We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite in the 2nd building for a week, in room 1109 on the main floor. The room is on the northeast corner of the building, closest to the river and Riverway Heritage pathway. It’s possible to see the river, but I wouldn’t say it has a ‘view’ (higher floors probably do).The room was quiet, we seldom heard noise from the floor above or neighbouring rooms. The hotel is close to town and easy to cycle from as a starting point. Comfortable king bed. Due to COVID we put stuff to be taken away outside the door (towels & garbage), and it was replaced with what we needed in a bag outside the door. Also due to the pandemic, no individual toiletries, but there were large dispensers near the sink and on the tub wall. Our requests for clean towels, or more paper towels were handled satisfactorily. The liquid dish soap was minimal, but just enough for our length of stay; there was also a dishwasher. The little coffee maker in the room made great coffee, we just had to get more pods in the lobby each day. It was nice to have apples or snacks, and coffee/tea in the lobby (as well as coffee cream we could replenish for the room). It was handy to have a washer & dryer. It seems all rooms in this building have a balcony with a small table and 2 chairs. This building has its own indoor hot tub. Central location for the Comox Valley.

After many years of staying at another property in Courtenay, Old House Hotel was recommended to us. Wish we’d taken the advice sooner !! As soon as you walk into the lobby there is a free coffee bar & cookies in the lobby after 3pm. We were upgraded to a suite and wow just wow !! Beautifully furnished loft suite with king bed, jacuzzi tub and shower with rainfall & jets. Lots of amenities including in suite washer & dryer. Kitchen has enough dishes and full size fridge, stove, dishwasher to make your own meals. Sadly the restaurant isn’t open weekday mornings for breakfast but next time we’re here and yes oh yes there will be a next time we’ll have dinner at the much talked about Locals Restaurant. Thank you Old House our first stay was perfect !!

Dear orcaland, Thank you, thank you, thank you! What a great review to read; shared it with our staff at our post-holiday gathering, and they loved it. Really appreciate all the personal comments and your taking the time as well. If you are looking for breakfast options, Thrifty's is great for stocking your kitchen; Starbucks is across the street and the highly acclaimed breakfast-only Hen and Hog Cafe is just two blocks away. If short on time, fruit and hot beverages await in the lobby! Pretty sure you'll love our partner Locals Restaurant for lunch or dinner! We look forward to your return, Warm regards, David

It is a bit challenging to find nice accommodations that allow pets, especially a 4 1/2 year old puppy!

We were welcomed, literally with open arms, as the front desk staff asked me to take him in to say. This was lovely. And, of course Copper is adorable, so he felt great as well.

The room was great with very little carpet to be concerned about in case of an "accident."

The restaurant is wonderful and the staff, service and food are exceptional. It's worth the trip for that alone.

It was a nice surprise to discover the pool and hot tub (which I love) were open and with only 12 people permitted at one time due to Covid 19.

I highly recommend this hotel for couples, families, a longer term stay, or for just a break.

We haven't utilized the spa facilities yet, so that will be on our fourth visit.

We had a lovely stay at Old House. The staff are all very friendly and helpful.

We had a riverside studio suite on the 3rd floor with vaulted ceiling and it was lovely. We had a partial view of the river and looked out onto the pool and hot tub. The pool and hot tub were both open but they advise phoning the desk as they do limit the number of guests who are able the access the pool area at any one time. The fitness facility on the parking level also has a limit of 1 guest and you must get a key from the front desk to access the facility.

The room was lovely. It was very spacious. We had a sofa that we could sit on while watching tv in front of the fireplace. The beds are comfortable and bathrobes are supplied. It was nice that you could pick up the newspaper in the front lobby and there was no charge to use the laundry facilities in the basement. The room also had a balcony. It was my husband’s favorite accommodation during our staycation.

There is some parking confusion at the entrance for checking in. What appears to be a roundabout at the entrance has no centre island. So some guests are parking end to end, while others are parking noise first. The caused us to be pinned in by someone who parked straight in. We waited around 15 minutes until this guest finally moved their vehicle. There was no attempt by the hotel staff to redirect or correct the parking issues. Originally I marked to up as discourteous driver that knowing blocked us in, but the next morning we witnessed the same issue to the right of the entrance guests were parking end to end, but the left the entrance guest were parking nose first, blocking all the other cars. Simply installing a centrepiece, or drawing lines would quickly and easily solve this frustrating check-in process.
Our room was large and clean. The bed, pillows and bedding were better than expected. No bathtub and shower pressure was very weak. The small kitchenette was missing some basic items. The elevator is loud and clunky, more like a service elevator. The pool is very small. Too small to actually swimming, or do laps. It's more of a plunge pool.
All in all, I would classify this more as an upscale motel, not hotel level quality.

Dear mark123456790- Thanks so very much for taking the time to review your stay with us. I deeply apologize for the difficulty you had parking at the front of the hotel. Given that we are experiencing maximum occupancy levels, check-in can be a busy time. We will review your ideas and the challenges you experienced. Given the covid times we are experiencing and as per Health Authority and industry guidelines, we are limiting utensils ( to avoid excess handling ). Our front desk team is instructed to tell all guests that anything else they require will gladly be delivered to their suite... flatware, dinnerware etc. If you did not receive this instruction, I deeply apologize. I am sorry you found our outdoor pool small for your liking. Yes, it was meant for casual swimming and not really for laps. Our lap pool nearby is closed due to covid restrictions as well. I was happy to read that you found the beds comfortable. We do thank you for trusting us and for choosing us as your home-away-from-home! Kind regards, David

My husband uses a power wheelchair and our suite was fully accessible, including a roll-in shower. The grounds were also accessible. Our only complaint was that there was no lift for the pool or hot tubs so my husband could not fully enjoy all that there was to offer. The hotel and grounds were clean and the staff was friendly and welcoming. We were pleased that there were many restaurants and shops within walking distance.

We went up for a weekend after receiving an email about the great "Reconnect Rate" that was advertised. The people working were very helpful and clear on the changes to the protocols. They seemed well informed of their own policies and this showed in the ability to answer questions. Enjoyed a nice meal at Locals next door which made for a great first getaway in months.

My husband and I stayed here for our first getaway away from our two toddlers. We were hoping for a quiet sleep in, but unfortunately a family was placed in the room above us and at 6am we were unpleasantly woken up by loud thumping and footsteps thudding back and forth. This continued for three hours ensuring we did not get a sound sleep in. I would have said something but by the time the noise is an issue and had woken us up, it's a little too late to remedy. I think it was poor choice to situate a young family above quiet adults. It would have been nice if the pillows came in two sizes, they were so big and puffy it felt like I was drowning in them. A couple options in room would be nice rather then having to ask for something else. The pleather furniture was looking a bit worn, some parts were peeling off. We were eager to use the hottub and pool, but were informed it would be busy until 9pm until minors were no longer allowed. We waited until 9, went down to the pool/hottub and were disappointed that minors were still in the hottub/pool until nearly 940. Hotel staff never requested them to leave, the family finally just left on their own accord. It definitely felt awkward shivering in the pool waiting for our hottub turn when we were assured this was an adults only swim time. I didn't want to be "that" person leaving to complain that the kids weren't asked to leave yet so we just waited. Overall it felt like this hotel catered to families well, and that for a couples getaway we did feel a bit out of place and did not get the quiet restful night away we were hoping for. I would stay here again with our kids maybe, but would probably not pick this for a couples retreat again especially for the price. Our favourite part was the lobby with the complimentary espresso drinks and cookies. It was a wonderful addition that definitely was the highlight of our underwhelming stay.

Came to Courtenay on a business trip and stay at this hotel because this is where we were having our sessions in one of their conference rooms.

First, the staff was absolutely perfect. Very helpful, good advice and always available.
Not only were we welcomed by extremely nice people, the delightful smell coming from the fancy coffee machine at the entrance was the promise of nice mornings.
The coffee machine offers all kinds of coffees including cappuccinos, mochaccinos, lattes and hot chocolates.... all for free!!!

The rooms were extremely comfortable and had everything you need to enjoy your stay and even little extras that make a difference such as heated bathroom floor - creamers in the fridge - nice and thick bathrobes - big soaker tub.
The hotel also has heated pool and hot tub outside, a spa and a restaurant (which apparently is the best in town).
There is also a nice paved trail behind for those who like to go for a walk.

All in all, we had a very good stay in Courtenay and we will definitely come back to this hotel the next time we come here.

The bathroom has one switch for the light AND the fan. We get two switches at home and most bathrooms. So the breeze while bathing was nice (sarcastic tone).
Other guests not adhering to elevator rules posted right on the elevator door. One family or person AT A TIME. We took it 4 times and had other guests in elevator with us 3 out of 4 of them :(
Outdoor pool hours boast an "Adult time" from 9-11pm. 15YO is the age cut off. My 15 YO is in grade 9. I don't see students STILL IN HIGHSCHOOL as Adults, I see teenagers. So after waiting for the 2 families that took up the pool together for 2 hours before 9pm and seeing them still there after 920pm I called front desk to inquire (12 people max at one time on pool deck). The front desk let me know that 15 was the age limit and that they were over this age so they are allowed to stay. So an Adult age limit is 15 to this property? Great so if we go down we get to see grade 9 10 11 and 12s while there during "Adult hours". After having to stay away all other hours because the family's inundate it all other times of the day.
We r leaving the property and have to take the elevator down to the parking garage to get to our truck. The 6 recycle bins are overflowing as well as the garbage bin. As you walk out the door from the elevator into the garage, all you smell is garbage. It's the weekend and they have it full to the brim with garbage for their guests to smell. For the $250 that was spent it hardly seemed to fit the bill.

Responded 22 June 2021
Dear Julie L, Thanks so very much for bringing your concerns to our attention here and on your survey response. I am sharing the response we sent to you privately here. Your feedback is critical to our operational team and as such we surely want to address your concerns. We apologize for any confusion regarding an adult swim. A 15-year-old is not an adult and should not have been in the pool. Our manager has informed the front desk team of this issue and reinforced this policy. We take our garbage removal seriously and regret that the bins were so full during your stay. Garbage day is Friday, recycling is Tuesday. During this pandemic, our guests are eating in far more than in years past and could account for the excess you saw on a sold-out week. I will review the records to see if for some reason the Friday pick-up was missed or if we had any maintenance projects that produced more waste. We will do our best to ensure they are packed to capacity. We are very sorry your bath was not comfortable. I will ask our maintenance team to inspect the fan and air flow. Currently the occupancy limits in our elevators have been lifted in conjunction with the Phase 2 Restart Plan guidelines issued by the BC Health Authority. Previously we did kindly ask our guests to observe occupancy limits. Given our two buildings, we did rely on signage and other guests to kindly ask others to wait given safety concerns. Thanks for choosing us as your safe home away from home. Again we thank you for the review. We look forward to the possibility of welcoming you back again soon and regaining your trust. Have a happy, healthy summer. Kind regards, Lisa

We have stayed at the the hotel twice in the past two years. Once in a two bedroom suite with a fold down couch in the living room. That trip we travelled with my daughter and daughter-in-law with two little ones. It was great. Last summer we stayed for a long weekend in a one bedroom suite. Both suites overlooked the pool and were very nice. The kitchens are well organized and basic cutlery, glassware and dishes supplied. Staff is exceptionally nice and easy to talk to. We have never stayed in the annex. The restaurant is excellent.

Absolutely! They have beautiful one bedroom suites that accommodate dogs. You are allowed up to two dogs and I believe the additional fee is $20. It's a great area for dog-walks. Lots of places to 'water' your dogs in addition to the beautiful dyke that is at your door step.
