Tried to change a night weeks in advance. Left on hold all day by Wotif. Robot on answer machine stated I would be called back in one and a half hours. This never happened. Sent an email no response. App sends you to their website website sends you back to their app. Next day I pressed the button to wait for a call back for an hour and a half. Got a lady from the Phillipines could her roosters crowing in the background and laughter she started sorting it out took so long if cooked my dinner done the washing up and washed the floor then without completing this request hung up on me had to call her back. Moral of the story NEVER use WOTIF. You’d think with Covid drop in travel they’d look after their customers what a joke!
Considering it's an older style Motel, I wasnt sure what to expect, but had read some good reviews online and thought we would give it a try. Coming from interstate, this was to be our second Riverland stay, within a week. On entering the room, we were pleasantly surprised by the fresh feel and look of the room, though small. Good comfortable beds (including the single foldout) clean white sheets, white towelling and spotless bathroom. Couldn't fault it, and the pricing was great. The only thing we could say in the negative, was the occassional truck passing through the town... but that was not bothering us, we slept well regardless. We would definitely consider Glossop Motel for future stays.
I had made a booking with Wotif back in February for accommodation at this motel in early October (I had stayed here before and it was then a nice clean little motel). On arrival we found, like reviewer Sandra B., that the premises was locked up and the phone disconnected. A neighbour told us that the motel had not been operating for many months and he had seen a lot of guests turn up only to find the place is no longer open. My experience trying to get this through to Wotif was frustrating in the extreme, with calls dropping out, and customer service personnel unable to help but having to put me through to another number (which caused a lot of the call failures). Eventually I spoke to 'Jake' who organised a refund of the money I had paid to Wotif (who had the use of that money for the past 6 months, so are hardly the loser in this) He also offered to refund the difference between that payment and what I then had to pay for alternative accommodation but since this involved photographing and emailing my receipt it simply was not worth it after an hour of frustration. Wotif staff seemed surprised I refused their offer to find alternative accommodation - after the fiasco of being booked into a non-existent motel, I don't know what they expected. As it was, we were only in South Australia where it was relatively easy to find an alternative despite being a high demand period, but the result must be much worse for anyone caught in a similar situation in a very remote or totally unfamiliar area. All this was 6 days ago, ample time for Wotif to confirm that Glossop Motel is not operating and to remove it from their books, but as of this morning it was still offering rooms. This is appalling incompetence, and ensures that I will no longer trust Wotif/Expedia or their allied booking sites.…
Considering these motel rooms are a bit older, they were clean and tidy, the shower was spotless and the air conditioner did a very good job. We didnt use the swimming pool facilities but that area was also clean and tidy, the water was crystal clear. Would sty there again if in the area
Our room had everything we needed: fridge (freezer inside), breakfast station, aircon. There's a bbq available for guests' use as well. The room is small, compact, but suited our needs well. Good for a one- or two-night stopover. As always in slightly older buildings you need to be aware of spiders (we had one of some kind, which we sprayed with the bug spray in our room) but that comes with the territory. All in all a pleasant experience.
