We spent three perfect days and nights in El Otro Lado in late March. The resort is simply exquisite. No detail is missed. The staff is incredible. The food terrific. The rooms and facilities first rate. Highly recommend the cruise through the mangroves and the beach adventures. Great hikes and wildlife galore. Can't wait to return!

A stunning luxury private retreat accessed by boat. It was so beautiful, quiet and peaceful, overlooking the water with the forest as a backdrop. Heaven. We explored the town of Portobello with its old cathedral and the ruins of a Spanish fort.

El Otro Lado was a beautiful surprise. The hotel is hidden in silent place in Portobelo, near the sea and "inside" a forest. Everything is so colorful and very well decorated with local art. The pool is amazing, where I spent most of my time there. The food was also great. Very private, only a few houses (8 rooms).

As others have stated, arriving by boat to this artsy boutique resort is what I would imagine entering paradise would be like. The rooms are fully equipped and something artsy is in every corner. Be prepared, you are out in the middle of nowhere, you will relax! I've stayed in many other places in different countries and this resort is...

Went there with our 2 kids. There are 4 houses et 3 rooms. We had to book 2 houses : they were very nice, clean with showers with a glass wall looking at the outside jungle. We did a walk in the jungle which was nice. Did not see many animals but was a good experience. The dinner menu was...

What an extraordinary spot. Not only is it stunningly beautiful, but it's totally connected to the rich culture of Portobelo. You could come to enjoy a perfect, relaxing, luxurious getaway, but I fear you'd be missing the point. The art, music, dance, costumes, carpentry, food, nature is all integral to the El Otro Lado experience (and the property itself has...

Arriving at El Otro Lado is like arriving at fantasy island! It's like a camp for adults in the tropics. We were greeted with passion fruit juice (seems to be a staple in Panama) and taken to The Spirit House with the other couple we were traveling with. (Another couple who were to be traveling with us had a family...

In terms of the attention to functional architectural design and interior decoration, in a lifetime of travel I have never seen anything remotely akin to El Otro Lado. In every nook and cranny, in places that you would never think of putting in creative energy, suddenly something calls my attention and I think to myself, “That is really cool!” For...

When we visited Portobelo we had lunch at El Otro Lado, but didn't stay. A really pleasant surprise. I didn't know that such a place existed in Panama. You are picked up by a boat in Portobelo for a short transfer to the resort. When you get off the boat you get a nice fresh juice drink and are met...
