Excellent base for seeing Kangaroo Island. Not much else in the area except for an outrageously expensive resort South Ocean Lodge. The setting is superb near Flinders National Park and Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary with a superb night tour and opportunities to see koalas and...More

We stayed in a family room in the Eco lodge and no complaints about the quality of the room. With a king bed and two bunk beds in the bedroom, reasonable sized sitting area, and small kitchen it worked well for us. The bathroom needs...More

Although Kangaroo Island Wilderness Retreat has some dormitory type accommodations with cooking facilities, most of their rooms do not. Nearest grocery store is in Kingscote - about 100 km. Nearest self-catering accommodations are Hanson Bay. Most people who self-cater bring coolers with them on the ferry from Adelaide and get supplies in Kingscote. There is a small coffee shop at Hanson Bay and another at the Visitor's Center at Flinders Chase, but neither are open for dinner. The rooms at Kangaroo Island Wilderness Retreat do have small refrigerators so you can store cheese and snacks in your room, but no cooking facilities. If you stay at Kangaroo Island Wilderness Retreat, you should expect to eat most meals there. Nearest restaurants are Kingscote.
