Detailed Reviews
My fiance and I had the pleasure at staying at the Joseph Lawrence House this weekend and can't rave enough about this charming bed and breakfast. It's beautifully furnished, immaculately clean, and spacious with large garden sitting areas and a private balcony off our room. Breakfast had something for everyone (quiche, yogurt and fruit, fresh croissants, lemon loaf and even brownies for those with a sweet tooth). I'm a bit of a coffee snob and this coffee didn't disappoint (freshly brewed and plentiful). The hostess was gracious and friendly. Thank you so much. You are our new favourite place to stay in Collingwood.

I am a weary traveller of 30 years on the road. I had the opportunity of staying with Janet and Darrell Reeder in their exquisite B&B. If passion and purpose of the proprietors were the measurement for chosing one B&B from another I have no hesitation in stating that Joseph Lawrence House is No 1 on any travellers list of Collingwood locations.
Whilst the house if it could speak clearly has a few tales to tell, the attention to detail for the weary traveller is the highest quality and very peaceful. Janet and Darrell provide you the personal space you need, invisible or quite interactive, your choice to engage them. I would recommend with no hesitation Joseph Lawrence House. Well Done - Janet and Darrell.

My family and I stayed at Joseph Lawrence House. We stayed in the two bedroom apartment, lots of room, washer & dryer and a fully equipped kitchen. The breakfasts were delicious. Pat is wonderful hostess.

We spent a weekend there with another couple. The rooms were very nice. So was breakfast. Sadly, our hosts were not. Omnipresent and overly chatty, they never for a moment let us forget that we were in THEIR house. After scolding us repeatedly for not listening carefully to instructions on how to use the door lock, they told us they had to leave by 10:30 on Sunday morning to go out of town, so we would have to check out early. On Saturday morning at breakfast, after the host pulled up a chair uninvited at our table and proceeded to talk at us about his accomplishments in numerous fields of expertise, he told us that in fact, we would have to leave by 9:30 on Sunday morning. Considering we were to move clocks ahead by one hour that night, it was more like having us leave by 8:30. When we returned from skiing in the middle of the afternoon, there was only enough (lukewarm) water for one shower. After that, it was cold showers for everyone. The hosts first blamed it on the town, then suggested it was unusual for people to shower in the afternoon.
These people do not know the meaning of hospitality.

We just returned from a 3 night stay at Joseph Lawrence House. Our 4 couples were golfing for a few days and used it as our home base. Conveniently there were 4 bedrooms on the second floor so we had it all to ourselves.
Each room had its own bathroom which was a must for our group. All the rooms were large and had everything we needed.
The covered side veranda was a big hit with everyone as we relaxed there after golf. There was plenty of parking available. The location was ideal. We walked to restaurants down town in 15 minutes.
As for breakfast.. our hostess Pat provided a great diversity of fare. It varied by day from two kinds of quiche, crepes , variety of fresh fruit and great pastries. The chocolate croissants were especially good.
Pat was always available and provided everything we needed for a great stay. She has been the owner for a year and a half. ( I noticed there is 1 star rating from 2 years ago. This is before her tenure. I guarantee there will not be any such ratings under her ownership. )
We booked again for next year if that is any indication.

We stayed at this lovely B&B recently in the Sarah Room . Very comfortable room. We had a friendly welcome from Janet & Darrell. They were both extremely helpful in recommending restaurants and information on the area's Darrell is a mine of information and we had long chats about the history of the house and about the area. Such care was taken with the breakfasts too - really gourmet! The blueberry muffins were delicious and so light - Janet packed us up a couple for our lunch which was very thoughtful.
The house is really interesting and furnished with lots of antiques. Even though it is on a busy road you couldnt hear the traffic - it was very quiet. Also within easy reach of everything. The guest parlour was very comfortable too with TV, DVD, etc. There was also an antique organ/harmonium which I was allowed to play which was a delight.
We visited two of the recommended restaurants - Beaver & Bulldog and the Harbour Fish Bar. We love our food and we found these extremely good with quick service.
All in all, we really enjoyed our stay - thanks to Janet & Darrell. We would have no hesitation in recommending them.

You'd feel like you've known Darrell & Janet for a long time, even if it's just your first time at their B&B. Anything you need, they have something to offer or suggest and it always comes with a smile. Janet prepared a delightful fresh-cooked breakfast and Darrell, a walking 'Wikipedia', enlivened the conversation among us guests at the breakfast table. Our room and the rest of the house are well-furnished, spotless, and very elegant. If I may suggest, a TV in the room and a few extra electrical outlets would further enhance the experience for geeky-couples like us, who bring a ton of electronics whenever we leave home. A great relaxing stay nonetheless, courtesy of our fabulous hosts.

We had a great stay at the Joseph Lawrence House. Janet and Darrell were very helpful in suggesting places to visit and restaurants to enjoy - wonderful ambassadors for the Collingwood area. The house was beautiful, quiet and within walking distance to the downtown and local historic sites. Breakfast was beautifully presented and very delicious with fresh local ingredients. We would definately recommend this B&B for anyone visiting Collingwood and area.

My sister-in-law and I had a most relaxing stay at this beautifully appointed Victorian home. As the owner of a century property, I appreciated the time and effort that goes into the research and purchase of period light fixtures, furniture, glassware and decorating. The house is spotlessly clean and our room was extremely comfortable, including freshly ironed sheets on our beds!
Our hosts, Janet and Darrel, provided exceptional service and hospitality. It was delightful to have them both join us on the porch for a cup of tea and cookies after our arrival. Their pride in the town of Collingwood is evident in their participation with local groups, such as the horticultural and historical societies. In fact, a Victorian tea will be held at their home later in August. How fun!
Their recommendations for local eateries were insightful and accurate. We were particularly impressed when Darrel asked if our mother-in-law would like to join us for breakfast. It was a very thoughtful touch, as it gave us more time to enjoy her company. We were offered fresh fruit, home-baking and savoury eggs. Mom came with an appetite and ate every bite!
I plan to return soon with my husband so he can also enjoy the historical ambiance and stimulating conversation of our hosts.

Had the most amazing weekend at the Joseph Lawrence House. Our accommodations were lovely. We stayed in the loft. Pat made us feel so special. We were able to check in early, even though our rooms was not quite ready. When we returned later that evening all our belongings had been taken up to our room. The House was filled to capacity with the Elvis Festival being in town. Breakfasts both morning were so delicious. Can not say enough good this about the place. It was my first experience in a B&B and was great. Will definitely return. Pat and her helper Paul were both so gracious to us.
