I spent two weeks here.
My room was very comfortable, the bed and pillows were great and the room was a fair size. There was a mini fridge in my room with three bottles of filtered water and two bottles of Coke Zero. The water bottles were replenished every day and there are water dispensers available so you can refill your own bottle.

Breakfast is from 7am - 10am so you are not under pressure to wake up early. Also, if you want housekeeping to do your room a bit later you can keep the do not disturb sign on until 3pm - that is to say, switch it off before 3pm if you want your room to be cleaned.

I don’t know how to describe breakfast. It’s SO good. From cereal, overnight oats, yogurt. Pot noodles, a chicken dish with rice, soup, boiled and scrambled eggs, baked vegetables, fruit and good coffee machines. I am quite sure that I have left a few things out. (Like various types of bread, three types of jam and chocolate spread) There is definitely more.

Most importantly the staff are outstandingly friendly and helpful. I was made to feel very much at home. The front desk will assist with taxis, laundry and all of your queries about Chiang Mai.

The swimming pool is lovely and larger than it seems in photos.

The room was very clean and housekeeping cleaned the room everyday. There was a mini fridge with water and coke zero foc. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The location and environment of the hotel makes me felt safe as a solo traveller. Coffee, tea and water were available for guests at all times of the day at the pantry. Breakfast was superb, with a wide variety of choices and are very delicious. There were basic amenities like toothbrush, toothpaste, bath gel, shampoo, shower cap and slippers. Its good value for money and I enjoyed coming back to a clean room everyday.

We really enjoyed our stay at Por Thapae Gate while in Chiang Mai! The hotel was very modern yet surrounded by historic sites. The location is unbeatable—just a short walk to hundreds of restaurants and top attractions, yet it’s tucked back from the road, so you don’t hear any traffic noise.
The not to be missed Sunday night market was just steps from the hotel.
A special shout-out to Bumbim, who went above and beyond during our visit. She always remembered what we had done and would ask how it went, making us feel genuinely cared for. She spent a lot of time helping us navigate the area and provided fantastic recommendations.
Also a big plus for us was all the free fruit offered throughout the day. We loved the passion fruit!

So glad we booked our stay at the POR Thapae Gate hotel for our recent week long visit to Northern Thailand. The location is close to the center of action in the city but quiet. The rooms were clean, comfortable; the amenities were substantial and the staff was helpful, gracious, and brought a degree of Thai hospitality

Things we loved:
* Staff who greeted us every time we came into the lobby with a Thai greeting.
They were so helpful with info on local temples, restaurants, things to do… going above just info and each time pulling up the computer map to show us exactly where to go with suggestions on what to do. They also helped us book a great driver to visit Doi Suthep and also our ride home to the Airport.

* We were greeted each morning with Thai greetings from the staff and a Lucious breakfast. It began with great coffee with an incredible buffet of hot and cold foods… from the fresh fruits and breads to the 6+ hot items. We loved that you included local dishes like satays and Northern Sausage as well as the daily Thai soup and the featured warm Thai dish with rice. Honestly some of our best meals in Thailand were at the hotel for breakfast.

* Fresh bottled water available 24 hours a day in the lobby and thru Water dispensers on every floor (Cold, fresh (room temperature), and hot).

* Rooms that were well appointed with sufficient power outlets, lighting and efficient air-conditioning. Also enjoying the option of the balcony with screen for fresh air in the morning and evening.

* A saltwater pool that was refreshing for a dip and lovely to sit around for breakfast and in the evening.

* As mentioned before, a location that was central to a lot of desirable Chiang Mai attractions but down an alley that provided a quiet place to sleep.

* Again - your staff. So accommodating and welcoming!

From the moment that we walked in the door to be greeted by Daniel, we knew that we were on a winner. Por Thapae Gate is a smaller Boutique style hotel in a quiet yet convenient location close to everything that a traveller needs.
All of the staff are polite, friendly and nothing was a trouble for them. We must include a big THANK YOU to the beautiful Emma who greeted us each and every day with just the biggest smile and also Noey, without her help communicating on several occasions we'd have been in a bit of trouble.
We are planning a return trip next year, so Daniel you can expect to hear from us very soon.

I would consider POR as a true home away from home. Excellent breakfast with good variety of local and Western dishes and there are attempts to refresh some of the dishes each day to bring some variety. All dishes felt like home-made. Excellent service by the crew in giving suggestions and making us feel at home. Whenever we need help eg the mattress needed to be changed, our need is being looked into almost immediately. Same goes for our TV as we were to trying to get some of the channels working. Excellent Wi-Fi throughout. All efforts geared towards sustainability is very much appreciated eg glass bottles with bottomless refills, not only at the pantry but also on each floor. Trash is being sorted both in common areas and in our room. Location of the hotel is excellent; it is so central yet so hidden hence it is not noisy at all. One added plus point is the famous Chiang Mai Sunday Market is right at the door step! After surveying the most popular souvenir items eg elephant soft toys, elephant pants etc., the cheapest can be obtained from this very market! POR is also very close to many eateries and two of the most famous temples in the Old City is within walking distance from the hotel ie Wat Chedi Luang and Wat Phra Singh.
Disliked · The beds need to be upgraded to a more supportive mattress than currently used.

It is very well located and the price-quality ratio is excellent. Super friendly staff. Very natural and varied breakfast. Great. The room may be a little tight in size but very new, comfortable bed, very good bathroom. What I have appreciated most apart from the excellent treatment is how well thought out everything is, with a lot of environmentally friendly detail, hot and cold water sources on all floors, the quality of everything. Very good, I recommend it.

Absolutely a fantastic hotel. One of the best hotels I have ever stayed. I stayed here for 5 nights for my Chiang Mai trip. The hotel offered breakfast, all I want to drink water/coke zero, snack/fruits available all day long, a swimming pool, a quite room. The location has a easy access to many of the markets/night markets within 15+ minutes, which was great for exercise and sightseeing. The staff was very welcoming with nice smiles. I requested a taxi to be called for the ride to the airport and the driver was already at the reception 10 minutes before the requested time. I am grateful for the hospitality.

We were greeted by very enthusiastic front desk who went out of the way to make us feel welcome. Room is clean and all necessary toiletries are provided. Breakfast spread is small but delicious. Hotel provides a wide variety of local fruits. Drinks are free and available round the clock. The only area for improvement is the shower screen and curtain which are too small and short, causing the shower water to wet the toilet floor. Other than the shower, it would have been a perfect stay. Location near Thapae gate is great, with many restaurants and cafes just outside the hotel. Highly recommended.

It is a small hotel with real boutique feel. Well located, extremely attentive service, comparing (better) than many 5* properties.

Room is spotless, breakfast is smart variety of tasty food and location is very central to have most of Chang Mai on walking distance.
