In occasion of our dad’s birthday. We’re having a trip to Phu Yen. After searching around on booking. We decided to choose Sao Mai Resort for our accommodation. We are so excited to write this review . At first we are welcomed by securities with happy smile even we checked in at 5am in the morning. Then bellboy picked our luggages and escorted us to our room. Just wow , can’t believe that our room are massive in size and cosy. Furnitures were all solid wood, and bathroom was designed with sunlight throughout all around . 7am next day , we are served with delicious meals which offered variously traditional food or western food. After breakfast , resort offered us to visit all around their places by electric shuttle bus. We are showed their whole hill which has small zoo, spa, gymnastic area which cover tennis court, gym, football field ... Then they let our kids enjoyed massive swimming pool and playground . After that , receptionists offered us to go to their other famous place which call “yellow and green hill “. It literally is a hill whole covered with well looked after grass and chrysanthemums. Trust me, this is one of the most beautiful place i have seen . After this they let us free to enjoy our trip to other places . Today is second day we stay here. Same as yesterday we enjoyed our buffet then went out. We went back resort and got a big surprise, they invited us to join their ending year celebration party. We felt like we are vip guests and also their family. We will check out tomorrow , we just wanna give a 5 stars positive feedback for them for “ professional staffs, beautiful plus luxurious room’s furnitures and design, delicious food, good location with private beach etc.” Will stay here again next trip .

This was our second visit to the Vietstar Resort and it did not disappoint in any way. It is still the paradise that we remembered it to be.
The accomodations are amazing...ranging from cottages and suites to three and four bedroom villas. The villas are perfect for families or multiple couples; as each has seperate, private bedrooms with communal living, dining and kitchen areas. The luxurious bathrooms with open air, rock-faced showers are an added bonus. The three bedroom villa even has an infinity pool with deck on the upper floor with a wide view of the Sea.
The staff was as gracious as ever and willing to accomodate in every way. For lunch, we were hoping to order cheeseburgers (as Americans tend to crave while traveling). The kitchen manager personally talked with us to make sure we were getting exactly what we wanted. They were delicious. The evening meal was simply lovely....large grilled prawns, fish with vegetables and tasty scalloped potatoes.
The beach is a quick, five minute drive in vehicles provided by the resort. Once through the small, local village, you arrive at an expansive beach with white sand and interesting rock formations. It is very quiet with views of the off-shore islands. It is the perfect place to catch up on reading, relaxing or playtime. There is also an incredible pool on the resort grounds with an outdoor bar and dining area.
The Spa offers a full menu of services provided for excellent prices. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway or a stop along the way during your travels through Vietnam, this is the ideal place. I'm sure that you will enjoy it as much as we have.

I wish more people will find this excellent place! Tuy Hoa is outside the ordinary tourist areas and that is worth a lot! This is an real hidden gem with a great management and crew. we felt like king and queen the 2 nights we stayed. The owner has put a lot of effort to get this to a place to remember. They also work a lot for the environment and the village. Over 200 people have got their living from this resort. And they make it to an excellent stay for you. The surroundings are very spacious, well kept and delightful. We stayed in an villa with our own pool and a view to die for. We tried a lot of the services and it was all excellent. Food, bar, room service, pool area and spa is high class. And the crew aim to give you what you ask for. We also visited the beach and it was a nice trip trough a really sweet small village with smiling people. And the beach is stunning! An other nice thing with this resort is the space. It is big enough to get both the family and the romantic couple a really great stay! Highly recomend! We will come back for sure!

We are American ex-pats living and working temporarily in Tuy Hoa. What a delight to find the Vietstar Resort. It is lovely with every amenity you could desire. Our Suite Room was exquisite; the bathroom was an added bonus with the rock faced open air shower and soaking tub. The spa, restaurant and pool area are all 1st rate with a gracious staff. Seaside Tuy Hoa is only a short flight (1 hour +) from HCMC. Don't miss the opportunity to be a guest at the Vietstar Resort. The beaches in this area are spectacular and you may find that the only footprints are yours.

After a warm welcome and greeting with complimentary drinks from front office manager Aye Einda we got an tour of the faboulous resort with all its services from tenniscourt, small zoo for the kids, a very luxury spa, restaurants to the beautiful beach with an amazing soft sand i have never in my whole life walked on. Later we were greeted by one of the owner of the resort, Mr Bao a very happy and down to earth man and also very caring about all the guests.
This resort is very suitable for familys with children with the zoo and other activities suitable for families. Our group was of four friends and we rented the "Cherry Villa" with its own pool built on the mountain with a magnificent view all over the bay with it´s beach and over the vietnameese landscape.
The service was outstanding and we also got to meet the very expierienced chef that introduced us to the menu including both western and asian food including seafood. Together we planned our special meals including lunch by the beach. And a special dinner including seafood and other asian food. Big thank to the chef for everything and the superb service from all his staff. The resort also grow their own vegetables and have never tried so good vegetables..ECO-friendly!
The owner Mr. Bao joined us for our evening dinner by the pool. The food was great and also the service. And the setting up of our table was out of this world, it felt very luxurys. I have never before met an owner so down to earth and caring about the guests, We had a great evening with alot of interesting stories told by Mr Bao. He was just about to join us for a moment but ended up sitting by our table for the whole evening with a lot of interesting discussion about us, him, vietnam and so on.
We also tried the spa and had a couple of very nice massages for a very resonable price, The Spa staff were very professional and experienced.
Overall it was a superb stay! And I wish mr. Bao all success in the future with guests all over the world. I believe Vietnam is in an early stage with tourism and has alot of potential in the future with it´s paradise beaches and beautiful landscape and a very warmhearted people.
Somtimes a bit problem with language but everyone is eager to learn.

This is surely among the best and most amazing resorts of its kind in Vietnam, and possibly in all Southeast Asia, after you factor in quite reasonable room rates and the privacy element if the resort is not operating at full capacity. Some of the structures built on complicated hilly terrain are simply masterpieces of engineering.
I usually do not write hotel reviews as I stay for 150 to 200 nights a year in hotels, mostly in Asia-Pacific and Europe, and there is no time to provide meaningful reviews of all of them. Hence this is the only review I have on Tripadvisor for now (in case you wondered). I researched thoroughly and asked for local advice before my first trip to Vietnam, and ultimately decided to try the Vietstar Resort for the leisure part of the trip. I was very curious to experience the resort, and how it compares to similar hotels in nearby countries. When asked by the management to provide comments after the stay, I thought this public form of review might benefit future guests the most. Disclaimer: I paid for my own 1-week stay.
This is essentially a hill resort with a beach access by electric cars. It is typically Vietnamese in many ways. First, the location. Yes, this is rural Vietnam, luckily not saturated by mass tourism, at least not yet. Best access is by a direct flight either from HCMC or Hanoi. The resort can provide private transport from the airport which I think works out the same price as by taxi. There is a small village near the resort which has 2 markets where you can buy fruits and vegetables, but not any bigger shops for instance thus you will depend on the resort for catering. The nearest city Tuy Hoa is about USD 7 taxi ride away, one way, approx. 10 km. Again this is a nice city not frequented by foreigners giving you a friendly Vietnamese experience. First and foremost, you are likely to come to Vietstar to experience the resort ambiance though and staying in and in the vicinity of the resort is quite fine even for longer periods of time.
The rooms. I split my stay between a Deluxe and Suite room. Both were in great condition, varying from generous 60 to 80 sqm in size. The windows were well screened for insects and open bathroom area worked out well for that reason. Complimentary water albeit in small bottles is provided along with tea and coffee in room. The resort is quite large, and some rooms will require you to use electric cars (the mode for internal transport within the resort) more often than others, therefore discuss your room requirements with the helpful front office. Suites are quite secluded with nice views while most Deluxe rooms are closer to the pool. There are also some cheaper rooms and then larger villas consisting of 2 to 3 bedrooms, some with a private swimming pool. At the cost of around 3 times the regular rooms, they can be a bargain for bigger groups or a family given the extra privacy. Again, depends on your requirements.
About facilities. The pool is big and has a long canal to swim in. The most surprising part however is the kitchen, more on that below. Unlike some other reviewers, I quite liked the mushroom theme and do think every decorative element or detail fits in very well into the environment. The beach had some occasional plastic bag waste but was in general well maintained with chairs and towels available. The resort has a small zoo and a golf range plus spa (treatments are on the expensive side though). Gardens and grounds are well maintained.
The service. Well, this is rural Vietnam so do not expect fluent English. The front office speaks English though and everyone tried very hard to communicate. Obviously some are more confident in their English skills, some less. Although spoken Vietnamese will probably remain a challenge for a casual visitor, it does make sense to try to learn some, at least numbers, for instance to be able to communicate your room number to the bellboy. It will help to establish a better rapport with resort employees (you will depend on bellboys as they also drive the electric cars). In general I found that in every department at least one person was able to speak acceptable English and usually these people also provided the best and most personalised and friendly service. A few times I really enjoyed truly memorable highly polished 5-star-worth service at the best international standard/level which more than compensated for perhaps one or two less stellar or indifferent encounters during my short stay. You have to keep in mind that tourism in Vietnam is still in early stages and people have limited skills and experience – I would highly praise the resort for being able to provide such a service quality given its location and the fact most employees come from the local village (and that many guests are actually Vietnamese). After identifying employees most eager to speak English, please spend a few moments to give them a chance to practice their skills on you.
What I liked the most was the privacy. I stayed during a shoulder season in early February and there were only a few individual guests with some occasional MICE events. MICE guests were mainly Vietnamese and they did not seem to use the pool or the beach. So pay attention to seasons, it was still quite windy at the beach and this prevented me trying out the private island owned by the resort across the beach as waves were simply too high to undertake the boat trip. Even during high season I do not think the resort gets too packed to enjoy.
Restaurants and food. Resort has one of the best kitchens in the area, well exceeded my expectations. The menu is varied and prices at mid-end HCMC bistro level, far lower than expensive restaurants in HCMC. The buffet breakfast was fresh and varied and had equal selection of Vietnamese and Western food (keep in mind most guests can be Vietnamese). Eggs cooked as per your order. To offer suggestions for improvement, for a 5-star tropical resort one would expect freshly squeezed fruit juice at buffet breakfast and perhaps the cheese selection could have been more varied. Fresh juices were however available in special breakfasts. The food itself was slightly varied from day to day so even longer stays were well catered for. The pastry selection was good as well.
To sum up, this resort is suitable for different types of guests, from conferences to individual tourists, and everyone is well taken care of. I do not think you will be able to find a better place to stay in this price range in this part of Vietnam. The hotel gives you unique insights into a relaxing Vietnamese-style hill resort life. Do visit the top of the hill for the best views of the area, enjoy the friendly village and visit the beach (new beach just about to open). The lovely front office manager will go out of her way to make your stay a special one, only that please do not abuse her willingness to assist you in any matter – she has also a right for a occasional day off, and simpler requests can be communicated directly to respective staff members who are equally eager to provide outstanding service.

It's really a good place for a family. We have 2 daughters, one of 6 years and half and one of 7 months. We are very happy to find this paradise and stayed there for 4 nights. We bought the room by Agoda and they gave us an upgrade to Deluxe. We were the only guest of the resort until the third day when a group of moto-tourists of about 40 people came and they just left for one night. It's very calm, nice and peaceful. Staff very friendly, nice and helpful. My husband is European and I am Vietnamese, but we are both very satisfied with meals offered by Vietstar restaurant. We profit of this occasion to taste sea food and it's really good and cheap. We had a meal of plenty of fresh sea food with about 15 USD, much cheaper than in Hanoi, where you have to pay at least 4 or 5 times more expensive for the same plates. They try to keep a wide menu, even we are the only guest in the resort. There's also a small zoo, spa, karaoke... The pool is very nice. Everything is new, of good quality.
The second part of the resort beside the sea is now in construction. You can ask the reception for a car and go there if you want to swim in the sea. It's take only 10 minutes.
The room is very large and comfortable, nice bathroom, with TV, wifi free and mini bar. The laundry service is very cheap.
The restauran is a bit hot in the noon, but the bar near swimming pool is very agreable because it's much more higher on the hill and there's much wind.
Tuy Hoa is a nice city. You can go to the Tour on the mont Nhan at night to see all the city by night. It's a nice view. The grotte Ghenh Da Dia (rock classed like a Disk) must be nice to see, but we could not go there because of the small baby.
We will certainly come back to Vietstar resort for another holiday.
