Feel compelled to write my first review for tripadvisor simply because the reviews below don't convey what The Phelips Arms is now like. PROS 1. Superb location - Montacute is idyllic, beautiful walks on your doorstep and the B&B is situated right at its centre. 2. Reasonably priced food - except the breakfast. 3. Good beer. 4. Warm welcome on...

I recently had the occasion to lead a walking group in Somerset and this pub featured as the lunch spot on th first walk. I rang in advance as we were 17 and asked if they could do this hunger , giving an approx time of arrival. The landlady was extremely helpful, not a problem even after I said we...

Again another brewery has invested time and money to exploit an historic and attractive old building. Accommodation was roomy, well decorated and clean. As a real ale fan, Palmers brewery of Salisbury whose property this is, have left the catering in the hands of tenants Andy and Nicky who work hard to exploit the atmosphere here. Yes, it is not...

When you have a table booked for 12 noon Sunday carvery lunch, don't arrive ten minutes early or you may be subjected to the same welcome that we received. Although the sign on the entrance door said "Open", the landlady told us they were closed and were still laying up tables. When I asked if we could sit down to...

Just had an amazing carvery at the 12pm sitting. Lovely welcome from staff, table waiter service was a nice touch. Food from the carvery was well presented and plentiful. Lovely pub and easy parking in a beautiful village.

I will start by saying that my parents bought this little pub around 32 years ago. It was 2 bars then with bikers filling the back bar area and not many locals wanting to frequent the front. I have not been to the pub again until this week. I was really taken aback by what an amazing transformation had taken...

Never been to this pub before, but had booked a small family group for a Sunday lunch. Two sittings - 12pm one full, so we booked for the 2pm sitting. BIG mistake! All the food had obviously been cooked in time for the first sitting and - as we were told - had been "kept back" for the later bookings....

Called in with our two dogs for a bite to eat. Made to feel very welcome and landlord friendly. Dogs given treats! Food was pretty good and reasonably well priced. We were each unexpectedly given a free pint due to the wait for our food (only 25 mins, hadn't complained and weren't worried as we were not in a rush)....
