Reviews summary

Gran Melia Palacio de Isora boasts a location that many guests admire for its scenic views and vicinity to local towns, though a few regard it as somewhat isolated. While the hotel's ambiance and picturesque grounds win over several visitors, the experience is marred for others by rooms that are in need of an update and amenities that often come with extra costs or require premium access. The service quality varies, with reports of both commendable and disappointing encounters.
Cleanliness is generally good, but some guests suggest there's room for improvement. Furthermore, the value proposition of the hotel is often questioned, as some travelers feel misled by the cost of the all-inclusive options and hidden fees.

Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favourite
What an outstanding hotel. On arrival we couldn't believe how grand and beautiful the hotel is, immaculately clean and had a real feel of luxury to it everywhere you went. We went for 9 nights as a family of 4 with a 5 year old and a nearly-2 year old, all inclusive, over the May half term.
We are not the kind of people that go back to the same place twice but we are already looking up prices for this hotel next year. We have done a few 4/5 star all inclusive holidays in the Canary Islands and Europe before but this one outshone them all.
Room
We paid to upgrade to a Master Suite so there was a separate sleeping area for the kids at night - our room was number 3143 and from what i could gather it was the best room in the hotel location wise! The room itself was immaculate and large with a beautiful huge bathroom, his and hers sinks and walk in showers and a huge jacuzzi style bath. The bed was enormous! The air con worked brilliantly in both parts of the room and the black out curtains were a godsend. It was so handy to have a kitchen and dining area with a microwave etc even though we were all inclusive. Modern and stylish furnishing. Location wise this room was on floor 3, same as reception and round the corner from the kids Pirate Pool, and just one floor up from floor 2 where the family pool, plaza and buffet restaurant were. We were so close to everything but far enough that the we couldn't hear the noise of the evening entertainment at all of an evening - just perfect.
Pools
The kids pool (the "Pirate pool") was fantastic for younger families. Great fun for the kids and with the pool being the same shallow level all the way around it felt very safe. A lovely warm temperature too.
The family pool was fantastic. A little chilly at times but a great set up and plenty of sun loungers. The infinity pool is just stunning to look at and swim in (although it is salt water and rather chilly). The little areas mid-pool with raised parts for seating etc were a lovely touch. We didn't try the adult only pool so can't comment.
Towel stands were manned constantly with fresh towels always readily available and the sun beds were very comfortable, most with umbrellas that were essential to keep in the shade (the constant breeze means you never get hot and easily don't realise how strong the sun is).
Food/Restaurants
I was blown away by the quality of the food in this hotel. The buffet (Pangea) had the best quality and selection i've ever seen at an all inclusive for breakfast and dinner, something for everyone and hardly ever any waiting or hustle and bustle to get to anything. The ice cream and sweet station was an absolute winner with the kids. The staff were always so polite and friendly and accommodating, doing their best to seat you where you preferred. The terrace out the back of Pangea is just beautiful to sit and eat - would definitely recommend. Some mornings we were serenaded by a violinist or saxophonist at breakfast which was a wonderful surprise.
A slight lack of lunch choices, but the 3 a la carte restaurants that are available are lovely. Again we couldn't believe the quality of the restaurants and the food - it's not often you get such good a la carte options on an all inclusive. The Italian (L'Olio) was delicious and a firm favourite. Such a beautiful setting with the glass walls just at the end of the plaza with views of the ocean, and their Focaccia was to die for. Oasis was lovely (HUGE portions) but often a lot of flies around which was a bit annoying. The main lunch restaurant Agave was in a gorgeous setting right next to the infinity pool and the service was great, just a slightly more limited and niche menu.
Apparently there were snacks available morning and afternoon but we never needed to try these as we were always so full from the meals. We visited the Ice Cream hut by the infinity pool next to the Oasis restaurant regularly - the servers there were fantastic and the ice creams delicious with a huge range of flavours.
Whilst lunches and dinners only included wine/beer/cava and soft drinks, the wine was very nice and there was plenty of access to so many branded drinks and cocktails the rest of the day. The strawberry daiquiri and aperol spritz were a delight!
Entertainment
The kids programme was a little confusing, with kids club locations/availability/timings changing from day to day so you had to be on top of the itinerary. The mini club (for over 4/5 year olds) generally was great, fantastic staff and a great setting where they do structured activities/themes each day. It ran 10-1 most days and some afternoons 3-5:30, and some afternoons/evenings they would have other optional activities which looked good fun, but we just weren't quite organised to book as timings were quite rigid. The water carpet they bring out to the family pool was fabulous.
There were a few kids surprises along the way - at certain times we felt like we were in Disney World! Eating breakfast on superhero day and in walks the Hulk and Iron Man - amazing. Then eating lunch one day and giant dinosaurs walked past us with the Jurassic Park theme tune playing as there was a dinosaur encounter activity going on near the plaza, the kids absolutely loved it and the random pop ups gave a magical touch.
There wasn't a set mini disco each day which was a little disappointing, but there was usually something going on for the kids at varying times between 6-8:30, including bouncy castles some nights. The childrens disney show was fantastic - great quality of entertainers, they clearly pay for good quality entertainers.
The same can be said for the evening entertainment - very high quality and great fun, and the kids loved it too running around the plaza and watching the different dancers and acts that appeared on the various stages around the plaza.
The creche was available for children under 4. In all honesty the creche room didn't appear to have very much in it in terms of toys/entertainment and it was VERY expensive, at 30Euros for 1.5hrs or 50Euros for 3 hrs. We used it once and it was lovely having some child free time, but my youngest daughter wasn't keen on going back in again so we didn't use it again. It's a good service to have available though and the staff were great.
Location
There isn't much around the hotel to be honest, but the main part of Tenerife where Siam Mall is is just a 20-25minute cab ride away (about 35 euros) so was nice for a change of scenery. If you're looking for a relaxing family stay then this is perfect!
Criticisms
My main criticisms would be the lack of bars/drinks service throughout the day. If you were round the pirate pool, the nearest bar was by the family pool and you had to go back in the hotel, down the stairs or lift, then out over to the other side of the family pool, then carrying drinks back to the kids pool from there wasn't the easiest. There are buttons around the pool to press for bar service but they rarely turned up at the kids pool, sometimes waiting 30-60 mins before anyone came. Better access to drinks from the kids pool is definitely an improvement that can be made.
My only other criticism would be lack of lunch options. The setup with the various restaurants on all inclusive is a little confusing and a lot to get your head around in terms of what was open when and which ones you had to book. The app didn't work at all for us so we just asked reception or the restaurants about bookings (which were always no problem). At lunch, it's unusual to have no buffet option at an all inclusive so if you hadn't booked the mediterannean (Oasis) or Italian (L'Olio) restaurants, you were limited to the small mexican style menu in Agave which grew a bit tiresome by the end. There were often long queues for this restaurant at lunch time and it seemed to take quite a while to get people seated. To be fair, however, on those occasions we just went to Oasis or L'Olio and asked if they could fit us in without a booking, which they always did.
Overall, once you've settled in and got to grips with the whereabouts of everything, what floor each pool/restaurant is on and what lifts to use, and the timetables and booking systems for restaurants and kids stuff, its a fabulous hotel and I couldn't recommend it highly enough. The pictures don't even do it justice how beautiful the setting is. Thank you for a wonderful and memorable holiday Gran Melia - we will see you again soon!

This was our fourth stay at the Gran Melia, this time we stayed red Level in a deluxe room on a bed and breakfast basis.
We stayed for 5 nights and although the hotel offers a wide choice of restaurants we choose to be able to go into nearby Alcala and use our favourite place which is Sauco.
We love the service in Red level and the little extras you get which makes your stay feel special.
I do think though that the hotel should issue Red level guests with perhaps a subtle bracelet or something that distinguishes you from other guests not for any other reason other than if you are paying a premium then others who are not are not able to sneak onto the sunbed area or in the pool. There was a couple whilst we were there doing this and its out of order, no one was challenged by staff or asked to confirm their room number (even at breakfast) so basically anyone with enough cheek could just walk in which this couple did.
We did have lunch one day at the Market Grill but as we were not on half board we had to pay but were disappointed at having to shell out €5 for a small draft beer so we didn't go again.
Nemo's bar is still going strong but we missed the young people who used to play piano and guitar, instead they seem to have a jazz player in residence who was talented but not our bag.
We love the Melia for its location but don't expect a vibrant nightlife around Alcala because its very quiet and compact. The staff at Red level breakfast work really hard and provide a great service.
All the staff in red level are really friendly and hard working, they will help you with anything.
We are Melia Gold members (through Amex Platinum) but I can't really say that we benefited in anyway through Gold status . For example I booked using my 'birthday voucher' and checked in online as required but predictably no room upgrade was available. This was the second time this has happened so I don't really have any faith in the Melia membership scheme, I cannot see the benefits at all.
That said we are going to return to the Gran Melia in the winter of 2020/2021 because we love it despite some irritating issues.
Go and enjoy, you can't help but be impressed.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
We found this lovely hotel by chance when we moved from another hotel a few miles away, which was a disaster. This was quite a few years ago and have now lost track of the times we have been back.
I need to clarify that I very rarely produce online review’s but after deciding to return to the Gran Melia Hotel further to our stay last month I looked at a few reviews from people who recently stayed at and wondered if I was looking at the correct hotel?
We have found that if you have the smallest of issues with any aspect of the hotel you should bring this up constructively with the appropriate person at the time you are at the hotel. What is the point of giving criticism when you get home? The wonderful staff can solve almost anything except put the clock back to assist you during your stay.
After a few years visiting at the main hotel we decided to upgrade to Red Level and have never looked back, I would highly recommend this as its such a tranquil place, adults only, plenty of well cushioned sunbeds which have recently all been replaced with new ones, plenty of umbrellas with help to move them always available. The staff cannot do enough to make your stay a wonderful experience, always acknowledging you with a smile and a’ hello’ and this is from the management to the cleaners and gardeners who all keep the whole complex immaculate.
There have been a few changes across the hotel, which we were not too sure about at first but after a few days realised they were good overall, not just for the hotel but also for guests. I would suggest that visitors should read all the leaflets given to you on arrival so you can see exactly what you are entitled to. The food has its moments but also exceptional ones especially in Le Terrace where the food is extremely well prepared to a very high standard, that along with the fantastic view leaves nothing to be desired.
From what I have heard a new steak house will be opening shortly which should elevate the food available to an even higher level. The fish served in all the restaurants is really good and although the new tapas restaurant has a few teething problems they are aware of this and I am confident it will be shortly changed for the better.
We are fortunate to be able to travel to many places very often to many countries every year and if not 100% happy with a location, hotel or staff would not return.
If you require a hotel in a good location, excellent staff, a good choice of food with reasonably priced wine, this Gran Melia hotel is certainly worth a visit.

Hotel in lockdown due to the Covid 19 situation .
All the members of staff were gracious and friendly given the circumstances.
Unfortunately the communication and the treatment provided by the concierge and the managers was poor and below expectations for a 5 star hotel.
Locked here with my pregnant wife , they emptied the minibar, they stopped changing the bad linen and cleaning the rooms, when we asked the concierge about why they have not communicated to stop providing the service ( we paid for an all inclusive service ) and challenged the food cooked over and over again I was told to go back to my own country .
Please find attached the food they are serving along with the only communication provided to the residents.
Melia , Covid 19 will be over, but ignorance and below standard middle management will destroy your business.
You have certainly lost my custom along with that one from my friends and family.

We visited this hotel in February and really enjoyed our stay. We were two adults and three children aged 2, 3 and 6.
We had a superior double and grand deluxe, both were spacious and very clean. You can hear entertainment on a nighttime it didn’t both my children but worth mentioning, it doesn’t go on late.
The resort itself is massive and even when busy you aren’t on top of each other. All the pools have lifeguards and the Pirate Pool, is perfect for little ones. Slides are a good size, my two year old was flying up and down on her own. The family pool is deep with a circle in the middle that’s shallower. Both of these pools are heated to a good temperature. We always managed to get a sun bed you aren’t allowed to reserve beds before 10am. The beach towels are big and fluffy and can be collected every day by the pool.
There is access through the hotel to the promenade overlooking the sea which was great to walk with the little ones. There is a play park but the pirate pool (floor surface is a bit uneven and we and others has a few scrapes and bumps) there is also a nice play area just by the seafront.
There are some really good rock pools and an area in the sea that older children can walk in. The beach at the hotel isn’t fantastic, not really sand but tiny stones, but we jumped in a taxi to a better one along the coast.
The food is pretty good. You do have to book a lot of the restaurants. Do this early if you have little ones that want to eat when then open. The breakfast buffet has a good selection (boiled eggs are not hard boiled very very runny) and the same place does a buffet in the evening. We did get a piece of chicken that wasn’t cooked. Luckily I had cut it up for my little one and noticed.
There are bouncy castles, Wii, facepaints, and dancing in the evening for the children. In the day there’s activities in the family pool for both adults and children.
We hired a double buggy in advance for 50 euro for the week. It was great and meant I didn’t need to take one with me.
All the staff are really friendly and brilliant with the children. I would really recommend this place for families.

This is a very big hotel with numerous pools among which a very big one with over 200 meters. The gartens are very well kept. The restaurations employees are very kind and ready to help. We paid a 5 Digits Summ for our stay ( 4 persons) in a suite with 2 Bedrooms…facing the park lot! And this agter we changed room already as our first rooms were on the first floor, directly ober the parking, completeley in the shadow. We did get a welcome drink, ( not even a glass of water) nor atour of the hotel. We were explain on apiece of paper that we have to make sure we reserve everywhere or we will not be accepted on eating areas. Although we were told about all the areas we are not alowed to go to, because they are reserved for red levels. this means that you have not for example a side for the red level, and a side for other guests, but all over the location areas with red chains, where you are not allowed to go or to sit pr to enter. About a welcome gift or attention, like small chocolates or a letter of the director welcoming you, don‘t count on it! Nothing! The furniture in the rooms are cheap and not well kept. Plastic sofas, stains on Tables, all Feet of the furnitures are damaged. we arrived in the rooms and 6 bulbs had to be changed. The beds will not be open for you in the an very big one with over 200 meters. The gartens are very well kept. The restaurations employees are very kind and ready to help evenings. The snacks at the pools are except for a tomato salad largely ignoring that many people are vegetarian or vegan. The service is made with recycled cups and bamboo culteries. For the latest we had to ask, as they were not brought with the food. A lot of money is being saved here under the cover of environment issues. We are traveling a lot both professionaly and for pleasure. This here is all show and no luxury. everything is very impersonal, you will not meet anyone because of the size of the location with a lot of prosperous sitting areas completely empty. We wanted to leave and go to another hotel. Royal sea, but the hotel will not let us back away and will charge the full price no matter what. We had offered to stay a few days and not the 13 nights planned to find a win win solution. i will post pictures in my next recension.

We arrived on Thursday currently staying unil Thursday 21st October
Upon arrival we checked in late around 8.45pm in the evening we also have a 10mo old baby with us. Checking in was ridiculous more conplex than needed be, We were given a room a very long walk away from the main lobby, once we reached our key didn't work, My husband then had to walk a the way back to get either another key that does work or another room, we was told we would be moved. We then moved to another room which was right next to the outdoor entertainment so music was ridiculously loud extremely inconvenient, my husband then complained and we FINALLY got a quiet room we are now approaching nearly 10pm and we have a very tired baby
We booked a half board option, now for a 5 star hotel one would assume basic things like drinking WATER or soft drinks would be included NO this is not the case,my husband and several other hotel customers have been to local shop / supermarket and brought cases of water back.
The main buffet restaurant Pangia opens at 7pm so do all other restaurants which you have to make a reservation on the "app" some are even fully booked!! The opening times are very inconvenient for families with small children as baby needs to eat usually around 5.30 or 6. Also Lunchtime you have to book ( again Inconvenient and lack of understanding when you need to feed baby at certain times) Lunchtime restaurant opens at 1pm
The staff seem nice but customer service could be alot better. Little details like following are alsp charged at an extra cost. Refill of amenities in bathroom ie shower gel and soap again have to request through app and extra charges. Even basic hotels don't charge for this. If you use teabags and would like to request more they charge extra 10 euro for this. Every hotel i have ever stayed in dont charge for tea or coffee or replenishment but Gran Melia do. I have also booked a Clarins spa treatment for Wednesday they charge extra 30 euros tp use spa facilities on top of treatment. Facilities should come as standard when having a treatment done. Just making future guests aware of these hidden extras that should be basic things for 5 star hotel.

Absolutely loved our stay at the Gran Melia Palacio de Isora! We were travelling with our todddler and he really enjoyed his time there. The staff was very friendly and always had a smile for the babies and kids. We could entertain our toddler with the great playground in and infront of the hotel as well as in the baby and pirate pool.
However, the hotel has still some room for improvement:
1. Baby club (8 months to 5 years) only has the possibility to drop off your kids for extra charge. When asked if we could come and play with our son in the club, the request was denied (only one kid was in the baby club). Apparently this is only possible from 2pm-3pm in de mini club while the baby club is being cleaned. Personally, I think there should not be a tv in the baby club, especially if there is a fee you pay to leave your child there.
2. Buffet is large and has a good variety but unfortunately, the options over the days do not really change. Except for the deserts. Maybe some themed buffet evenings would give the guests a change in flavour.
3. Animation in the evening was lacking, over the week there were only 2 shows showing, which left the rest of the days a bit boring in the evening. Also it is a shame that the mini disco is also only on 2 days per week and it’s not in the main area but hidden in the mini club.
Overall we had a pleasant stay here and we most probably will be coming back in a couple of years.

We had Red Level but not worth the extra
Poor admin at check in - they didn’t believe I had already paid
Room in bad state of repair, leaking shower, phone & kettle not working - took 3 days to resolve
Room service extremely slow
Pool area badly designed, no space and had to get to pool by 8am to ensure you got a spot with sun
Christmas Eve I ended having room service as my meal sent back twice and just gave up! My husband had eaten his meal and we sat at the table with no drinks for 20 minutes. Restaurant Manager at The Terrace didn’t even apologise once, it was appalling the way it was handled. I tried to explain what had gone wrong to the Red Level Desk & chap there did listen but still not resolved to my satisfaction
We will never go back!

Excellent, if you're considering other places stop wasting your time. This is the one to go to!
Highlights:
1 Hotel and surrounding area serene and stunning
2 Staff are just superb, always meeting and greeting you in the corridors, exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful
3 Food (particularly breakfast is excellent)
Kareen from sports and wellness team really made our experience. Not only did he run some brilliant sessions across the hotel but also arranged a table tennis tournament for us and co-ordinated paddle tennis with us.
I doubt a more COVID secure hotel exists, not only is the majority of the hotel structure stunning open air corridors but the communal area ceilings (also open) are some 40 feet high. All areas spotless with regular cleaning and staff and patrons all comply with COVID rules in be a relaxed effortless manner that means you don't really notice it at all.
Reccomendations:
1) The melia app is a bit finicky download ASAP and if you can't use it in advance get the check in team to sort it out for you. Then book restaurant reservations immediately.
2) The resort runs a scheme where you get 20 euros hotel credit every day you arrange not to have your room cleaned. Use it for spa water ritual or some other treats.
3) The coastal walk to Los Gigantes is well worth it and you can get a bus back if you're not up to the return trip
4) Finally if you don't use the semi-natural rock pools just outside and along from the hotel (at high tide only) you're missing a trick. The beaches and sea are also nice but best with water shoes as little sand in the sea more craggy rocks.
5) Days out to El Teide, surfing in Playas de Las Americas and Siam Park (water park) are all well worth it.
6) Ignore weather forecast apps they kept saying it would be raining even a couple of hours before but all we had was stunning sun with an occasional cloud at most!
Things to be aware of:
1) The adult and family pools are meant to be heated but didn't feel particularly warm but were still okay after a minute or two (in late November) but markedly cooler than the ocean waters.
2) The hotel's reccomended excursion company is not great. Half day trip to El Teide was 4 hours vommit inducing coach ride of hotel pick ups around Tenerife 30mins to El Teide and only 45 min stop near the bottom of the mountain followed by the dreaded return journey. The hotel is great and probably should change their excursion partner.
3) Transport around Tenerife is not that well developed for tourists so you're fairly dependent upon the fairly expensive local taxi service (no Uber or similar sadly).
