The hotel experience at Monarca is magical. The view, the food, the service is just absolutely top notch. Only about 9 rooms so very few guests at a time so you literally get personalized service ALL hours of the day - whatever you need whether a meal, laundry, taxi, getting the jacuzzi ready for you, booking a day trip they will do for you without hesitation. There is an open kitchen with a set menu but they will modify to whatever your dietary requirements are - food prices are reasonable and they are so accommodating. Tips: bring warm clothes as the room is freezing at night and consider bringing your own wine as they don't have a big selection and what they have is more expensive than what you can get if you buy your own. Leave plenty of time for breakfast because if they are cooking for multiple guests it will take really long. Would stay here again a hundred times over!…
My friend and I stayed at the Monarca for two nights last week. The hotel is a converted mansion and has the feel of luxury and staying over a family or friend's house. We were the only two guests the nights we stayed so it was eerie at first but then awesome to have to the place to ourselves. Location is about 30 minutes from Solento in taxi (which is easy to get). Taxi will run you about 70,000 col pesos to town which is roughly $20. We choose the hotel due to the majestic views of the mountains, you literally are looking at the most amazing views. Christian is the manager and was so great in taking care of us and making sure we had all our needs met. A few pointers, there is no heat so def take warm pajamas and slippers to walk around in. The wifi is sketchy at times so you may want to take a hot spot if you will need to connect. There is a jacuzzi and sauna which was GREAT to use after my 7 hour hike. The breakfast is so delicious as you are having it outside looking out to the mountains.…
My husband and I stayed at Hotel Reserva Monarca for three nights. Our first time visiting the area, we had booked for two nights and then were planning to stay the third night in Salento, as we thought we would want to be close to the city. We changed our plans (even forfeited the money in the hotel we had book in town) because we loved Hotel Reserva Monarca THAT much and couldn't bear the thought of leaving. We were lucky enough to have the place to ourselves without other guests, so it was super quiet and peaceful. The views and atmosphere are magical and the place is perfectly tranquil - very special. We took a hike down the first day to the private cabin and koi pond - it was a steep hike back up, but worth it for the views and experience (the hotel kindly gave us a walkie talkie and offered to come pick us up if we changed our mind on the hike back uphill). Around town, did the five-hour Cocora Hike while there, and the hotel jacuzzi (amazing jets!), steam, and sauna were perfect after that long beautiful hike. Christian, the hotel manager, is incredibly professional, kind, and helpful - speaks very good English - offered many recommendations - and all the staff were lovely and helpful and accommodating (the chef cooks delicious made-to-order meals!). The lovely chef makeIt's easy to get to and from town (for $10US) because the hotel calls a friendly cab company (We used Luis Fernando Araque and his sons - 311-798-6045 - he was the best!). Overall - highly highly recommend this magical place. We won't forget our time there, and sitting out enjoying breakfast and gazing at the incredible mountains and cloud forest. Good for couples, families, and small groups who appreciate peace, quiet, and beauty surrounded by nature.…
Due to fog we only stayed one night in this lovely boutique hotel. Otherwise we would have lingered. However: we fully enjoyed the friendly service, excellent food, clean and beautiful decorated rooms, the spa and even went for an early morning walk to the little cottage which is at the end of the very steep walkway down the hill. The hotel is beautifully decorated and I enjoyed all the flowers and plants on the property. Christopher, the host even was so kind to do some laundry for us!
We stayed one night, I did the Cocora Valley hike in the morning, this place is a very short drive to Salento so it's perfect if you want to do that hike, plus the view in the morning looks out into the Cocora Valley (only a few hotels have this view) so watching the sunrise over the valley was a good way to kick off my day. My girlfriend didn't hike, but she had the breakfast at the hotel and told me it was the best of all the places we stayed, so I will take her word for it. The staff here was extremely friendly all around. Really you can't go wrong with this place, I don't have anything bad to say about it.
