Listen, I'm a man of creature comforts. I like my wifi on tap, enjoy AC, and fresh smelling linen. I like a bit of atmosphere in the dining room or a bar. With this place you don't get it, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, depending on what you're looking for. The hostel seems to have been made from an...

Community Cooperative, ranch style place. Your money goes to the local farming families. Basic little rooms and shared communal bathroom for the cheap doubles and dorms. You can camp or bring a hammock. Meals and beers are well priced (by hotel standards). Views are truly spectacular. The people are lovely. It's a decent walk up the hill from the road...

We went there for the views and a small bite. The place was almost empty, no guests. The atmosphere puts you back into the 30's of last century and you can imagine how the internacionalistas came here to pick coffee after the revolution, sleep and dream about a new world in which we are all equal. Nowadays the place has...

Pros: good view of Volcan Concepcion from the second floor main area, hikes to Maderas leave right from here Cons: very very run down. Probably used to be an awesome backpacker Mecca but the place is serious disrepair. Way to overpriced for the accommodations. Went and stayed in Santo Domingo for $10 more a night for a room that felt...

While the setting for this place is beautiful, it's one of the most run-down places I've ever stayed. It's pretty much fallen into disrepair. There is no privacy for the private rooms (huge gaps under & above the 'walls' & the bathroom is disgusting (dirty & crumbling). Food is ok but expensive . Come here for the view but don't...

We stayed here for three nights on Ometepe. The setting is beautiful, in amongst the coffee plantations on the slopes of Volcan Maderas. The rooms and bathrooms are very basic, but also very cheap. There is a restaurant on site serving really good food, but it is a touch expensive. It is also difficult to get to/from, but this is...

We booked the private room last minute as we couldn't find a room elsewhere on the island, the room was verrrry basic, it was $55/night with dinner, so pricey considering. Dinner was reasonable but it turned out to be the only dodgy meal we had the whole trip to nicaragua... The co-op projects and the farm are brilliant and it...

5 of 5 for hiking. 2 of 5 for accommodations. Went for a hike on the volcano, then lunch. The hike is pretty much uphill the entire way, but it is very nice. Not much to see of the coffee plantation, but the jungle was nice with cool birds and monkeys. Great petroglyphs. Lunch was good. Had a chicken soup...

An oasis inside an oasis Finca Magdalena is the most beautiful place I saw in the island. All in all Ometepe is extremely unique and beautiful island. I stayed a couple of nights on the side of Altagracia, switches to Zopilote and finally to Finca Magdalena. Finca Magdalena was astonishing. You arrive it by taking a 15-min walk uphill-ish from...

The staff at Finca Magdalena were universally helpful and friendly. The meals were well prepared and reasonable. The coffee was excellent and the beer cold and inexpensive. There were howler monkeys in the forest nearby to wake you up if the rooster did not and a flock of turkeys kept me entertained for awhile when they would return my gobble...
