Complimentary" Laundry - the laundry room on our floor was out of order All these little oversights made us wonder about how thorough the extra "covid cleaning" was and how safe the stay actually was. We had room service twice and one meal on the Cottages' patio. The menu was small and not particularly exciting but the food on each occasion was very good - most noteworthy was the prime rib sandwich. Room service was very good however on day one we were missing extras like jams/sugar/salt&pepper/etc. We did receive full service the second day. As far as accessibility goes, this place is a challenge. The resort is on a hill with 162 steps down to the beach. One beach has steps down to it from the road and reaching the other beach would be a challenge for any wheel chair user. Virtually all outdoor seating is the iconic, uncomfortable and difficult to get out of "Muskoka Chair." The pool and hot tub are not accessible (no zero entry.) The balconies are a step up out of the room. They do have "accessible" units though - not sure if they feature an accessible balcony. This hotel was very understaffed for the number of guests that were there however, when we did track staff down they were very helpful; especially the shuttle driver and the wait staff. Management bears the responsibility for the poor service - the staff were doing the best they could. Looking back at the reviews it seems that these issues have been known to management for some time. While I appreciate the challenges faced by the travel industry during covid I have to ask if this hotel should even be operating if they can't deliver the "5 star" service that we paid for. I felt that this stay was very poor value overall. A final note: all the balcony rooms are directly over the patio dining/pool/seating area. It was nice and quiet in September but we expect that in summer it would be deafening with partiers and motorized watercraft.
