My handsome husband and I booked one night at the Pickled Onion after leaving the busy city behind and were welcomed by the lovely Valerie and her efficient staff. The room was spacious and very calm, and furnished beautifully. The sheets and towels were freshly laundered and of great quality, and the mattress was a dream! The gardens were lush...

It was a serious pleasure to return to the Pickled Onion, and this time to share the place with my parents as I led them through the Yucatan. Its location is perfect for checking out Uxmal, and the property is a truly beautifully put together bit of serenity. We thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant as well, which has the best food...

This B&B is in the large garden, every room is in the Maya-style house, which is very nice, large (private entrance, private bathrooms and coffee maker). There is also a pool in the garden. The breakfast is included, it is tasty and nice. In 10 minutes you are in Uxmal, other historic places are also near. You can have dinner...

Overall, a very serene and quaint setting. Individual palapa-roofed huts. The landscaping with the botanical identification tiles was well done. Pool was very refreshing. Good restaurant, including providing lunches to go, which is great for a full day of sightseeing. Proximity to Uxmal and Ruta Puuc sites (highly recommend smaller ruins like Kabah and Labna, and the Loltun Caves). We...

Brilliant! Had the opportunity of staying a couple of nights, after 2 days of rambling about the Maya jungle. Wonderful sleeping accommodations, excellent food and service. A pool to relax in and all within one's budget.

My wife and I, who are in our mid - 70's, spent a week at this wonderfully Mayan flavoured place. The grounds, along with the pool are a delight. The palapas ( individual huts ) provide interestingly functional and comfortable accommodation. The restaurant provides an opportunity to sample Yucatan cuisine ( thank you Hilario ) and mingle with other guests. The members...

Everything was great about this restaurant........the ambiance, the service, and most of all, the food. We stopped here for lunch on the way home from a shopping day at Tecul. We did not stay over night.

Valerie Pickles, a Brit by way of Canada, tells you how she came to establish the Pickled Onion in little Santa Elena, and you will bless her for doing so. The cabins are oval adobes with thatched roofs, wonderfully designed and furnished. The pool offers welcome relief from the Yucatan heat. Massages and reiki are available. Breakfast room (not a...

This is a spot you'll want to book at least a few days in advance, perhaps a week or more during the busier seasons. We were lucky and managed to get the last two rooms they had available the day we arrived in Santa Elena, although we could only stay one night. When I say "room", I mean your own...

Ok food, it felt safe to eat here, but we opted to eat elsewhere the rest of our stay because of the service There are a few places to eat in Santa Elena, check them out!! I can't think of more to say about this place except there were a lot of tourists there and no locals!
