Detailed Reviews
The fact we kept returning during Nov/Dec to stay sums it up. Etty Bay is such a beautiful secluded little bay with a lovely sandy beach complete with cassowaries roaming freely during the day though the most common time is late arvo/early evening when the heat of the day has passed. They will come right up to your camp table in search of food but you are requested to not feed them. Then add the wonderful friendly service of the current managing staff and the safe swim area and it’s no wonder we kept coming back! Fortunately with each stay we were able to secure beach facing powered site. The few absolute beach sites were non powered. Cabins were to the back of the property. The toilet/shower block does need a lot of improving/updating but it sufficed and we had plenty of hot water. There is a self serve laundry (need a key from the Office and cost for a wash is $5, same for using the dryer. There is no camp kitchen but there are council public barbecue facilities facing the beach and the public toilets/shower is at the back of the private key code accessed Caravan Park Amenities block. There is a small Fish ‘n Chip shop beside the reception Office but has limited days and hours of opening and last orders are strictly 15mins prior to closing. They do have wifi but there systems were struggling and then finally crashed during all our visits. No doubt it will be rectified as soon as it can be. Would we return? In a heart beat!

This is one of the top 5 caravan parks in Australia. Book well ahead
The caravan park only has 20 sites, meaning you are assured of an ocean view and you will never be troubled by crowding. It doesn't take long before you are on first name terms with the majority of your fellow campers.
The camp ground is limited by rain forest on three sides and the ocean on the other. The cassowaries run free - don't be surprised to turn around and find one surveying your annex area or looking in your windows.
The beach is a feature. It gently slopes into tropical waters, often 25 metres wide at low tide and is a haven for kids and toe splashing walkers.
The fish-and-chip shop, with it large sheltered deck is a welcome asset if you are tired of cooking or simply want a table to sit around day or night.
Telephone coverage is zero, but the provided WiFi is excellent. Load a VOIP app before you go (WhatsApp for example) and you are fine.
Innisfail is only 20 mins away if you are stuck.
The new owners are investing heavily in improved amenities which were sorely needed.

Spent three nights in a cabin at the park. Was clean and had everything we wanted. The park grounds are pristine and cassowaries wander freely throughout and along the beach. If it's seclusion and a chance to escape the crowds during the wet season this is your place. We enjoyed fabulous weather and were delighted to see there was a swimming net so we could bathe without worrying about crocs and stingers. We did several day trips as Etty Bay is quite central to many tourist destinations; Cardwell Spa Pools, Josephine Falls, Babinda Boulders just to name a few. We have been before a couple of times and will definitely be back.

We are long time users and campers at Etty Bay. We have just spent 16 nights there in the caravan park. This is first time I have heard people complaining about the toilets as they walked past our camp. The muck truck came the day before Christmas Day and the toilet area smelt the whole time since and seemingly got worse over time. Some of the toilets are not servicable and the disabled was closed. The rubbish bins didn't appear to be hosed after the Garbage truck emptied them and there seemed to be more flies than we had noticed on previous visits. The fish/chip side of the "shop" is not always open when advertised and made for an awkward evening when our visitors were going to have fish and chips for dinner that night and it was Closed by 6.15 pm when should have been open until 8 on facebook but 7 on the door sign. There is nothing else to eat except when the caravan booking side is open there is takeaway sandwiches which are apparently sourced from a Cafe locally and not made on site. There is no WiFi in the park unless you want to sit at the kiosk and get service. So no mobile phones and pretty much no TV. Which in some instances is a good thing and some people may find that refreshing, but after 16 nights it was becoming a bit frustrating especially when it rained and we had to be indoors. Otherwise the beach is just as beautiful as it ever was and the Cassowaries roamed around as they always do. The beach water is pristine and Cruiser the Crocodile didn't make an appearance while we were there. Well we don't think he did. The stinger net is in at the moment and seems to be being operated by the Surf Life Savers. The Manager is trying his best we believe however going by how much staff used to be employed and what is there now, he must be doing it tough. Etty Bay is NOT a village. It has a kiosk come booking office with a few basic grocery items and a small fish and chip "shop". One of the things we looked forward to while we camp there is the opportunity to have a break from the everyday cooking and washing up of usual life. Sitting at the kiosk watching the waves roll in, having a decent cappuccino perhaps a scone or a hamburger, this is not available unless you go to Mourilyan or Innisfail. So my rating is only a two, one for the beach and one for the Cassowaries. Otherwise it is certainly no longer up to the standard we expected.

I have just returned from 2 nights at Etty Bay, and am beyond impressed by the quality of accommodation, professionalism of staff and the amazing beauty of the location. I booked late last week, for 2 nights, and on arrival, was upgraded from a regular cabin to the brand new Container Cabin, which was just pure luxury. The container cabin is much quieter inside than the usual Jayco cabins most van parks have, and this cabin was just so nice. The quality was superb. The staff are ultra friendly without being over the top and in your face. The location is to die for, and don't be scared of the cassowaries, which roam throughout the park and on the beach. Also, in the current times, this is a Covid safe environment, and they do it well.

Etty Bay is stunningly pretty, with cassowaries wandering through the caravan park and along the beach. I would take a cup of coffee and my folding chair down to the beach and sit in the shade of the trees for ages, then go for a walk. Happy Hour, to which everyone is welcome, was great fun. My five star rating is entirely for Etty Bay itself. The amenities at the caravan park are very basic and could be cleaned more often, and the booking system is a pig's breakfast.

When I rang up to book they couldn't find the vouchers I had prepaid for a gift for my grandma. No hand towels or racks for bathroom or kitchen in cabin.
Be lovely to be provided a beach towel since where at the beach and little bottles of shampoo and conditioner like most places I have stayed.
Cafe has limited hours its open. So need to bring own food and all your essentials. Don't forget to pack anything as they don't sell essential items like I have seen in other caravan parks .
Front glass door didn't lock on my grandma cabin.
Cutlery and plates mix matched, not enough
of them, and size of bowels way to small.
Our cabin had no table on verandah. Misisng completely had the chairs only. My grandma cabin table outside needed some TLC. On arrival staff was not very friendly. Not worth $130 per night.
Cabins where clean and view was lovely because lucky for us the park was empty and no caravan where blocking our view from our cabin which are located at the back of the park

Etty Bay is beautiful and well worth the visit. We had multiple cassowary sightings with the odd goanna cruising around also.
Communication prior to booking was extremely difficult if non existent - we tried emails and calls but nothing was answered and so decided on a day trip to the area which is how we finally got a booking for 2 cabins.
Upon arrival, it was evident, that the cabins have seen better days and they are certainly in need of some TLC. The front deck area was covered in sand, dust from the previous inhabitants and the deck furniture was broken/very worn and covered in dust - this is not the ideal welcome and can we suggest that if furniture is broken, it should be removed. These cabins are advertised as being deluxe!
The beds were comfy and sheets were clean, bathrooms were good with great pressure and plenty of hot water.
There were inconsistencies between the kitchens in the 2 cabins. One had glass wine glasses while the other had a strange assortment of plastic 'glasses'. The fridge in one had not been wiped out and was quite dirty.
We enjoyed our stay, we are glad we went, but for $130 a night for each cabin, I think that a little more care should be taken to upgrade the accommodation and improve the facilities.

The location was great.
The shipping container cabin was a great idea.
Keep these things in mind if choosing a shipping container cabin:
•There are no hand towels.
•There are no tea towels
•There is no hand soap.
•There are no bedside tables therefore no bedside lamps.
•There are no wine glasses.
•We only had one spoon to share for breakfast.
•There is no bottle opener.
•There are no metal utensils to utilise the council BBQ's on the beach in front of the caravan park.
•The towels feel like air cell blankets and are very heavy and not conducive to drying properly.
•Take your own pillow. This was probably the biggest issue for us.
Despite these things it was a really lovely 3 days away. We would definitely return would think that at $160 per night the above things would be taken care of.
It was super lovely to find the air con on and cold water in the fridge when we arrived.
The staff were pleasant also.
It was great to see the Cassowary and babies several times. This was a first for me and I was glad to have finally seen them.
The evening on the beach was the best.

Thanks Marlin, we're really sorry to hear your cabin had some missing items. This is our error and we're very sorry to have inconvenienced you. We've reminded the housekeeping team of the checklist so this sort of thing doesn't happen. We would encourage you to mention these kinds of issues to reception so that we can rectify the shortage immediately. Pleased to hear you had a nice stay otherwise. Happy holidays!

Etty bay is such a beautiful part of the area and the wild life is incredible with Cassowary wondering around and a goanna quiet comfortable to be around humans 🤪
I had a powered site for my Campervan was a tiny patch of grass not even enough room to put my awing up and was quite smelly next to drain.
The amenities block was very old and tired and was shocked there was no mop or disinfectant to use after you showered.
The park is in a beautiful situation,I would go back but maybe not In school holidays.

Thanks Janie, we're so pleased you encountered some of the local wildlife. As our park is quite small, we acknowledge that sites are not as big as some of the larger parks around. It's unusual though that you could not put your awning up. We'd really appreciate if you could advise your site number and we'll look into this. We are also please to report that an upgrade of the amenities is in planning and we hope to commence work this year. We hope to see you again once the upgrades are completed.

i am not the lessee of Etty Bay Caravan Park, and I do not make bookings. However I can tell you that the Caravan Park was closed yesterday 1st June 2020 as we went to the beach for a drive.
Judith, the Etty Bay area is dog free as it is part of a National Park and there are several Cassowaries and chicks in the area.
Yes a few bugs around but we always roll on the Rid and didn’t have any problems at all. Movies to rent from shop although it was quiet and they gave us a couple free gratis
Hi there - when we were there, cabins were available, but you would have to phone the park reception to make a booking and find out about the cabin's configuration. Cheers, Kaye
