Beautiful place but service very poor. Went in for a meal and having been told it was ok to sit where we were we were then told we could not as that area of the pub was reserved for locals?! The section we were in was and remained totally empty the entire evening. How insulting! Food took an age to...

We had no idea where we were headed with this one and initially ended up in Kings Lynn where we had a meal and then phoned the Berney Arms to get directions. There are just too many Church Roads in the Norfolk area:) Still once we arrived we were made very welcome and we were very pleasantly surprised with our...

Went for dinner mid week. As well as usually menu we chose from the "East" set menu which was available that day. this offered great value for money with excellent food. I had chicken satay followed by chicken korma. The portion was substantial but you didn't feel bloated unlike some other Indian meals: as well as being tasty the food...

We stayed here for a wedding nearby. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very nice indeed with a four poster bed and large bathroom, and breakfast was very good. We were allowed to sit drinking coffee and reading the papers for hours after we had finished our breakfast. A perfect stay.

Another lovely weekend away with the wife and the labradoodle. We had driven through this village a few times in the past but had never ventured in. This time we booked a dog friendly room for the Saturday night and headed off for a night away. We're so glad we chose the Berney Arms. We arrived around lunchtime and were...

Wonderful evening last night with friends. Booking was easy and professional. Staff throughout the evening were so friendly, nothing was too much trouble, customer service was excellent! Food was beyond delicious, atmosphere relaxed and friendly in both the bar and the lovely fine dining restaurant. A fantastic experience, I can't wait to go back. Well done!

This is a hidden gem. Lovely quiet surroundings. Great breakfast and comfy room. We were in a wonderful annex room. It's situated in a picturesque village. Easy enough to travel to other areas of Norfolk.

We had the Berney Arms recommended to us by a staff member at Oxborough Hall. Cannot thank her enough. The staff were so friendly and helpful especially Natalie. She chatted to us while we waited for our order which came in a very reasonable time. I chose the two courses for £12.50 which was very good value for quality food. My...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Set in the very quiet village, almost a hamlet, of Barton Bendish, between Downham Market & Swaffham, is The Berney Arms , previously known as The Spread Eagle under different ownership. The pub was closed in March of 2010 and reopened in August of 2010. We have 5 luxurious rooms all refurbished in 2013 all are en-suite, with either Super-king of King sized beds, individual patios with bright tables & chairs. There is a bar, restaurant and very spacious garden also with bright benches. The bar & restaurant serve food all day every day, and specialise in traditional afternoon teas. The menu is centered around local seasonal produce, such as venison from the Barton estate, and asparagus from a mile away, also proper free range eggs from the next village. We look forward to welcoming you. ... more   less
