Room and view seemed really nice. Steps are pretty steep and it is quite a trek but the staff were friendly and met us from the pier to help with bags.

The reason I’m leaving 2 stars is because we were awoken at 1am to loud noises to find a RAT in our room and rat droppings all over near our bags and in the bathroom. The whole row of rooms had rats in and we all had to be moved room at 2am. Our second room was OK but a complete downgrade and was really dingy, the other couple told us there were rat droppings all over their second room on the bed etc so they left to find another hotel in the middle of the night. We left early the next morning and the staff still tried to charge us for the room despite the fact we showed them the rat droppings on our bags. We refused to pay and we didn’t even get so much as an apology.

I wouldn’t recommend staying here, it’s cheap but not worth it

We stayed here for two nights and found it a fair price/quality ratio. We landed up moving to a beach location because to be honest if you're in the Railay, the beach is just a far better option than spending your day trekking back and forth.

One thing to note about the hotel is that it is far easier to find the beach check-in. We saw a few people trying to carry their luggage up the staircase which is not recommended. If you find the check-in at the bottom, they'll cart your luggage up for you - much easier.

We found the room clean and comfortable. Strangely the mattress was covered in plastic which I found odd. Also the balcony door was self-locking, I'm sure there's been more than a few people locked out and stranded on the balcony. The view was fine - unlike other reviews I've read I was somewhat underwhelmed. You look out over a small valley and below the resort is what looks to be the local garbage dump and a few low-cost houses. Lastly, what I found highly annoying, was the bathroom was below the room in a windowless room. Next to the shower were exposed electrical wires - not great.

The breakfast was fine, nothing special and I wouldn't expect too much. All that said, for the price it was an ok option. However, for a price not that much more you can be closer to Railay West Beach, which is really the best location to be. Not sure I'd be back even though it was fairly fine to stay there.

Having read other reviews; the stairs are not that bad and there are staff available to take your luggage up in a winch trolly if you check in at the desk by the water.
The staff were really helpful and the view was stunning from the terrace.
We paid more for a mountain view but were disappointed by the quality of the room. Great size, but very limited furnishing - simply nowhere to hang towels, wet clothes, etc (there’s a clothes rail and three hangers but the place needs hooks). We couldn’t use the balcony unless we wanted to a) lock ourselves out or b) leave the door open for the mosquitoes to fly in. When it rained the water trickled into the room under the balcony door.
The bedding under-sheet was plastic, which was off-putting. Breakfast was limited. We felt it was overpriced, despite the incredible view.

The reception area is very difficult to find, as it looks more and is a tourist information centre, once we found it, the receptionist was more interested in doing her make up and made us feel as though we was a hardship to her.
Once checked in we followed a man who very kindly took my bag and was shown to the bottom of the stairs, another very helpful man took our bags from us and we started the climb. There is a lot of stairs but if your fit it’s not to bad. We unfortunately were right at the top of the resort so felt we had way to much climbing to do just to get to our room.
Then we got to the room.. the room is a good size but the shower is directly over the toilet, we’ve had showers next to but never directly over the toilet? Making this a difficult task. There was gaps in between the roof and the walls and huge cracks in the front door, so as you are surrounded by jungle mosquitoes would have been rife and we had no mosquito net (which was advertised). There is no television, this is not necessarily a problem, but what was a problem was that it was not possible to lock the door. Myself and my husband did not feel comfortable staying here and decided to look elsewhere. We returned straight back downstairs and was told we could not have a refund. Not even for the second night we had booked which I felt was unfair as we had good reason to not stay.
I would not recommend this hotel, it’s massively overpriced for a very basic hut. The view is good from the window but the surrounding area which you have to walk through and look over are much to be desired. There are much nicer hotels in the area for the same price even cheaper!

I stayed at this hotel in April 2024.
We booked two rooms for the 3 of us.
The room itself was nice enough inside but the rest of the facilities were awful.
There was broken glass, building work and machinery everywhere. Check in staff and liaising via booking.com with staff has been extremely upsetting, very rude and unprofessional.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

We took a longtail boat from Ao Nang to Railay Beach. We got dropped of at the west side and had to walk 300 meter to the other side. The reception is located about 200 meters from the actual resort, but the receptionist will get staff to help you find your room and carry you luggage. It was an amazing view from the room! Good english speaking staff and it was easy to communicate with the receptionist.
The only negative thing that happened was that it was hard to understand where we was suppose to eat breakfast. Instead of showing us where they just pointed randomly and we had to walk around and guess where it was. Also at two times when we asked for breakfast (that we already had paid for/included in our room price) they said they only had coffee.

I'm happy the staff helped with carrying my luggage and they have a cart that transport your bags up the stairs. It's 134 steps to walk up/down (kind of steep as well) and beware that the road abow the stair has a lot of glass pieces laying. I got pieces of glass stuck in the sole of my shoes, but luckily it didn't go through. I would not recommend wearing flip flops when walking there.

Even if it feels like a hassle to walk up and down, and the walking up the stair is quite literally breath taking, I think it's worth living at Hilltop restort. Wouldn't recommend to stay if you are old or have a hard time getting out of breath/physical effort.

Arrived here yesterday and it’s dreamy! First of all, the stairs aren’t so bad and the lovely staff met me at the pier and carried my suitcase for me. Got upgraded to a superior suite, which was spotlessly clean and the views... wow! Had a lovely breakfast this morning and chatted to the friendly staff who have given me tips on where to visit on the island today.

No bad points.

Yup, you will have to walk up those stairs to your room. But you will be generously repaid by waking up every morning to beautiful limestone cliffs. The rooms are minimalistic but what else do you need? You probably will be coming back just to sleep and not much else. The breakfast is lovely and the staff was super nice.

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed this 'jungle cabin'! I don't really understand why the reviews are so negative, but I think it is important to adjust expectations. Railay is quite expensive compared to the rest of Thailand, and this is really a 'budget' option for Railay. If you choose this accommodation, you choose budget. If you choose a 'hilltop' hotel, you also know that you can expect stairs ;-). We had a beautiful view over the mountains. The room is basic, but with well-functioning air conditioning and everything was nice and clean. The shower was indeed above the toilet, but that is often the case in budget accommodations in Thailand and not a disaster as far as we are concerned. A bit adventurous right! We had a great time, it's nice that the hotel is also above 'the last bar', there is a good restaurant and close to Spider climbing. I would simply return here!
