Where do I start. The villas have so much potential but lack of maintenance, upkeep and care has destroyed the standard promised. So much was broken, worn out, unclean and shoddy. To make matters worse despite 3 phone calls to the after hours phone number provided , one to report an urgent issue, we received a recorded message promising an immediate call back but we never received that call. A power cut left us in total darkness for about 3 hours and nothing in the apartment, like a torch or candles to help us. We had torches on our phones which guided safely upstairs where we went to bed - not having eaten or showered due to the power outage. There were squashed bugs all over the walls. Not a pretty sight. The washing machine leaked. The cold tap had black water oozing out of the tap handle. The hot water was too hot and dangerous to children. The walls were scuffed and there were stains on the curtains and the kitchen blind. There was so much wrong with this place. I recommend Lucinda but not the apartments. We did register our concerns with the Reception the next morning but with little response. Not sure who manages the resort but it is not being managed well if at all. There were so many faults I haven’t listed them all but will attach some photos. I certainly used my Glen 20 whilst I was there.…
Last week we and another couple stayed in “house 3” at Hinchinbrook Resort. The location was fantastic for us as we had a boat that could be tied up at the pontoon, and Dungeness Creek is handy to the protected waters of Hinchinbrook Passage, or to the Great Barrier Reef and nearby islands. Having made the booking several months prior to our stay (taking a gamble that COVID restrictions would be eased), and after seeing pictures of the accommodation on the website, we believed we were going to stay in a well appointed, clean, comfortable and modern house. However, upon our arrival we discovered something very different! The accommodation sat unused and closed up for the duration of the COVID lockdown in Queensland and it was obvious that not much, if anything had been done to ensure that it was up to scratch prior to welcoming guests again now that restrictions have been eased. The things we found to be well below an acceptable standard was extensive, but here are some that were higher on our list: The leather lounge suite was fit for the rubbish tip! It was filthy, torn and mouldy, and needed to be covered before we were prepared to sit on it. Of the two master bedrooms, one was missing its door completely, and the other was in a state of disrepair. The beds in these rooms were so hard it was like spending a night in purgatory. The kitchen was poorly equipped. Dining table and chairs only seated 5 people when there was provisions for up to 11. Barbecue was filthy, had a fat catching container complete with cigarette butts and as a consequence we just put the lid back on it, refusing to use it. The rear security doors did not close, let alone lock. The Fire Safety Tag showed that the last inspection was carried out in February 2015. Not bad considering it is supposed to be done every 6 months. Beyond all of this there was a very strong mould smell in the whole house. We took the matters up with an employee at reception and whilst she was apologetic, nothing further was done by the management during our stay. We absolutely know that this is not the standard of all houses available, as our friends were staying in “house 1” and it met their expectations without exception. There are issues here that we believe lay firmly with the resort’s management and others we assume to be the responsibility of the owner of “house 3” but what is overwhelmingly and abundantly clear is that the house shouldn’t have been made available for rental, until it was up to the same standard as “house 1”. We were very disappointed with the standard of the property and will not be returning. Considering we have made our holidays in the Hinchinbrook region annually for the past 3 years this could have meant further stays, which to any business is the best customer you can have!…
I took my partner to this hotel for a quick fishing getaway and was extremely impressed with it. I booked a self-contained poolside villa for a very affordable nightly rate, and the staff also accommodated a late check-in time for us. Usually with a self-contained room, I only expect a basic kitchen - but this little villa was TRULY self-contained. The kitchen was equipped with a full stove-top, an oven, a dishwasher, a microwave, a toaster, a kettle and all of the appliances to match. There were also a few dishwashing tablets provided. On top of that, there was also a launderette with a washing machine and dryer, with liquid available for purchase on-site. I wasn't expecting to need it, but it did prove useful for smelly fishing clothes! With such a well-equipped villa, it would be very easy to stay for a week or two. The villa was very clean on arrival, and featured two bedrooms. We only used one of them and the bed was very comfortable, and the aircon very chilly. It was a very short walk (less than 100m) to the nearest jetty, which was well lit at night so we could fish the whole time. There was also a second nearby jetty next to the boat ramp, again well lit. In terms of surrounding facilities, there's a bar, restaurant, take-away, convenience store (with basic tackle/bait and a bottle shop) and fuel available on site. Prices are comparable to city prices, with only the convenience store snacks being a little dear. Even the alcohol was comparable to town prices, and there was a good range in both the bar and the bottle-o. And if you need more tackle than the convenience store offers, there's a tackle shop right across the road next to the boat ramp that also offers reasonable prices. Overall, my only complaint is that we didn't have much luck with the fishing! We'll definitely be back - but next time we stay, we'll bring a boat.…
Stayed at the Hinchinbrook resort for work recently. Chose to stay here as we were in Ingham and didn’t fancy the drive back to Townsville each day. The villas were spacious, clean and comfortable for our stay. The bistro / restaurant was reasonably priced with good meals. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. Definitely recommend this as a place to stay. Rae Rae in the restaurant / bistro was so lovely and nice.
If I could find the restaurant on here I would do a separate review with 5 stars. We had a buffet dinner on Christmas Eve and it was great!!! As far as the accommodation goes though: The poolside villa was nice & clean and spacious for a family of 5. For 4 nights, only 1 spare roll of toilet paper was supplied and we had to go searching. The pool was large, however had mould growing in it. It was still nice, as it was the only time we could go outside as the sandflies were the worst!!! Coils did nothing to effect them. A good spot if you’re putting your boat in as you can leave it at the pontoon, so this is the only reason I’d suggest you stay here. It could be improved by supplying (as well as enough toilet paper) coils and aeroguard or at least warning visitors of the severity of the sandflies. If you’re allergic to them you absolutely should not go here!! They could also stock the kitchen better with a fry pan and more plates and cutlery. I was glad to leave as the sandflies tainted the whole thing. …
