our first experience of this hotel was the lift breaking down and being marooned for an hour!!!! our condo had two bedrooms but only one with ensuite, for two couples it would have been better to have two ensuites. The view was nice from the balcony over looking the slope.
It is not genuinely ski out as there is climb to the hill or a precarious ski over tree routes. As has been said elsewhere the room was devoid of comforts that help self catering, we usually find salt and pepper, herbs and oil to help, here there was nothing, even not the usually things that help between cleans, like enough dishwasher tablets, washing powder and shower gel or shampoo. There is rarely anyone in reception leaving the impression that the lodging is quite deserted.
if skiing, remember to bring a ski lock as these help ski security in the ski locker room, many residents have secured theirs so that there were not enough places for our skis. our room has ski boot dryers, and a hot tub, enough space for us all, and we were quite comfortable.

Very mixed views about the Palliser Lodge.

It is positioned ideally for much of the activities Golden has to offer (hiking, mountain biking, the bear refuge, rafting, the skybridge to name a few.) The resort itself offering much of these on the doorstep. As a place to rest after a day of busy and thrilling activities, it really is ideal.

During the summer, it is reasonably priced.

However, there is a sense of lack of care for the smaller details that let it down and it very much felt like a ghost town (in summer at least). So many small, on their own minor things, that alone would be easily overlooked. But, together add up to a less satisfactory stay without crossing the line into being poor or unacceptable. Just so so!

While the bed was huge, the bedding clean and crisp and the mattress extremely comfortable. While toiletries were well presented and welcoming. While the small kitchen area included washing up liquid, can openers, plates, glasses and so forth... Other things just seemed old or tired or simply forgotten about. Or just not thought through.

Expect wonky drawers that don't closer properly, blinds that are a escape-room-level challenge to just pull up nevermind keep up, plaster that's been repatched but the painting over forgotten about, a coffee maker with filters and coffee provided, just nobody has bothered to clean it. Sinks with no plugs (luckily the bath still has its own), a balcony with two chairs just no table, inside a random dining chair with no workstation to sit at, and just to really top it all, a dvd player - welcome back the year 2000! It's all just a little odd!

Check-in takes place in the nearby Glacier Lodge which has a warm, welcoming, spacious lobby and reminds you of what things could be like, if someone actually could be bothered. I wonder if their rooms have plugs for sinks too? Or if they've upgraded to Blu-ray? (Note: a quick TripAdvidor hunt shows a similar fate to the rooms of Glacier Lodge) Palliser Lodge's lobby still exists, but only, like everything else, as a reminder that time has abandoned the place.

If all you need is a fairly priced, no frills base to sleep full of quirks and tired fixtures and fittings, you'll be more than happy. Adventure awaits around every corner and for many that is more than enough. For anyone who is looking for a stay somewhere that is well maintained and has a sense of care for the smaller details, perhaps try elsewhere.

In short the Palliser Lodge is comfortable but needs a little TLC to bring it back up to what it could be. If you're happy to keep your expectations low, then you're good to go.

Thank you for your detailed feedback! We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed the ideal location of Palliser Lodge for all the activities Golden has to offer, as well as the comfort of the bed and the amenities in the kitchen. The beginning of my stay here was a bit of a disaster, going from one room to the next without either of them being housekept. After finding the first one to be better After all, the younger maintenance guy on duty fixed the place up and we were all set. Management made it right the next day and the room itself, a generous suite was well appointed and convenient. A huge deck with a stunning view over the valley made it worth enduring.

Had the potential to be an amazing stay if the housekeeping staff had decided to show up some day. Hope that side of things improves

The quality of the hotel was very poor.  The room was not well maintained and not particularly clean.  The room was dusty, the glasses/plates etc were not clean, there was a screen door lying on the balcony floor, a missing window blind, a shower door that wouldn't close leading to water ending up on the floor, a fireplace that wouldn't turn on, Christmas lights on the balcony that were hanging down broken.  The room key cards were deactivated a couple of times during our stay which wasn't ideal considering that the reception wasn't open and we needed to go to the Glacier Lodge to have them reactivated.  There was also supposed to be a 10pm quiet time rule but there was a loud party with people playing drums and singing on the Saturday night until the early hours of the morning which kept waking our kids up and nobody did anything to enforce the quiet time rule.

For the amount we paid to stay here I would have expected a similar quality to the other Bellstar hotels that we've stayed at (Solara, Grand Rockies, Royal Kelowna).  Quiet honestly we could have stayed in any number of the chain hotels in Golden for less than half the price, which also wouldn't have had a resort fee and would have been better quality and value.

I will say that the staff were very friendly and a pleasure to deal with but all of the negatives that we experienced made it difficult to enjoy our stay and ruined the end of our family vacation. We were offered 40% off a future trip specifically to the two Kicking Horse Resort Bellstar hotels but there's no way I would stay there again.

We really enjoyed our stay here! The room was a good size and had a nice little kitchenette with a microwave, bar sink and mini fridge as well as a coffee maker and a kettle. A huge plus was the heated bathroom floor. the hotel grounds are beautiful although it was not open for skiing while we were there so we did not hit the slopes. We did however visit the nearby Nordic center, the staff at both were extremely friendly and helpful and really made us feel at home. The cross country skiing was fantastic and affordable. the staff at the hotel was extremely responsive and helpful with any questions we had and we would definitely recommend staying here. The mountain views from my room were gorgeous!!

We are currently staying at the Palliser Lodge at KickingHorse Resort and I can’t even wait to leave to write a review. We are staying in a two bedroom suite with a hot tub in room 307. I don’t usually write reviews but when you spend this much money I can’t help but stop someone else from being this disappointed. The only amazing thing about this room is the view of the mountain while sitting in the hot tub. Absolutely breathtaking. It all ends there. From the kitchen pans being unusable because they are disgusting, stained mugs, broken toaster, utensils falling apart while using them to sink drains clogged, it’s all around terrible. I’m not topically a picky person but too much grossness is enough to write a review. Badly stained couches (we fit for the two single, cleaner couches to sit), huge cracks in lamp shade, holes in blankets that smell like they haven’t been washed in months. The list goes on…Also don’t walk barefoot in this suite you’ll have black feet by the end of the day. Lots needs to be updated in this suite to reflect the price. Pictures online don’t reflect what you will encounter. Also the ice maker in the garage was out of order (fridges in suite don’t make ice), and bike storage was not available for whatever reason. For the beauty of this resort setting the rental suites should reflect the same. The prices should also reflect the quality of the room.

This place was fantastic. Stayed 2 nights since it was the low season. Nothing else was open on the mountain until late May, so be prepared to bring your own food, or drive 13 kms down the mountain. This place was so spacious. Lots of storage, washer and dryer, dishwasher and heated floors in the bathroom. No air-conditioning but did have a fan. Beautiful views from our balcony. Will come again next year.

We had a relaxing few nights stay just before the Summer Season Opening of Kicking Horse. We just missed the re-opening of the Gondola and an opportunity to visit Boo the famous Grizzly by a couple of days but the Complex was otherwise fully functioning and quiet. Bliss. Rode that Gondola in Winter a few years ago and it was so enjoyable we hope to experience it in Summer one day.
Our spacious 1 Bedroom apartment was comfortable with large bedroom, bathroom, Lounge/Dining and an excellent kitchen. The scenic drive down to Golden should be about 20 minutes but the Black Bears were thick on the ground and were impossible to ignore. Respectfully. They were a highlight of our Kicking Horse visit. We’ve never seen so many Cubs. Often Three cubs with a surprisingly calm Mom. Apparently the Bears are no deterrent to Walkers and Cyclists either. An adrenalin hit.
Golden has several big Grocery Stores so we bought groceries and happily ate in after busy days of sightseeing. Also a wealth of Restaurants and Fast Food Chains too. Twilight made sitting out on the wide rear deck the perfect lazy end to amazing but long days.
The safe basement carpark with Elevator access to all levels was excellent too.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom suite with a hot tub on the balcony. The room was spacious, had everything you needed, but run down. Unfortunately, there's no A/C so it did get quite warm. One fan was broken too. The hot tub turned my dark green swimsuit to a sage colour. The balcony was quite dirty (food spilt from a previous guest). Underground parking was nice. Overall, I don't think we'd stay again, more cons than pros.

We stayed at the Palliser Lodge 2 bed 2 bath with the hot tub on the balcony. What a fantastic ski trip. The condo was well equipped, spacious and for the most park in great shape. We used the hot tub every night, it’s not huge but it will fit 4 adults comfortably and worked as it should. This is ski in ski out lodging so no need to drive to the hill. Don’t listen to the Karen’s on the reviews, if you’re looking for a great ski holiday this won’t disappoint. My only suggestion would be to include extra towels for the hot tub.
