Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The accommodations are pretty basic (dorm bunks, 5 min showers and toilets without handles) but orisson is more than the accommodations. As a first stay to meet your Camino de Santiago community and family, the drinks on the deck and the communal dinner are invaluable—as is breaking up the distance to Roncesvalles. Definitely recommend a stay here to meet other pilgrims. Though I don’t eat pork, the soup and beans were phenomenal—dinner was a highlight.

The only place we could find to stop on our walk across the Pyrenees. The family that run it were great, very helpful. The communal meal was a great start to our Camino journey. Our dormitory has 5 women and a man, next door were 5 men and a woman. Great views before the fog came down!

if you are questioning stopping here or moving on to start your Camino journey, for sure stay here a night. It is a beautiful location in the hills that you cannot experience any other way. The staff here is attentive, kind & knows how to take care of local travelers. It is an Albuerge & not a fancy hotel. You will share a room with others, but the views, quiet & experience will be worth it. They serve an evening meal that is family style & well done. Although the best part is always the wine & conversations that you cannot replicate anywhere in the world. Thank you for serving pilgrims- you are a true gem in this world & I look forward to returning for a third time & more. :)

The location is spectacular, and this is almost there only option for a pause on the way from St Jean to Roncevalles. The staff is very busy all day catering to the passing crowd of pilgrims. As a consequence little attention is paid to people staying there for the night. Prices are correspondingly high for the quality and quantity of food you get. A 3 euro drink gets you a scant 6oz of soft beverage. A 5 euro sandwich gets you a naked piece of baguette with cheese or ham with nothing else in it.
For those staying in the gite, dinner and breakfast are a bit more generous. Facilities are clean and rooms are standard albergue style with bunk beds. The dinner is communal with people introducing themselves and sharing their thoughts of the Camino. It is a good way for people to get to know each other.
Overall, the place is a convenient, but expensive, place to break the stage to Roncevalles. It feels impersonal though and the owners seem to care more about profits than the customers. Which is too bad as it is usually the first stop for pilgrims starting is St Jean.

Commercial ?? Allez Bon chemin !

I stayed at refuge Orisson in may 22 whilst walking the Camino Frances route of the Camino de Santiago.

Bunk bed style accommodation which I expected on the Camino and an amazing dinner experience.

The beds were clean and comfy and the washrooms were clean as well. Showers run by a coin operated system.

The dinner was fabulous with over 60 pilgrims eating and chatting. Every pilgrim even gets a chance to tell their story to the other pilgrims. A great way to start the walk over the Pyrenees

I would recommend staying here

Mark

This was the BEST way to begin my camino: a short ( albeit steep) walk, a cold beer with a view, a warm welcome, comfortable beds, and delish home cooked food. Over dinner, the owners encouraged us to share our names and countries, and every once in a while along the Way, I would hear someone call out my name, or "Canada!" I felt that my first albergue set the wonderful tone for my entire walk. Merci beaucoup, les amis à Orisson!

Cars go your way Pilgrims think...

Woe to us this day!
A furious she-devil wanted to teach us a lesson, because our guide on the Camino de Santiago dared to put our faithful modern-day team in the parking lot of her inn to buy us our pittance on our walking route!!!
She didn't see the badly placed sign for the pound.
Is it really legal, Ms. La Diablesse, to post this kind of sign! Even if you claim to be on private property and argue that you are threatening to call the said nasty pound, who by the way will be right to send you for a walk given the distance you have to take to come and load this ugly steed lying on the track public! By the way, your signs are not legal highway code signs, it's up to you to go back to your manuals "unless you are like these faithful Pilgrims always on foot and without a driving license!
Your reflection was entirely legitimate "Madame", but when you serve in an establishment such as yours, would it not have been judicious and respectable to address yourself with fairness and politeness to the "Naughty Ruffians" who have monopolized your parking space so precious on the Camino de Compostela... it is true used by thousands of walkers, but will you also tell me by so many steel vehicles annoying for your business???!!!!
It is true that my coins left behind will leave me with a bitter taste from my visit, but without any resentment towards the cooks who prepared the sandwiches for me.
I would have learned from this lesson to plan never to stop at your Inn again, despite us Pilgrims on our route.

This place is magical. To be honest, at the beginning I almost walked past because I had a goal in mind: to walk across the Pyrenees in one day. I stopped for a drink and the hospitality and warmth there invited me to stay. The owner is such a wonderful person. I asked for a bed but unfortunately there was nothing left so I stayed there and just enjoyed the view and suddenly he came up to me and said someone had cancelled and I could stay here. And that was the greatest gift he could give me. The food there is great and the evening with all the people who are full of anticipation about the Camino is unbelievably beautiful. We were all asked why we were here and everyone had to tell their story and we immediately felt a connection with one another. And the sunrise in the middle of the mountains in hopefully good weather is incredible. I can only recommend that anyone who sets out on the route stop there. Buen camino.

I must say that I am very surprised by the negative reviews this refuge has received. I have never stayed here but did stop for lunch on the way to Roncesvalles in 2019. The staff here was extremely friendly, helpful and kind, the food was amazing and the vista, breathtaking.
I was due to stay overnight here this August and had booked same on their website. The website stated very clearly that the deposit was non-refundable ! Unfortunately due to an ankle injury I had to cancel my reservation. I did so and expected to lose my deposit. However, I received a lovely email wishing me well and advising me that my deposit had been refunded - which they were not obligated to do ! This is costumer service at its very best. Hopefully I will walk on the Camino next year and I will certainly be staying at this refuge. Thank you so much.

My husband and I were lucky enough to stay here on our Camino journey. From check in to check out these folks did a GREAT JOB! They are attentive to all who come through on their Camino journey. They deal with people from all over the world and manage to make you feel special. The service, food and facilities were all top notch! Thank you for everything!

I am traveling there in a couple of weeks myself and I have had luck reserving using the following contact info. Refuge (period) orisson (at) wanadoo (period) fr. Trip advisor wont allow the post of an email address so please forgive the strange 'coding' i had a problem with the first email I sent and then looked more carefully and realized i misspelled orisson with 2 r's instead of 2 s's. LOL. Anyway, best of luck. Buen Camino!

It seems to take a few days for them to answer, they are not real quick, plus he is probably super busy right not. I loved it there. You could try calling, they all speak English. People expect them to respond as a large hotel would, it just really isn't that way. Don't let it deter you, just a different life.
