Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom ocean view chalet. The place was very clean and tidy. Check in was professional and very quick
Full size fridge, microwave and separate bathroom and toilet.
Shampoo, soap and a hairdryer provided along with good sized towels
Large split system reverse cycle air conditioner in the living/dining room with fans in the bedrooms. Excellent for keeping the chalet at a comfortable temperature
All the crockery and cutlery with a gas hob needed to cook a meal if you wanted to. The bed and pillows were comfortable and extra blankets and pillows on top of the wardrobe should you need them
The large veranda at the front of the chalet overlooks the ocean and a great place to have dinner listening to the waves and watching the sunset.
Plenty of chairs provided
Could not recommend this place highly enough. Will definitely book here again when passing Dongara. It is a credit to the people managing it.

We have been coming to Port Denison for decades and first stopped at this park before the marina was built.

This time our stay is for four nights. We booked a cabin for the first night so that we could get an early start putting a new tent up in the morning, for the rest of our stay. However, on arriving we were emphatically told that we would have to leave the cabin and the park at 10:00 and check back in to our en-suite powered site at 14:00. This is the first park we have stayed in that has been so unhelpful. Fortunately, when we checked out at 10:00, we were told that we could return at 11:30 to put our tent up.

Later we asked if we could have a late checkout on the day we were due to leave and despite offering to pay a half day's
tariff were told we had to pay for an extra full day. We paid the extra $50 and checked out at 11:20. I.e. $50 for leaving 80 minutes late!!

The bedside lamp wasn't working in our cabin, but apart from that, the cabin was clean and comfortable. It had a bedroom with a double bed, four bunk beds, a bathroom/toilet with basic toiletries (but no tissues).

When we got to our on-site powered site, the en-suite was clean, had towels and basic toiletries. It also had a small store room which, after we swept it out, was ok to put our portable fridges in (It had a double 10 amp power point) and was lockable.

Sites were grassed with concrete pads.

The BBQ shed light comes on at 19:00, but it doesn't have a sink and the fridge is locked, so you can't store your drinks. However, there is also a camp kitchen with sinks, a BBQ, lounges and a tv.

This is our second stay at this lovely little caravan park and our first with our new van. It has the greatest beach front location and when I say beach front you can't get any closer. Only a path separates the park from the beach and the views at sunset are to die for. Van sites are shaded and lawned. Bathrooms are very clean, staff friendly and the free pancakes on a Sunday a surprise bonus. Nice pancakes as well!!. We'll be back.

We loved out short stay here! We stayed with a caravan in an ensuite site - the whole park was clean, well presented and the staff are LOVELY. It was such a treat to have an ensuite site after staying in parks up north with shared amenities.

It's located right on the beach and only a short walk to some great cafes and the best pub in town - Southerly's. We stayed in July and the beach was a bit rough but the Port side is lovely calm and shallow thanks to the harbour. Would be fantastic in summer.

There is a small park on the foreshore and plenty more along the waterfront.

We will definitely be back to stay here!

We haven’t stayed in many caravan parks previously as generally stay Airbnb’s but as friends had a caravan we decided to book a Studio cabin for the two of us with our friends in their van directly behind us. The studio cabin was perfect for us, very clean, comfortable bed and certainly roomy enough for the two of us with all mod cons except an oven, but didn’t need one for our 5 night stay. But it had a 4 burner cook top and microwave. We had ocean views as very close to the water which was great.
Probably only issue was the aircond was in the open lounge kitchen area so got a bit warm at night, thankfully the temperature wasn’t too hot so not that uncomfortable, but with temps getting to high 30’s it would be very warm in bed at night. An overhead ceiling fan would be perfect for the bedroom and not a big expense to install.
Overall a fabulous 5 night stay. Would definitely stay again.

Thank you for your review Rozmcperth, we are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us, it is a great suggestion regarding the ceiling fan as they are actually in all the bedrooms of the Waterfront chalets. We hope to see you again in the near future.

Our very well appointed cabin was a short walk from the beach and there was a cooling breeze all night. Everything we needed was supplied with the bonus of free pancakes on Sunday morning !
Next time we stay we will opt for a water front chalet for a bit of luxury.
Staff very friendly and helpful.

We stayed for 4 days and were lucky with the weather. But no matter what the weather, the view was amazing. I have mobility issues, but it was just a short walk to a very safe beach and I enjoyed several swims each day. The beach house was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Fantastic accommodation option for anyone heading to Dongara or beyond.
Stayed two nights for work in beach front chalet. The room was equipped with everything needed. Furniture isn’t flash, but it’s comfy and clean and does the job for where it is. Kitchenette has microwave and stove, fridge etc.

When they say beach front chalet, they mean beach front. Sounds of ocean constant soundtrack to your stay. The park has diff options - caravan sites, family sized chalets, dogs allowed at managers discretion (including some chalets, just a small cleaning charge added). Bbq facilities. A short walk to playgrounds for kids, coastal path for the walkers, short walk to pub/restaurant. Everyone very friendly.

Definitely a great option.

I know the region is very windy. Are your sites sheltered from the wind?
Answer from RoxyGirlPerth
Perth59 contributions45 helpful votes
Hi, the sites at Big4 Dongara are sheltered from the wind behind the cabins. I would strongly suggest you ask for a northern end bay as this will be more protected. I took an ensuite site with my camper trailer and was almost blown off the park but I had no barrier from 50knot winds. Check with the staff at the park for the most sheltered sites.

No, the crayfish plant is no longer in production, the only noise you will hear is the sound of the waves and people enjoying themselves. Manager Dongara Denison Beach Holiday PArk

how far away from the cruise ship docking port is this trip
Answer from SadSandy
Western Australia, Australia29 contributions11 helpful votes
Hello, welcome to the mid-west. With regard to coming to Dongara, it is a 35 minute car trip from Geraldton. As Peter D answered it is 4hrs from Perth but I would assume you are docking in Geraldton. Well worth the trip to Dongara, smaller than Geraldton but just as picturesque! Hope this is useful to you and that you enjoy your stay, regards SadSandy.
