Translated as the Mill of Chazotte (the river on which we are based), we are a 16th century French watermill offering beautiful, family friendly self catering holiday accommodation. Our four exclusive gites are brimming with charm and character whilst offering all the modern comforts and facilities to ensure you have a relaxing and rewarding holiday. The gites vary in size, from La Principale (the main house) which sleeps up to 7 people - perfect for families. Or for a couple looking for a more romantic, private stay, Le Chai, which is a cosy one bedroom hideaway. All gites have their own private terrace but also offer access to 12 acres of grounds and facilities, including the large heated swimming pool (12m x 6m) and a variety of outdoor activities and games. Located in blissful rural tranquility within the Poitou-Charente region on the French Atlantic coast, only 10 minutes away from historic Cognac and a short drive to the nearest village with that all important local boulangerie. This picturesque region is steeped in Roman and Medieval history and is known for its sleepy villages, Romanesque churches, heritage towns, as well as for the famous and delicious Cognac drink of course.

A truly beautiful setting and very peaceful, the Mill has everything one would expect in terms of modern day comfort but still has charm and character.
Laura and Rowan are the perfect hosts and the welcome basket is a lovely touch.
We enjoyed the pool and gardens and sitting out on the patio, looking at the fabulous views was so relaxing.
Our gite was tastefully decorated, clean and very well appointed.
Cognac itself, a short drive away was charming and a visit to one of the distilleries is a must!
Thoroughly recommended and would visit again in a heartbeat.

We took all the Gites at the Moulin de Chazotte for a large family party for two weeks. Laura and Rowan are the most generous and delightful of hosts. All the Gites are beautifully appointed and comfortable, and having separate kitchens and places to chill out suited a group of families brilliantly. The gites are close enough to share big family meals on the terraces, with the full moon filling the wide open skies and the bats fluttering across the lovely open space in front. We loved having the dogs and chickens around - my two year old grand daughter spent hours playing with them all! The barn and the pool too are wonderful shared spaces - what a lovely pool - and the barn makes a perfect place to play all sorts of games together and a cool respite from the sun at midday. But the best part of the whole thing is the attentiveness and care that Laura and Rowan show to their guests - it really does feel like staying with friends.

Tucked away in the picturesque French countryside, this collection of charming gîtes is absolutely perfect for family holidays - there's plenty of green space for kids to run around (accompanied by the two adorable resident doggies!) and the owners put on fun activities for little ones such as open air cinema evenings. Rowan and Laura are the most wonderful hosts and went above and beyond to make us feel at home. The welcome basket was packed full of homemade goodies baked by Laura (I'm still dreaming about those white chocolate and raspberry cakes!) The surrounding area is absolutely stunning and we enjoyed a Cognac tour at Remy Martin one afternoon, but perhaps what made this holiday extra special was the owners' warm hospitality. Would highly recommend and will definitely visit again.

We stayed once more in Le Hibou and it was like coming home. The welcoming goodie box was pounced upon by the girls and declared gorgeous. Staying at Le Moulin is so relaxing, there is hardly any traffic on the little country roads and they're perfect for strolling or cycling along. The pool is a good size and well-maintained and the grounds are perfect for the kids to run around without any supervision. We visited Bordeaux for a day which is a stunning city and best reached using the train as parking can be very expensive. Well worth the one and a half hour drive because you're going to spend most of the day there. We did a self-directed walking tour round and were able to stop and start. We visited the Aquarium at La Rochelle, absolutely brilliant but be prepared to queue to get in, followed by the Old Port and town. Saintes is also well worth visiting, but even just driving through the countryside, with its vineyards and sunflowers was wonderful. Food shopping is easily done from several supermarkets in Cognac or local smaller shops, 10 - 15 mins drive away. Fresh fish is the best choice, both for variety and cost. For eating out, I would still recommend La Scala and Le Coq D'Or in Cognac or there's a very good Pizza van that sits up in Cherves village on specific nights. I would have no hesitation in recommending Le Moulin to anyone; it's perfect for a family holiday and warm and relaxing for mum and dad. We loved it :)

Such a wonderful holiday. The setting is wonderful and the mill is enchanting. We particularly enjoyed the salt water pool and the table tennis in the barn. Our gite, L'Hibou, was clean, comfortable and well equipped. The welcome goodies were very much appreciated as we arrived on a French Bank Holiday.
Laura and Rowan helped us plan our trip to Remy Martin and to hire canoes on the Charante in Cognac which was a great.
So, if you want to just relax on your terrace or by the pool this is the perfect place but there is also so much to see and do close by.

We stayed here in August as a family with 2 girls, 14 and 10. We enjoyed our stay so much we immediately booked to go back in 2017 and are really looking forward to it. Our hosts were on hand if we needed them. They recommended places to eat and things to do that were great. The scenery is stunning and peaceful and off course the heat was amazing making you feel so relaxed. The pool area was given a big thumbs up by the girls, lots of noodles and inflatables and no smell of chlorine either as it's salt water!! Plenty of big fluffy towels were provided so don't bother bringing any and the cooking facilities were excellent. There's at least 3 large supermarkets in Cognac which is about a 15 min drive but also some small shops in the village which you can see up on the hill from your house. Remy the dog was also a big hit with the kids and very friendly :) Overall we were very pleased with the house, the owners and the overall holiday, hence for the first time ever we've actually booked to go back to the same place. Can't wait to lie by the pool in the sun and chill !!

Three of us stayed at Le Moulin de Chazotte in L'abricotier, which was wonderful - clean, comfortable and perfect for our stay. The gite had everything we could possibly need, and we enjoyed breakfast on the veranda most mornings! We were welcomed on arrival by Laura, one of the owners, who was polite, friendly and happy to help, and we were delighted to find a wonderful basket of goodies in our gite, including local and homemade produce. The pool was a great place to relax during the day, and we were even lucky to experience the outdoor cinema one warm evening, hosted by Laura and Rowan. During our stay, we didn't venture far, but enjoyed our time relaxing with a glass of wine in the sunshine - with helpful hosts, we couldn't have asked for more. We will be returning!

This was our second visit to the Chazotte, the first with Laura and Rowan at the helm and the subtle changes they have made since our visit last year have improved the grounds and the building. The open spaces, barn and pool are spectacular with amazing views across the fields, grapevines and the river.

Laura and Rowan provide the perfect balance of the onsite owner allowing our family to enjoy the tranquil surroundings and all the Gite has to offer at our own leisure at the same time as being on hand to ask questions, give advice and even offer entertainment to the children in the form of film night and helping to pick the crops from the trees.
Remy, the black Labrador, is a wonderful addition the the estate - playful and obedient he adds a touch of excitement to the holiday.

When not taking a dip in the pool or canoeing along the river the surrounding area has plenty of activities suitable for adults and families alike. The miniature boats at Port Mianture in Sain-Savinine were particular favourite of our 9 & 10 year olds who were able to captain their own vessels whilst we enjoyed the beautiful historic towns of Cognac, Saintes and Jarnac. The local restaurants and patisseries are second to none and of course the tours of the regions famous cognac disstillaries are a must.

We are very much looking forward to our return visit in 2018 when we hope to Marry at Le Moulin de Chazotte.

Thank you Laura, Rowan and Remy for a wonderful experience. X

We stayed one night in this old converted mill, and loved it. It was situated in a superb location with breathtaking views for miles. It is in a calm and peaceful spot, with an atmosphere that is tranquil and restful.
The old mill was fascinating, and the friendly and welcoming hosts were keen to chat to us about the process of their first falling in love with the place and the subsequent renovation. All has been carefully undertaken, providing separate gites with character and charm.
