We stayed for two nights and both my wife and i said we will be returning. We paid under £80 for the two night stay and i consider that an absolute bargain. What a lovely location, just 15 minutes drive from Lancaster. Set in beautiful surroundings we stayed in a family room which had a single room with massive bed,...

An ancient country house surrounded by free standing buildings offering a selection of two storey apartments or free standing bungalow houses, this is marketed as a “resort”, but should more properly considered self catering accomodation. Rooms (effectively self contained flatlets) are large, with separate well equipped kitchen and large bathroom. Rooms are clean on arrival, well appointed, and serviced at...

Just returned from a short break at thurnham hall with my parents and we had a fabulous time. The accommodation is absolutely fantastic with all the amenities you could possibly want. Stayed here for a night for work. The hotel was in a lovely location and the suites were well decorated with everything you need, the fresh filter coffee was a nice touch. Dined in the restaurant which was fantastic and drinks reasonably priced. My only complaint is they don't start breakfast until 9am, not good for business stays

Oh I should of brought my swim wear. I thought by the photos it was possibly just for spa set, how wrong. It is situated...

We have stayed here a couple of times and the rooms are spacious and clean, the setting is wonderful in beautiful countryside. The main building is steeped in history and although it can be a bit drafty near the main door the staff are welcoming and attentive .The food is of a high quality and even the bar snacks are...

This was our first visit to Thurnham Hall and we found it to be in a great location, being lovely and quiet, all the usual Diamond facilities and the apartment was excellent. The staff are friendly and helpful ( as usual ) we had #29 and it was full of home comforts. The leisure complex is very good, but Corey,...

The Thurnam hall is in a stunning setting, in the beautiful countryside. The grounds are well maintained & the buildings are historic. We were a little surprised at the cost of the extras, one of reasons we chose to stay was the pool & gym however on check in we found that it cost £15 per room per day. I...

We stayed at Thurnham Hall for 2 nights 'including breakfast', purchased through Buyagift. The actual self-catering apartment was lovely and we naturally attended for breakfast. However, on the day of leaving, we were asked to pay for breakfast. I commented that this was inclusive in the price and was told that a breakfast pack in the fridge is what I...

Bristol, United Kingdom

Hi, I just wondered if you actually stayed at the same Thurnham Hall as me, and my family! We go once a year to Thurnham for a week long holiday, usually around Christmas time, but these days, always in the winter. We go in the winter as there really is nothing better than sitting in the 'Great Hall' in front of the gorgeous and atmospheric enormous log fire. There is a welcoming bar in the Hall, which hardly ever gets noisy (except for the occasional times when they are having a Christmas firm's do in the library next door, or a wedding reception), and it is very much in keeping with the rest of house. This means that you can snuggle up in one of their comfy armchairs, with your favourite book, and your tipple of choice (red wine for me, followed by a cup of coffee), and chat to other guests if you like, or just hunker down, on your own, or with your family (one recommendation that I would make, is that if you have children, particularly youngsters, you may prefer to holiday in another Diamond Resort, particularly "Pine Lake", North of Lancaster, - it is nearer the lake district, but as you are not far from the M6 at either place, it doesn't take long to get to the lakes anyway, - Pine Lake is at Carnforth, {of Brief Encounter fame} and is more set up for young children, with a good indoor play area, especially for them, plus the usual swimming pool, playground, ducks! etc). Once or twice a week, in the Hall, there is a pianist, and it is lovely to sit back, whilst feeling toasty warm in front of the fire, and listen to the lovely music he plays. I cannot imagine what room, or apartment, that you were staying in, as I have never come across accommodation here that is not only very comfortable, but also extremely clean (whether in Britain, or abroad, the Diamond Resorts that we have stayed at have always been immaculately clean). At Thurnham we have stayed in an apartment directly above the Great Hall, which was of course very in keeping with the style of hotel that Thurnham Hall is, on another occasion we stayed in a small, but gorgeous one bedroom cottage, attached to the main building, which was very cosy. These days we have to stay in the modern, and extremely high standard apartments that are elsewhere on the site, as i am now wheelchair bound, but the standard is so high, that I wouldnt mind living in that apartment all of the time! You also mentioned the toilets, I presume you mean the ones in the mansion house itself? I can only imagine that you only like modern furniture and surroundings, as the said toilets are quaint and in character with the whole house, I don't feel old when I use them, just more like I have stepped back in time, to a gentler era. Our holiday to Thurnham, is our indulgent, doing nothing but the three 'R's (relaxing, resting and reading, in this case) activities. Of course we do venture out occassionally, as the scenery is lovely, and Lancaster itself is a very interesting small county town, but we love returning to that lovely Great Hall room, and as we often stay there near Christmas time, we unwind in front of the twinkling lights of the big Christmas Tree. Thurnham Hall gets 5 stars from me, and in case you are wondering, I am a genuine guest, and not an employee! I am very sorry though, that you didn't find the magic in the place that we do, maybe action and adventure holidays are of more interest to you, I could easily recommend other Diamond Resort hotels to you, for those sort of holidays, if you are interested.
