The previous review tells the most important points, except the very fine cuisine made by Laurent, the exhilarating laughs of Christelle his wife, and the general friendly atmosphere of the whole station. Yes, the toilet/shower installation is tiny, but the double bed is large and comfortable, the small climatic station of Thorenc is ideally located, and we stayed three full days for enjoying all that and get our first full rest for many months.
Coming from Grasse (S, via SE) we drove and drove before seeing ANYWHERE to stay. The next town had one auberge, but it was very, very poor quality and the owner actually recommended this place to us. Thorenc is a ski town during the season; and this is a ski hotel--for when you'll be out most of the time and want to stay cheap. The room was tiny and outdated, with a pre-fab plastic toilet/shower installation that made it crowded; BUT it did have a good sized flat-screen tv with enough stations to entertain us while we picnic-ed since the town was absolutely dead. Plus, there was absolute silence, without any other guests, so we slept well, and nothing to detract us from getting an early start the next day. At fifty euro for a double, we couldn't have asked for more. There is a restaurant downstairs, which I guess is actually the focus of the couple running the place; but we didn't try it. It smelled great, and the menu seemed nice; but we weren't up for another multiple-course French meal at the time. I would only stay there again if,as this time, it was getting dark and we couldn't drive on to Castellane.…
