Detailed Reviews
If you wanna spend some days far away from the Bali crowd Red Island Mojosurfcamp is the place to go. The transport was organised from Canggu by Mojosurf and took about 7 hours. The place is really peaceful, with the surfspot right at your door step. You can choose beetwen dorms rooms or private bungalows, with bathroom and AC. The camp has a swimming pool and some different spaces to relax, practise some yoga or socialise with the other guest. The local staff is super friendly and make sure everything is taken care of. Depending on your level you can book surf lessons or go free surfing. The local instructor Edo is ripping and was really helpful. The beachbreak is suitable for begginer or intermediate surfers. You can also book different trips in the area if you'd like to take a break from surfing. The 3 meals/day provided are delicious. I'd definitely come back to Red Island surf camp!

Wonderful place in Java to surf and relax! The people are super friendly, rooms are basic but clean and the pool is the best part to relax after surf. It’s the only place in the area with a pool so a very nice extra. Loved it, would definitely go again!

We have been there for nearly 10 days and we brought our own surf equipment with us. (We didn't book a course)
Very basic surf camp in a very local area. A surrounding where you find a no crowded line up, indonesian smiling people and wonderful sundowners. Mrs. Nurul is well organized, service orientated and we found that she is the heart & soul of this camp. The food is really good and the ladies in the kitchen are very nice. The bungalows itself are very basic without any comfort at all. ( little things like photos, paintings, towels, warm light, etc... maybe would help)

My partner and I stayed with Red Island Surf Camp for nine days. They picked us up in Bali and drove us to the camp as promised. This is a 7 hour drive in a comfortable van with soft racks.
The camp is very pretty with a lovely garden with a poolside deck where you can sit and watch the waves. The rooms were nice and the staff were friendly and helpful. There is yoga or day tours that you can do between surfs.
Breakfast , lunch and dinner are all taken care of. Breakfast was plain and simple and lunch was mostly wraps with different fillings every day. Dinner was chicken, rice, salads and vegetables, different every night. I enjoyed every thing I ate and it was all served on time by lovely hard working local ladies.
I rented a surf board and was reasonably happy with the choice I had.The surf is suitable for intermediate surfers and maybe beginners in the white water. I really enjoyed Red Island.Make sure you get to know a few locals. They have some interesting stories to tell and are great tour guides. On the last day we were dropped off back in Bali with out any dramas. This is a organized place.

We, a family of 4 with two boys aged 5 and 8, stayed 6 nights at at Red Island Surf Camp in July 2018. I'm writing this review as this is information I would have like to have had when deciding to book. I sent this feedback to the guy I booked through but no reply.
After researching options in Bali for kid-friendly boogie boarding and surfing, we booked Red Island Surf Camp based on the stated 5 to 6-hour transfer time with fast boat and private transport – and fun to go on a fast boat. We did think the cost was quite high at $1860 for the 6-night package, compared to other options in Bali, but we went for it anyway in the hope of a pretty special experience.
On 2 May we received an email from Mojo Surf about a fast boat departure time change. This time change did not bother us particularly, but I did find it pretty incredible that the sender of the email put all ‘valued guests’ email address in the ‘To’ field – really unprofessional and a breach of privacy for all concerned. I saw from other replies to this email that I was not the only one who was concerned about this. No apology or explanation came from Red Island about this slip-up.
The fast boat was subsequently cancelled and we had no option but to take the 8-hour overland transport both ways. This really changed things for us, as we have two young kids who found such a long car journey quite challenging. In fact one was carsick most of the way to Java thanks to the windy roads. If I had known that the journey would be 8 hours by car, I would have thought twice about booking. So although I understand this may have been out of Mojo Surf's control, this change did affect us significantly.
On the morning of our pick-up in Bali, we were out the front of our accommodation at 5.45am as requested. Our youngest son had been coughing all night, so it was tough to wake him in time for this rendezvous. The car was there in the car park but there was no sign of the driver. We waited, stress levels rising until after 6.30am, when Wayan appeared from down a side alley where he thought our accommodation was. This may not seem that bad, but during that 45 minutes, so early in the morning, no breakfast and a coughing kid, we had no way to contact Red Island or the driver to see what was going on – it was a stressful way to start the journey to Red Island.
We stopped in Medewi for breakfast. By the time we got to Red Island Surf Camp it was after 1pm Java time (2pm Bali time) and we were all really hungry and tired after the 8-hour car trip. Brody showed us to our bungalow, and when I said we were all hungry and ready for lunch, he said that lunch wasn’t included on the first day. I really couldn’t believe this, as originally – with the fast boat – we would have been due to arrive at 10.30am. Why pick us up so early if check-in is not until 2pm and lunch isn’t served to guests on their first day?? I think Brody could see we were a bit desperate, so he kindly allowed us to have lunch at the camp. When purchasing the ‘6-day package’ with ‘3 epic meals per day’ and Red Island organising our transport and knowing what time we would be arriving, it seemed a bit rough to be sparing over that first lunch. We did not feel like, as guests, we were particularly well looked after at the point on arrival.
The first morning we awoke at 3.45am to an incredibly loud series of Saturday morning calls to prayer that went for an hour – a cacophony of local mosques that was impossible to sleep through. Our kids woke up, of course, and could not go back to sleep. I’m not saying this is Red Island’s fault in any way! But if I had known this, or realised this would be the case, I would definitely have thought twice about booking this trip… By 7pm, when dinner was served, the boys were almost catatonic and unable to eat through sheer fatigue. Thankfully the morning prayers for the remaining 5 mornings we not quite as lively, but still the boys woke early and I’ve got to say the holiday for us adults was not exactly relaxing or peaceful.
If dinner was served earlier – even 6.30pm - it would be slightly easier for families with kids. We found ourselves really waiting for dinner from around 6pm as the kids were just so exhausted and needed to eat so they (and we!) could go to bed. Even other people without kids seemed to be waiting around for dinner from around 6pm.
We were aware the bungalow would be basic, but honestly for the price that this 6-night package cost us it was below our expectations. There was NO space to unpack anything from our bags and NO shelves to even put our bags on. It was nice that the double bed had a mosquito net, but what about the kids in bunks? In fact I shared the bunk with my younger son and when either of us so much as moved an arm or a leg, the other one could feel it vibrating through the bunk bed, such was the flimsy quality of its construction. I ended up having to put a mattress on the floor so that we could get some sleep without waking each other every time we moved. Again in the bathroom there was NO space to put any toiletries, and the shower being cold was killer. The evenings were really cool and the boys were too cold to have cold showers. Again, for the price of this 6 days at $1860 (plus extras of course), compared to other accommodation/activity options around the region it was really surprising and disappointing that there was only a cold shower.
The linen (on the double bed only, not the bunk beds) was changed the day before we checked out – I’m not sure why this would have been done with only one night to go. Our towels, however, by that stage were in need of changing and we would have preferred fresh towels to one clean sheet. Also it would have been great to have a broom so we could have swept the veranda daily ourselves to keep on top of the sand situation.
Other than this, the boys did enjoy themselves. The pool table was a hit. We loved the trip to Secret Beach. The surf lesson was good although the boys did get cold in the water after an hour or so. Apart from the initial problem with our pick-up, our driver was skillful, and he took us to a great local warung on the way back to Bali that was probably our best meal of the entire holiday. Overall, however, I wouldn’t recommend Red Island Surf Camp to friends unless they and their kids can sleep through any amount of noise and they are happy with the extremely basic accommodation for the price being charged.

I had been very excited about going to Red Island Surf Camp, and on the whole the experience was ok. The crew running the camp are welcoming, and the staff who cook the meals do a great job. The rooms are comfortable enough, and the air conditioning was a welcome addition. Unfortunately the two biggest swells to hit Indo arrived when I was there meaning the whole beach was a close out for three of the five days. The two days we could surf were average at best, Thats no ones fault, but there's nothing worse than not surfing on a surfing trip. The locals told us the wave hasn't really worked properly for months due to the local gold and copper mine stopping the flow of the river, and as a result wrecking the banks. In short it was was an interesting experience but i would look elsewhere.

Before I am getting too much into detail: I totally enjoyed staying at the camp. The days I spent there were among the best of my trip in Indo.
I was on the eight day Island Hopper surf trip organized by Mojo before I spontaneously decided to extend my stay in Red Island by another week.
The camp is perfectly located. You go to bed and wake up hearing the sound of the waves. The rooms are clean and beds comfortable. The common are well equipped: swimming pool, pool table, Beachvolleyball, yoga mats, bean bags and a bar with cold Bintangs 24/7. The buffet as well as the a la carte menu is great, my all time favorite though were the banana pancakes for breakfast!
The staff at the camp is very friendly, welcoming and super helpful. Brody, the camp manager and Louise, the Mojo surf guide, quickly sorted out my adjusted itinerary. The surf coaches were great and I learned a lot. Also, I highly enjoyed the daily yoga lessons with Alicia, either by the beach or at the camp.
While most people come for the surf, including me (which truely is amazing because it is just not crowded), there is so much more to do in the area: hiking, exploring secret beaches or simply playing Beachvolleyball with the locals or having a fresh coconut at the beach.
After more than 1,5 weeks I really felt at home and I will definitely return!

Not much more you need to know then it is epic. Great waves for all levels. Amazing people. Great food. Not sure you need much more. The massage was amazing too.

A super relaxing tropical paradise! I came for the surfing and spent five days here having surf lessons, swimming in the pool, relaxing in hammocks, going on sunset walks and playing pool.
The beach is stunning and ideal for sunset viewing. There is a good variety of food served on site- I couldn’t get enough of the banana and dragonfruit pancakes!
Accommodation was in a clean dorm-style room in Balinese style and had ensuite bathroom.
Special thanks to manager Brody, Ippy, surf coach Wahyu and the rest of the team for making my stay awesome! Would love to go back!
