The cottage was smaller than we thought on booking - but more than big enough for a weekend away. The cottage was well set out and view was great. It is a short walk to the local cafe, and 5 minutes from Huskisson.

Cottage #1 had the ocean view from every window!

We visited the area to the south of Sydney during a recent round the world trip and found some excellent luxury guest accommodation in both Jervis Bay and nearby Kangaroo Valley. This property was of particularly high quality and merits special mention.

Hyams Beach Seaside Cottages comprise 6 delightfully restored fisherman's cottages which date from the 1920s. The 6 are aligned in a staggered row so that each has an outlook from its verandah towards the adjacent beach. The setting is delightful and much enriched by the abundant birdlife that fills every daylight hour with enchanting calls & song. During our visit (Dec 05) we were visited by a variety of rosellas, parakeets and parrots all eager to make our acquaintance.

The cottages themselves are delightfully decorated in pastel colours, well equipped and very comfortable. They are reasonably spacious and light and airy. The quality of the fittings and furniture is high. Overall, an excellent choice for any couple looking for self-contained accommodation with the added option of being able to self-cater. Without hesitation, this property merits a 5 Star rating and is particularly good value for money.

This place is one of a kind. We have stayed here twice now and will return for a third time.
We originally stayed here at the end of our honeymoon last September so it was too chilly for swimming. However, we had the little gas fire heater going and relaxed, read, feed the birds and ATE! The Cafe down the road has the best selection of deli meals and food I have even seen, don't judge a book by it's cover, try the lentil burger, my fav!
They are only open til 3 pm in winter but longer in summer.
The last time we stayed was in March or April this year (can't quite remember), I had horrendous morning sickness but still managed to eat half the cafe! This time we got to swim in the famous Hyams beach waters, whitest sand in the world.

The cottages - are exceptional in everyway, as you can see from my photos, they are unique and have a long history. They are so beautifully presented and are pretty private as they all jut out just a little bit further than the last so you don't look right into someone else's balcony. You can have the spa rooms or the standard rooms, we have stayed in both and are identical except for the bathroom design and color theme.
Please, if you get a chance, stay here.

Excellent location, cute old world charm and nicely decorated, but a bit underwhelming in terms of amenities (just what are you supposed to do with a microwave in a room without any other cooking facilities?). Bar fridge only .

If you’re a fan of fresh air, then don’t stay here. The cottages are quaint but it turns out that means tiny windows that don’t all open. Nearly impossible to get a decent breeze through and with neither door having a fly screen so it was a choice of stuffy air or letting the mozzies in.

I understand it’s difficult when you’re working with a historic building so air conditioning and kitchens are probably an impossibility.

Did I have a good time? Yes.

Do I wish I’d researched more thoroughly and found somewhere with a decent kitchen and aircon? Yes.

It was a pleasant stay, and I loved the history, but it’s really only suitable for one or two nights at the most.

We paid $260 for one night, mid-week and not in a school holiday period. On arrival we made a phone call to locate the management and then we received our check-in instructions over the phone. We could have Room 1 or Room 7. Room 1 is right at the front and 7 is right at the back. The code we were given to have a look at Room 7 didn't work so we opted for Room 1 which was open and the only room that didn't have a view of the cottage in front and had the plus of a sort of sea view from every room. Not so the other 6 cottages, which are packed together like sardines and appear to only have a view from their verandahs. We had heard so much about this place and were really looking forward to our stay but the reality was, frankly, a disappointment. We never saw a soul who represented this property during our stay and for a price of $260 a night that is just not good enough. The sign outside says luxury but for the life of us we searched high and low but found it was just missing in action. There's black tea or black tea, no welcome bottle of wine, no port or chocolates, no nice brand toiletries, no music system or iPod player, no napkins. There's a comfortable bed, a sofa, a small TV, a table and chairs, ceiling fans with lights in them and some pretty cheap blinds. The word luxury should be deleted from the sign outside. Quite frankly with a total lack of any personal service, no luxury inclusions or facilities we felt that we had been taken advantage of. The dream of the Seaside Cottages at wonderful Hyams Beach is, for us, now a sad and never to be repeated reality. However, the cafe up the road does great coffee!

OK, so the Aussie dollar has hit tough times and that for me means more Jervis Bay and less Hawaii. Do not despair, only a few hours out of Sydney is this absolute gem of a place nestled minutes away from Hyams Beach and next to its very own babbling brook. We loved every second of it. Forget the tortures of airport taxis, crippling exchange rates and flying economy and jump in the car, head south, and prepare to be enamoured. Can't wait to return.

I really hope that you have an opportunity to stay here.

Beautifully restored cottages ideal for couples. It has slight glimpse of the ocean but I wouldn't call it seaside. I found it to be overpriced and I would say the bed was the original from the 1920's because it was as hard as a rock.

I just had the utmost pleasure in reading the review at the top of the list for this site, by someone called from Sydney.... headed, COMFORTABLE, COSY AND CHARMING ....BUT NOT LUXURY...... Honestly what a talented comedian you are Tavare of Sydney.

I had the pleasure in spending the last 3 weeks in Honolulu, what beauty, from warm sun, afternoon sea breeze, perfect surf conditions, white sands and beautiful clear clean waters..... I thought to myself where in the world, can I repeat this experience of such perfectness.... So I thought ask Google, I wrote where in the world, can I find white sands, crystal calm waters, and safe clean environment....... Lordy Lordy behold what appeared Hyams Beach....

The words Hyams Beach was ranked by Guiness Book of Records as one of the whitest, cleanest beaches not only in Australia, but the world.... Due to its small population, and unprovoked environment by mankind.... The outcome allowed a perfect natural environment to remain on the planet... Meaning no luxury high rises, no luxury or what we think is the meaning of luxury anything, just perfect natural garden of Eden stuff there....

So I made a booking and visited, the cottages where as Tavare stated, was charming.... I think Cosy, clean beyond words to every corner of the cottage, perfectly spotless, all that a couple needed was provided....everything.....

Luxury is not a word I would have associated as missing with this site, because anyone from Sydney would I thought be able to separate luxury from luxurious...... The experience of Hyams Cottages and the service of its owners, is above, and beyond
Luxurious......

Show me a beach in Sydney where you gets treated so luxuriously by people like this..... From anyone with half a brain,
You wouldn't miss this place..... And if you want cold, materialistic luxury as Tavare states..... then stay in BORING SYDNEY.....

We were fortunate enough to recently stay at these seaside cottages for a refueling get away from the city. We were first struck by the quaintness of the cottages and the ocean view from both our window and balcony, followed by learning that they were equipped with all that we needed. A number of times each day we would sit on the balcony and watch the ocean and we were lucky enough one morning to see a pod of dolphins. As the beach is only across the road we ran down to see them at a close distance -amazing! In addition to the uniqueness of these cottages, (which were spotless) the staff were very warm and happy to share their local knowledge. Hoping to return sometime in the future. Highly recommend!

Wonderful cottages right across from the beach. Private and lovingly decorated. Was the perfect quiet time we needed. Good walks from the Cottages. Great local cafe and fantastic choice of restaurants at Huskisson.

No check in/out required. Saw no other guests the whole weekend.

Only suggestion would be a hamper could be a great inclusion.

Hi there, the cottages only have 1 queen bed per cottage, and the terms and conditions of stay state “maximum of two guests per room and adults only”. I’m pretty sure I read on their website it was kid-free. Perhaps check out the website or call to ask. Hope that helps
