The weather was cool and refreshing, the room was spotless, and the staff were warm and attentive to every detail. The experience was well worth the price; breakfast was freshly cooked, lunch was delicious, and the onsen was incredibly relaxing. For dinner, the A5 Wagyu Sukiyaki is an absolute must-try. We will definitely return!

One of a kind Japanese inspired hotel and onsen in this region. You can’t miss this. It’s no wonder why royalty come here. The landscaping, the layout, architecture is amazing.

Mon Cham camping / Glamping is delightful but after a while of semi rustic / unpredictable showers and sleeps, we enjoyed the hot onsen and shower here.

We had a room with private onsen > preferred that to the public onsen that was crowded while I was there. There are 2 main onsen pools, gender separated and a cold bath. The inner onsen is good. The outdoor onsen wasn’t very clean imo. Our tatami mat room was spacious and the bedsheets covers all in mint condition - as long as you like sleeping on the floor!

Breakfast is delicious with plenty of choice - mostly Japanese but with western prepared eggs options > yummy! One of our guests was celebrating her birthday and she was greeted with a slice of cheesecake at breakfast.

All in all, it would have been easy to give a place like this 5 stars but the hotel rates are steep and there no similar alternative accommodation nearby. Also it’s not very high up in the mountains so no misty mountain experience if you get what I mean. our room 604 shower drainage would choke up after each quick shower, which meant the front garden would get flooded.

Dear Khun leavethewritingtome, Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback about your stay at Ryokan Onsen@Moncham. We're delighted to hear that you appreciated the unique Japanese-inspired design, the beautiful landscaping, and the overall layout of our property. It's wonderful to know that our hot onsen and shower facilities provided a relaxing retreat after your glamping experience in Moncham. We apologize for the crowded conditions at the public onsen during your visit and the cleanliness of the outdoor onsen. Your comfort is our priority, and we'll address these concerns promptly. We're glad that you enjoyed the private onsen in your room and found our tatami mat room to be spacious and well-maintained. Thank you for highlighting the variety and quality of our breakfast offerings. We're thrilled that our birthday surprise added a special touch to your guest's celebration. We appreciate your honest feedback about the room rates and the shower drainage issue in room 604. We would like to update you that, upon your departure, our housekeeper found a rock blocking the drainage, which they have already managed to fix. Our team will monitor it closely to avoid future inconveniences. We value your feedback and will continue striving to provide an exceptional experience for all our guests. We look forward to welcoming you back to Onsen@Moncham and hope to earn that 5-star rating from you during your next visit. Warm regards, Ryokan Onsen@Moncham

Relax, Japanese-style stays, living a slow life
Dive into nature’s mineral onsen in the middle of a valley
Grand Tatami Onsen Suite
Located on the bottom floor of this building, the rooms are extremely Japanese.
The interior is 80 square meters wide.
Open the door to meet the Japanese Garden, the living corner.
Enter the room as a table, a mini bar corner.
Next up are the living room and bedroom.
It’s covered in traditional tatami.
Plus, a closet, smart TV.
The bathroom section is well separated.
There''s a Japanese-style toilet, front bathtub, shower.
The specialty of this room is the onsen tub.
A soothing hot tub—it’s got wooden doors.
which opens a view of the Japanese Garden.
In between hot baths, the atmosphere was very nice.

Its onsen is natural mineral water.
Essential minerals—these natural nutrients
It helps rejuvenate the mind.
Plus, there’s no sulphur smell.
Now onsen has many areas outside as a plunge.
- onsen in the garden is a newly opened zone.
This zone includes swimsuit pools.
- onsen First Zone This zone has less heat than the new side.
Separate the men and women when onsen is all about relaxation.
Body relaxation is great.

Mi | Zü Main Dining Room, from morning to evening
Breakfast is a buffet, with a full menu, and a la carte order is unlimited from the menu.
Love breakfast here, good quality, hot plates per plate.
Other meals highlight Japanese dishes like sushi, sushi,
Nabe, Suki, Shabu, Shun, and Kaiseki are traditional Japanese courses.

It’s a favorite resort, as each year it adds sections.

Stayed here in April, amazed at the effort to recreate the authenticity of a Japanese onsen ryokan. From the raised platform tatami floored rooms with mochi & tea set, the yukata for guests to wear in the resort, the exquisite gardens with carp-filled streams, ponds, flocks of mandarina ducks, to the hot spring onsen itself with indoor & outdoor sections.
The mineral water is pumped up from beneath the resort.
We got the room with a private onsen bathtub on the terrace. But the public onsen is better.
Breakfast is a Japanese set with buffet of side dishes.
Staff were very helpful and friendly, especially with photo taking.
In April the weather at night was chilly, around below 20C, but the staff said it can go down to 7-8 C during the cold season.
Mon Cham is about an hour's drive from down town Chiang Mai.

This place is a true gem for the ones that want to relax and heal in the middle of the nature. The rooms are spacious and designed like in Japan. We were hosted with homemade sweets (macha biscuits, OMG!) and an exquisite Japanese tea that became my obsession. The delightful scents of the soaps and products are simply addictive. Each day, we were treated to fresh pyjamas and kimonos, enhancing the luxurious experience. The breakfast is “à la carte” and very eclectic. I recommend the chicken tariaki and the pancakes! Nam (the hotel manager) and her team are lovely and very professional; we quickly felt home. The massage that we got was exceptional, arguably one of the best I’ve ever had. The Onsen was really peaceful, it was my first time and I liked it. I really recommend this enchanting retreat and will definitely return. Don’t miss the five-course dinner paired with sake, it was a culinary delight!

This was one of my favorite resorts in Chiang Mai that my husband and family stayed. The staff is so kind and professional. The check in process was smooth and I loved the welcome gift and tea they provided as well as the treats they left in our room while we were out. The Japanese aesthetic is so beautiful against the mountain backdrop and surrounding farms of northern Thailand. I really felt like this resort paid respectful tribute to Japanese culture especially in the cuisine. My husband is a chef and we were blown away by how tasty and accurate each dish created was from the miso soup and sushi to the lamb shank over mashed potatoes. The culinary team at Onsen at Moncham are truly masters of their craft. Last, I loved the private dual-gender onsen experience and appreciated that upon check in, the staff helped you book your bath and dinner immediately. The only complaint I have is there were quite a bit of mosquitoes in our room. I think the screen doors may have gaps between them that these little guys can come through. In the evening they were really nibbling at us. Overall, it wasn’t a deal breaker and I cannot wait to return to this gem.

Some 45 minutes drive from the airport in the hills above Chiang Mai, you'll find Onsen at Moncham. Very friendly staff - one minute they are waiters, then gardeners and then concierge - and a setting that is stunning and good for the soul in equal measure. The nod to Japanese culture doesn't stop with the natural spring onsen baths, with the accommodation and food also paying suitable homage. An ideal location to unwind for two or three days.

Breakfast’s raw material is of high quality but certain choices are not available. In turn, dinner’s 2.5k beef comes in as ordinary quality with extraordinary price.

Resort is mostly man-built so it lacks of natural beauty. Service and room are worth visit but the restaurant part makes the stay not worth 7k per night.

Onsen at Moncham is your first choice if you want to experience Japanese culture and don’t have much time to visit Japan. The onsen is very relaxing and very well managed. The onsen staff are very helpful and knowledgable regarding how to use the onsen properly. The food here is very tasty both Japanese and international cuisines, don’t miss your breakfast time!

The room decorated in Japanese styleis very cozy and relaxing. The bed is the best ever! We also received a welcome homemade Japanese desert in room upon arrival, very impressive!
