Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were first shown a room that I’m sure had not been renovated since the 1970s including a tv I have not seen for almost 20 years! Not good. I went downstairs and said the room was not as pictured on any site and he said he had a renovated room. Okay! It is very small but very nice with a flat screen tv, nice bedding. Only no frig or hair dryer. You can get ice from the bar downstairs. Also only a desk chair to sit in. Not the best for a whole week like we are staying but we are visiting family and out and about so will be ok.

Quaint, clean, affordable accommodation in the heart of Steveston, the most interesting area of Richmond. Only steps away from several good restaurants, cafes and boats offering fresh fish for sale. The Hotel could use a few mechanical/ technical upgrades, but everything is still functional.

Steveston Hotel isn't posh, but you aren't paying for posh. It is like going home for a while. I always have the shared bathroom rooms, just like with my sharing with my sisters at home. The room has everything I need but nothing more. Looking at this price range this is the best you can do in the lower mainland. And Steveston alone makes it worth while, step outside and catch a filming day of the Bates Motel, or Once Upon a Time or some Movie or check it out in old movies and episodes of television series. Don't get a room over the pub if you want to get to sleep early, Karaoke night is especially tough! Still a fine find in the Vancouver area! Don't fill up the rooms, I will be going back!!

Great location in the very nice neighbourhood of Steveston. We have stayed on previous occasions and enjoyed the Steveston Hotel.

However, we stayed on a Saturday night (14 October 2023) and there was an appalling noise from the bar downstairs. Loud pulsating sounds until 2 am made sleep impossible. They offer earplugs (how many hotels provide earplugs on the bedside tables?!), but the noise is well beyond anything earplugs can do. We will never stay here again on a Friday or Saturday night.

Great spot- clean and no traffic noise. We could hear the Friday night band until 1:00 but it wasn't too bad and they did warn us! Rms reno'd and fresh. The breakfast Cafe was right there, fast and reasonable. The Buck and Ear pub is right downstairs and I picked up great food to eat in my room. Most important the hotel is right beside the long beautiful docks with all the gift shops, restaurants, boats rocking at the docks. The other direction is a 3 min walk to a Bea ch area where you can take your dog. Yippee! I will definitely come back!

Took my 2 daughters to Steveston on their Spring Break because we knew they would be filming the TV show Once Upon A Time. Booked a room at the Steveston Hotel because I knew it was right there on Moncton St where the show is taped.
The good: Free parking if staying at the hotel & if you're coming while the show is taping & streets are blocked off, you have parking nearby. Also, if you just need a close place to "Storybrooke" to sleep, you are right there. Can't get much closer. And the price is cheap.
The bad: This is definitely an old hotel. First thing I smelled walking in was an odor (smelled like body odor). I cracked the window to let fresh air in. Everything is older...bed spreads, TV set, etc. We stayed outside watching the cast film the show till 2am and when we went back into the hotel to go to sleep, we were freezing & could find no where to turn on the heat. So we all slept with our jackets on!
Overall, if I wanted a place to crash for a few hours after watching the Once TV taping, I may stay here because of location. But the smell is gross.

DO Not listen to the bad reviews, they are either not true, a belligerent client, or perhaps from way back in time.
We spent 5 nights at this hotel, having been to Steveston many times for a short visit, bt never indulging in the town except on the run. I specifically chose this hotel to be in this region of Richmond , and not on the Westminster Highway "strip" . There is a very good advertisement in the Vancouver promotional material for Capilano Bridge that states, (with a fabulous photo), "you didnt come here to go to a mall"
Well, that is why we chose the Steveston Hotel.
We live in the east and boat in 1000 islands area Ontario, and this hotel is the Richmond equivalent of the bed and breakfasts of Ganonoque or Brockville Ontario. Small, clean, a place to stay, and in the right place. It would be nice to include breakfast etc, but the restaurant downstairs has a reasonably priced menu, turnover is high, and therefore things are fresh and good.
The room is clean, and the bed is comfy, and that is all you need in this place because you come back to your room tired, and you just go to sleep.
Fair value, and in the perfect location to make you feel you have been to the coast.

I had not stayed in a high ceilinged old style hotel since I was a student and stayed at the Yates Hotel in Victoria. It was fun to relive the experience of staying in an old time hotel with grand window dressings, solid wooden furniture and a shared bath. As pointed out by previous reviewers, this hotel is old and thus I was also concerned about comfort/cleanliness...I worried needlessly. My hotel room was very clean and very secure. The bathroom had been re-done with new tile and bathroom fixtures. The room and linens were cleaner than some new high end hotels I have stayed in. Kudos to the housekeepers at this hotel...it is much more difficult to keep older places feeling clean!
The best part of my stay here was being in the heart of a fishing village that still has the small community feel. It is great to see the locals walking around their village and greeting each other by name and to feel included in this as they nod a greeting to you as well. It is easy to see why this was chosen as a set for the Storybrook series...not many places have retained that old community charm. It is amazing to me that this can exist just minutes from the moderns bustle of the big city.

I chose the Steveston Hotel for it's proximity to the Britania Heritage Shipyard and for the price - $64 for a single room with private bathroom, off-season. I was very pleasantly surprised - the location is excellent - right in the middle of the historic fishing village of Steveston, next door the the Gulf of Georgia Cannery - now a very interesting interactive museum of the salmon canning industry of days gone by. Another pleasant surprise was the Sunday morning market at the Cannery. The hotel room was very basic, but clean and amazingly quiet. The Buck 'N Ear bar had live music Friday and Saturday nights and was very busy, but I could not hear a sound from there in my room. The hotel seemed very safe.
The restaurant breakfast was great - and very busy on Saturday morning. I hope to return, to enjoy Steveston again.

For the Price probably the cleanest hotel in the greater Vancouver area. This is a gem with private bath. Our room had a double and a single. Very secure and quiet. The bus system works very good form a bus stop 1/2 block away. The bus will connect you with the new airport Canada Line train. Just under an hour to Vancouver city centre for $ 3.50. Old cafe style restaurant will provide with good breakfast. Locals seem to like to hang here. No elevator but only 2 levels. free parking. Steveston is a funky destination on it's own. About $28.00 by taxi from YVR Airport.
