We couldn't fault our time spent at Shepherd's Croft. The accommodation is superb. The decor is beautiful and very tasteful. Everywhere was so clean. Mike and Shiona couldn't have been more helpful ensuring we took the best route to my niece's wedding in Penrith. The beds were very comfortable and breakfast delicious. Loved the fresh melon. The cooked breakfast was...

Have stayed before and returning brought back all of the happy memories. We finished our day's walk absolutely wringing but Shiona just took over without fuss and took away all of our wet clothes before making us hot drinks served with biscuits. Nothing was too much trouble for Shiona and Mike. Hope to stay again.

This is our 3rd visit within a year, and Mike and Shiona are always warm and welcoming. We tend to stay here on our way from Aberdeen to Cheshire, it's also a great way to start a holiday in the Lakes. Beds are comfortable, breakfast is superb, (always ask for the Cumberland sausage) rooms are great for what you need,...

Thank you for your kind comments Gill. We're glad you enjoyed your stay with us - we certainly enjoyed your company. Just to clarify your room tip - if anyone books either of the other rooms, they are given exclusive use of the bathroom. So we don't let both of these rooms at the same time and the bathroom is...

This has got to be the nicest B&B room I have ever stayed in, and believe me I have stayed in some corkers. It’s almost more like a suite or a bedsitting room. There’s a king-sized bed, with more than plenty of room for a sizeable bedside cabinet each side. You could probably fit two more beds that size into...

Our first time staying here at this adorable well situated bed and breakfast. We travel by motorbikes and we had the opportunity to park our machines in Shiona & Mikes garage. We hadn't been here before so it was a first for us... We can't wait to go back. Great hosts, tasty breakfasts and good chat. Lovely place, fa up.ous...

Our hosts could not have been nicer and after a long drive down from Scotland, the pot of tea and biscuits on our arrival was really welcomed. The house is set in the centre of the village surrounded by super countryside. This is an excellent area for cycling and, being close the Lakes, is just a short drive to plenty...

My son and I stayed three nights at Shepherds Croft over the Easter weekend and were very well looked after. Sonia and Mike were very welcoming and very informative on all local matters. The rooms were impeccable, airy, light and comfy. The twin room, very spacious. The bathroom scrupulously clean and roomy. The charm of this croft was its location...

Mike showed me to my lovely clean bright room before I nipped out for a quick pint at the friendly village pub 3 doors away....

We stayed with Mike and Shiona for nearly a week in July 2014 as part of a longer holiday in Britain from Australia. Mike and Shiona catered for my wife and I, our children 12 and 15 and gran and we enjoyed every moment from the lovely rooms, talking to Mike and Shiona to being directed around the local area....

I don't know how Shiona and Mike found Culgaith, but I am glad I did. It's completely away from all the city hustle and bustle, but wonderfully convenient for fabulous sightseeing and the pub is about 20 seconds walk away! Immaculately clean and comfortable. Friendly welcoming hosts. Great prices. I can only say give it a try if you want...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We are located in the beautiful Eden Valley - well situated for exploring the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Northern Pennines, Hadrian's Wall and Southern Scotland. There's lots of good walking and cycling nearby. As we are 1 mile from the A66 and only 10 minutes from the M6 we are an ideal place to stopover if you are travelling to or from Scotland. Shiona & Mike converted Shepherds Croft from being a "Bank Byre" (a type of barn) into a large house in 1989, doing most of the work themselves. The house is unusual in that there are two ground floor levels - because the bank into which the barn was built slopes, so that the rear garden and patio are higher than the cobbled frontage. The layout of the house is ideally suited to B&B accommodation - all the letting rooms are on the same floor and there is a separate residents lounge/ dining room. The house is very warm. The walls are 2 foot thick! And all rooms have individually adjustable central heating radiators. We are only 50 yds from the village pub/restaurant, The Black Swan. The residents lounge/dining room is large enough for you to relax in comfort. We have assembled a comprehensive collection of information on local tourist attractions, but we are always willing to help you plan your stay with some local advice. Mike was a member of the local mountain rescue team for over 30 years. There is a range of games for you to play and you are welcome to sit in the conservatory, go onto the patio or into the garden. You can also borrow a book from our collection. Breakfast is served at the time of your choice usually between 08.00 And 09.00. ... more   less
