Our small group of friends decided on this occasion to look round the grounds only as we were short of time that day. We felt decidedly short-changed as we then found we were limited to the small area of upper gardens and a short section of battlements for a view. I visited Chateau de Montreuil - bellay with my Girlfriend who is in a wheelchair. The Chateau is stunning the staff there are very polite, attentive and helpful. To appreciate the experience here I think you will also begin to appreciate how the French like to present places like this as opposed to the way we present "dry" information in...

Lovely private castle in a small village. The castle and church are beautifull, visits with a guide are available in summer to understand all the life of the castle. You can visit walls and gardens and buy wines. Red wines are typical of region.

Because this Château is privately owned and still lived in there is far more of a 'real' feel to it than many other Loire Chateaux. There is a very comprehensive tour and if French isn't your first language they will give you a written guide in English, German, etc which actually has far more detail than the French speakers get...
