We booked the Fairfax Arms as it had been recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. We were able to take our dog which was a bonus. The room was lovely and the food was fantastic. Lovely wood burning stove made the pub really cheerful. The staff were lovely and very helpful. All this with the Yorkshire Moors...

Thanks for your review, we have 2 rooms that we allow dogs in and we allow well behaved dogs into the bar area where there are two tables to eat at, however in the summer there is no better place than sat out the front next the stream in the sun, and that will be even better when the orangery...

Just returned from a visit to the Fairfax Arms and wanted to share the experience with anyone who is looking for a great place to visit. We arrived and were warmly welcomed, the room was spotless with all the usual facilities you would want. Our evening meals were excellent, the food, the beer, the staff and the service we received...

Stayed for 2 nights with our border collie in one of the courtyard rooms taking advantage ot the 2 for 1 seasonal offer which represented excellent value for money. The room was superb with the largest TV we have ever come across in a pub - I feel sure it could have been viewed from the top of Sutton Bank...

Thank you for your review. I agree that an orangery is a posh word for a conservatory that has oranges growing in it, should really be called a Mandarinary to give us wider scope of what we can grow from the mandarin family. We have a fantastic management team and similar staff down at the Fax. Apologises for your fish,...

Good food, great staff, charming venue. Went as a group of 7 to this lovely pub. The staff were great fun happy and enthusiastic. Prompt service. Fab food. Had the garlic mushrooms exquisite creamy deliciousness, followed by the burger. Burger wise would have been nicer a little rarer and a tad crispier on the onion rings but generally was lovely,...

I'm very pleased that you enjoyed your experience with us at The Fax. I have to admit that the garlic mushrooms are a favourite of mine! and what a good word deliciousness is to describe them! You should have been asked how you liked your steak cooking, i do apologise, will follow this up. We hope to see you again...

We spent a weekend staying at the Fairfax arms while we were visiting family in the area and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Most of the rooms are over the pub so expect some noise in the evenings until 11ish but it was quiet after that and the pub is a great place to eat and drink. James...

All our beds and matresses are hand made by Beaver Beds of Whitby, they really are fantastic, as is the quality of our local ingredients. We look forward to your return and promise that you will not be disappointed!

Six of us had a fine leisurely lunch here recently. The choice was extensive and everything we ordered from mussels as a starter to the roast beef as a main course and lemon tart as a dessert where all perfect. As the pub is close to Ampleforth College one is advised to book early for a very tasty Sunday lunch.

Booked for husbands birthday meal - just the 2 of us. Arrived at 6.10pm although table booked for 6.30pm. Lovely atmosphere & decor. Friendly & attentive bar staff. However, bench seat was too high for the table so very uncomfortable leaning down to the table to eat. The food service was very slow and after waiting 20 minutes for the...

Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that your experience wasn't up to our usual standards, we have since rectified the problem with the seat that you sat on, because of how busy we were we had to use extra chairs, hence the wrong size but we have now purchased more. I would like to apologise sincerely...

Attractive pub with accommodation. Our room was warm, with good facilities. Extensive and reasonably priced menu. Great breakfast. The staff were friendly and helpful. Perfect for our overnight stop. My sister had a room above the bar area which was rather noisy until the pub closed. Ours was at the back and was significantly quieter.

Thank you for your review of The Fairfax Arms. The room above the bar can be a little noisy on a Friday and Saturday night as this is the original part of the Inn built in the 15th century, by Thomas Fairfax who owned Gilling Castle just behind us, we do make sure the noise is kept to a minimum...
