My visit to Mungo was fantastic - from being welcomed at the check-in, to being able to feed the hand reared emus, to joining the sunset tour and enjoying a lovely meal afterwards, the experience was amazing. Fair warning, you need to be comfortable driving on dirt roads - but it makes the experience that much more satisfactory. The glamping set-up was gorgeous too!

We booked a comfortable cabin (#14) at the lodge for two nights, and even though our stay was cut short due to impending bad weather, we still had a great time. We were fortunate to be able to go on the sunset tour with Ash, despite the drizzle. Even though there was heavy cloud cover, the different colours of the Walls of China and the formations themselves were spectacular. It is definitely worth doing the tour as one can only wander across the lunette itself in the presence of a guide, otherwise you have to be content with the viewing platform which is some way off. The information is also more detailed with a guide. The rooms are comfortable, if not a little dated (although I believe they are due for an upgrade) and everything is sustainable and eco driven. We were really surprised by the quality of the food (do not miss ordering the warm crumbly home-made damper with native spices and dukkah!), and the staff were some of the friendliest and most welcoming we had met. We also made use of the camp kitchen to prepare our lunch while waiting for our room to be ready, which was really handy. I would definitely recommend a two-night stay as a day visit would be rushed, and with a two night stay you double your chance of staying should the weather force a cancellation. These cancellations are not the fault of the resort--they cannot risk having guests being stuck at the resort as the 80km off road track turns to sticky clay during heavy rain. They give you a short amount of notice as they will do everything they can to avoid shutting the resort, so they wait for the latest weather update before making that hard decision. Even though the resort closed on the second day they said we could still explore the park for a few more hours before heading out. This enabled us to drive to Zanci homestead, Mungo Lookout and the spectacular Red Rock Lookout which is a boardwalk set amongst the dunes themselves. The rain meant we could not do any of the walks but it was pretty amazing having the park to ourselves as I am fairly sure we were the last to leave! Note: There is no Internet connection unless you have Telstra as your carrier. No hairdryers in the room but you can borrow one from reception. You can hand-feed the tame emus.

If remotely interested in Australian history, geography, and unique scenery this is a must do experience. Staff are super friendly and helpful, accommodation is excellent, especially given the semi remote location, and the restaurant is lovely with reasonable pricing.

Our planned July trip was cancelled because of rain. The dirt access road becomes impassable. Our actual trip in November was cut short because rain was forecast. We were given 3 hours to pack up and leave by 3pm. Checking the weather report the following day, the rain hadn't started.
