Finely detailed old world architecture is admired and enjoyed by guests at Running Creek Castle Bed & Breakfast. Surrounded by extensive manicured gardens and overlooking a small spring-fed lake, Running Creek Castle offers privacy and tranquility. Nestled in Kancoona Valley between Myrtleford, Bright and Mt Beauty, Running Creek Castle is at the foot of the Victorian Alps and still only 45 minutes drive from Albury/Wodonga. We also enjoy close proximity to Historic Beechworth and Yackandandah together with the Alpine Wine Region and the many fabulous gourmet experiences on offer in this sensational part of Victoria. Running Creek Castle is ideal for people seeking a relaxing getaway and makes the bed & breakfast experience a special and memorable one. We encourage potential guests to phone us and chat more about what we have to offer. The castle offers two fully self-contained suites. The suites each has a private external entrance on the ground floor and consists of two bedrooms, lounge, kitchen & private bathroom, while the main bedroom is a loft. The loft bedroom sleeps two, the lower bedroom sleeps four (a double tri-bunk and one single bed), plus there is a queen-sized sofa bed in the lounge on the middle level. Each suite can potentially sleep eight guests. Please note, that there are two sets of 14 steps between each level. The suites are gas heated for optimum guest comfort on chilly Alpine nights. All beds are fitted with electric blankets and all linen is included. A port-a-cot, baby bath and high chair are available, if required. Suites have ceiling fans for extra comfort during warm evenings. The castle offers two fully self-contained suites. Running Creek Castle is a credit to it's magnificent hosts Garry & Sandy Morgan. On arrival, the sight of the Castle from the road leaves you breathless & as you drive through the wrought iron gates you feel as if you have entered another era. The suite we stayed in had the charm of the Medieval era but all the modern conveniences. Clean & airy with everything you require and if anything was missing Garry & Sandy could not do enough to make our stay as comfortable as possible. This is a must for anyone, whether for a couple needing time out or a family that wishes to do something different. Highly recommended & we will be returning very soon.

Stay at Running Creek Castle was a lovely surprise for me, tucked away in the hills near Mt. Beauty. We were in the area for a family birthday, when my wonderful boy friend surprised me. We turned the bend & saw a Castle pop out of nowhere & he said " we're staying in a Castle!" I didn't believe him at first, but what a great place to stay! The owners are lovely, great service & they really looked after us. They even supplied fresh produce for breakfast! The grounds & views are stunning & we loved taking in the scenery & serenity walking around the lake. We would highly recommend watching the sunset, sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine. A lovely, quirky place that's very well maintained ... we will go back:)

The place was lovely and cosy and being in a 'castle' had a very unique feel to it that you don't get other accomodations. Janice was a lovely host and provided us with the necessary ammenities we needed. She helped us get settled in, gave us a tour of the place, set up the BBQ for us, provided us with cooking utensils. On the first day we wanted to go fishing in the creek, so the husband kindly dug up worms for us to use as bait.
Finally, on the last day, we had left a pair of AirPods in the accomodation. Janice dropped us an email notifying us and offered to post the item to us, as we had already gone on our way.
Would recommend you try out this place if you're looking around the area. Plenty of lovely wineries, cattle farms and things to do nearby.

True Story!....In South Kancoona, in North Eastern Victoria, near Myrtleford and Bright,....There is a Castle..... It is currently listed as Running Creek Castle Bed and Breakfast, but the 2 main acccommodation areas each appeared to have has a substantial kitchen area for those that wish to self-cater. It is tucked away off a country road, the first view of the Castle and Gardens from the road is quite a vision to behold. You would need to Book in Advance.....The Owners do everything themselves, and can get a bit swamped if fully Booked-Out on the previous days, but were kind enough to invite us to come to view the facility, even though it was at short notice. At present, the furnishing and decor does not match the grandeur of their surroundings, but with the graciousness, and eagerness of the Owners to assist, this is a work in progress, and that may be not that far off .The biggest Bonus is....no Mobile Phone Reception, no Wi Fi...So you can REALLY get a break away from it all!

My whole family recently stayed at the castle for the week and it was wonderful. The rooms were lovely and a great place to crash our heads. The grounds were beautiful and the kids absolutely loved exploring them. Did get cold at times (was the middle of winter), heaters were provided, however, the gas ones after awhile did give off a bit of a smell, but we just made sure we didn't have them on continually. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. Such a charming place to stay.

Thank you Janice and glen for the lovely relaxing stay at your castle ! Upon arrival we were greeted by Janice who showed us to the room and had turned on the gas heater for us ! We found the gas heater did emit abit of a gassy smell but worth it for the cold kancoona night ! The breakfast hamper was lovely it included eggs, bread, bacon , bananas , Beechworth apple juice , tea , moccona coffee and the best blackberry jam I've ever had ! The bed was very comfortable and fitted with electric blankets. The water here gets very hot and the pressure of the shower is amazing - beautiful after a lovely day of explore surrounding towns. The towels were also extremely soft , smelt lovely and clean and didn't have that hotel rubbery feel ! As we were here at the first day of winter it was very cold so we didn't venture to far into the castle grounds but did walk up to the keep to enjoy the view! Note there is literally NO reception or wifi here, so if you always have your phone close by best take a book or something to do, the tv does have Austar which gives you a lot of tv options. Now to hunt down that jam ............

Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a comprehensive review. Glad you enjoyed the jam...it's actually made just a couple of kilometres along our road, though as far as I know, Susie doesn't supply to any stores. If you would like her details, just let me know. Thanks and hopefully we may see you again sometime in the future.

The advertising for this b&b promises a castle with the chance of dinosaurs and breakfast included, and it's fair to say we weren't disappointed. The castle, complete with turrets and gargoyles, manages to somehow bridge the gap between comfortable weekend getaway and medieval fantasy. The hosts are welcoming and the breakfast basket is the largest I have seen at a b&b, complete with gluten free bread, fresh eggs from the resident chickens and local jam and juice. We definitely didn't go hungry. While we didn't actually see a dinosaur, it's not hard to believe some might be lurking in the gardens.
Well worth the visit if you are after a unique weekend getaway in a quiet and relaxing location that's an easy drive to some great historic towns such as Beechworth and Yackandandah.

My family recently spent 6 nights at this property - 2 adults and a 20, 18 and 16 y.o. We were very comfortable and enjoyed having the place to ourselves. We visited in mid January and enjoyed the solar heated pool and the surrounding gardens. The owners of the property were delightful and very accommodating. The breakfast supplies were excellent and for those who like coffee, an Aldi espresso machine and pods were provided.

Hi Alex, Thank you for your comments. sorry it's taken a while to respond, but we've been "flat out". I think I do a pretty good job of cleaning, however, because of the rough-sawn timber, it's a little tricky to keep it looking like it was a tree just yesterday. The only way I've found to get into all those groovy bits in the wood is with an nail brush in one hand and a old toothbrush in the other. I scrub on! Janice

My partner and I stayed Saturday night, 9 August 2014 in the cabin at Running Creek Castle. The main property is not really our cup of tea but it looks awesome if that's your sort of thing. The cabin is next door to the main property and unfortunately we didn't get to meet Garry and Sandy because we arrived quite late Saturday night and had to leave early Sunday morning. But a light was left on for us and we had no trouble finding the place - even without GPS! This cabin is a great size and would be awesome for a weekend getaway. We would definitely consider coming back for that when we have more time. The cabin is charming and in a really beautiful and out of the way location. The decor and furniture hasn't been updated for a while but that didn't bother us. We actually preferred that. It is a real country cabin with great ambience. No wifi, no GPS, no phone and very reasonably priced. Loved it.
