At least the pub was saved by the community when under threat from closure by Punch Taverns. Popped in for a sandwich but unfortunately the kitchen was closed & pub about to close despite their website which needs updating stating open all day. A bit of a mish mash with old & new touch ups some of which were out...

A 200 year old pub with accommodation. The rooms were very comfortable and airy. The food was a mixture of traditional pub fair and a daily specials ranging from old favourites to european and asian cuisine. The friendly atmosphere made this a perfect base to relax and to see the local landmarks and seaside towns.

Richard and his wife had only taken over the running of the Red Lion recently and thankfully they hadn't painted everything matt battleship grey and gone "minimalist" this is a proper pub, with local support (even though some are weekenders!" On our arrival, we enquired about dinner and unfortunately Richard's wife was out that evening and as she is the...

This place is obviously going through a transition stage and so far so good. Our room was at the back of the pub and very quiet. Lovely comfortable bed with beautiful crisp linen. Good hot shower although I had a bit of trouble switching it off. Breakfast was particularly good; cereals, muesli, fruit, yogurt followed by a full English. The...

My wife and I recently visited The Red Lion for a 7-night stay and were greatly impressed. The owners, Bib and Richard, were very welcoming and could not do enough for us - even Lily the Jack Russell went out of her way to say hello! As soon as we walked in on our first day, we were made to...

We stopped over the bank holiday weekend. Richard & Bib gave us a warm welcome. We had a lovely sunny room with a comfortable bed, good shower in the en suite. Good beer, great breakfast, comfortable seats outside on patio. Mainly a locals' place - well they've got good taste! If you are into walking take the second lane over...

My wife and I dropped in on Saturday afternoon, August 20th, whilst reviewing a walk for a group of friends. It wasn't particularly warm for August, so when my wife asked for a coffee. I guess it was the landlord behind the bar who looked at me in dismay and said "My wife's upstairs"!!! I avoided the obvious replies and...

Hello Mark, unfortunately on the afternoon you popped in my wife had just gone up to service the letting rooms, normally we'd be happy to provide tea and coffee but on this occasion I was the only person behind the bar and as you mentioned with about 10 customers in for obvious reasons I could not leave the bar and...

We visited the red lion Sidbury for a weekend getaway in August and we are so glad we chose this place!! Great reception from the staff/Owner, bar with plenty of character and a great atmosphere (especially on the Friday night), beautiful room with fantastic views and the full English breakfast was amazing!! Asked for fresh milk in the room for...

Lovely old pub in traditional village. I used my pensioner bus pass to zoom into Sidmouth each day. Bus takes about 5 minutes from right outside the pub. The owners are helpful and welcoming, the accommodation clean, bright and comfortable, and the breakfast delicious.

Very fiendly old world pub with great breakfast, because of late buses ideal for night out in Sidmouth, on this occasion for Folk Festival. Rooms have been given lick of paint since last visit and beds very comfortable.
