Detailed Reviews
We returned to Playa Andaluza for 2 weeks in a 2 bedroom villa, we knew that the experience would be different under the "new normal" rules in Spain.
However the resort team did all they could to make our vacation as good as they could!
Yes there were changes, no organised activities, restaurant closed, etc.
But we had a great 2 weeks, we were able to enjoy the swimming pools everyday, even though there were less sunbeds to support social distancing. The pool bar was open with it's daily Happy Hours.
We were very impressed with the levels of cleanliness in the resort, they regularly sanitized touch points around the resort, the sunbeds were sanitized after each use.
There was no daily clean in the apartments, but it was easy to get extra towels etc delivered and there was still a weekly clean after 7 nights.
An excellent stay, which for us felt as normal as possible.

My wife and I spent a week at the Marriott Andaluza. It was a very positive experience. The staff was exceptional; from the front desk to the cleaners to the grounds workers to the activities leaders they were all friendly, cheerful, and did all they could to provide help and a great experience. The grounds were very clean and well maintained. Lots of daily classes and activities of various types. Since it was the off season, the restaurant appeared to have reduced its menu somewhat, and the food was okay, but not spectacular. There is a new Aldi’s grocery store a short walk away that is very well stocked with food and beverage choices. Very safe environment, with controlled access to the resort, both at the entryway and beachside. Quiet neighborhood and almost no traffic right outside the grounds. Multiple pools, and very family friendly, with lots of playgrounds and activities (miniature golf, tennis, basketball, etc.). Rooms were clean and well equipped; almost all had balconies. Just a few negatives: no restaurants within walking distance but there are lots of decent restaurants nearby (almost all have to be accessed via the A7 Highway, which has some really bizarre ways to get on and off).
We have travelled extensively internationally and have stayed in lots of different campgrounds, hotels, and resorts and would rank this Marriott quite high.

Another wonderful week at this amazing resort which as owners have visited many times before.
The apartment as always was spotless and housekeeping do a fantastic job each day on their daily service. Every member of staff at this resort works extremely hard to give their guests the best experience possible, always friendly and helpful. The grounds are always beautifully kept and the whole resort is cleaned regularly to keep guests and staff safe.
My two sons ( 13,& 11) love everything this resort has to offer, they look forward to returning year after year as do I and my husband.
We enjoyed the daily happy hour and had two nice meals in the restaurant, the pizzas are fantastic.
The only negative for me on the trip was the large amount of older Spanish teenagers that were around the resort, they would usually make an appearance late afternoon at the sports pool, attempting to take over the whole pool with their noisy intimidating behaviour.
Most of the time the life guard on duty would mention to them about out of order behaviour including the time one of them booted a football high up over the pool and other guests despite being warned five minutes before, I was pleased to see he acted quickly and they were asked to leave the area immediately. Saying that sometime when it was one of the young females on duty they would avoid any confrontation and busy themselves around the pool, allowing for things to get a little out of control for longer periods of time which totally changed the atmosphere and vibe.
It makes me wonder if this group were actually local day guests, they often had their own towels and would arrive with pack-backs, one even with a motorcycle helmet one day. I did question it at the front desk but was unable to get a straight answer apart from, local day guests need to be with the owner. I’m curious to know how many day passes a local owner could have because there was about 12 in this group and we saw them everyday of our holiday.
Overall we all had a fantastic time and can’t wait to return.

As a Marriott Bonvoy member, I accepted an invitation to try this resort for four nights at a bargain rate in return for attending a sales presentation about the benefits of Marriott Vacation Club Ownership.
On arrival, despite the property being a fair drive along the coast from Malaga airport and a little tricky to find from the main road, the first impressions were very favourable. The lobby area was smart and well presented, and the grounds of the complex were lush, manicured and seemingly well maintained. With multiple pools and other typical resort facilities, we looked forward to our stay and we we were welcomed warmly by those that checked us in.
The two bedroom apartment to which we were assigned was very well equipped, if somewhat tired and dated in decorative and styling terms. Sadly, however the principle reason for my very low score is that our stay was spoilt by an incident which could have been life threatening. On our second night, in the early hours of the morning, we were awoken by an almighty crash. On investiga, we found that the wall mounted microwave oven and extractor fan unit had collapsed from its fixtures, smashing the ceramic hob as it had crashed to the kitchen floor. Only hours earlier we had been cooking at the hob and had that happened then, the results could have been devastating.
To the property’s credit, they were able to send an engineer to assess the situation immediately. He seemed quite horrified, exclaiming ‘madre dios!’ when surveying the damage and the scene. He removed the microwave, leaving us to clean up the fallen plasterwork and broken glass from the hob.
After hardly any sleep following the shock of this event, the following morning we spoke to the reception team who, whilst apologetic, didn’t seem to acknowledge the serious nature of this incident, offering us a free lunch or breakfast to compensate. We declined both, bargaining instead for a later checkout than 10am on our last day, given that we had lost so much sleep and so much of the morning moving apartments, which was, I would add, something we had to insist on rather than an option which was offered to us proactively.
To add insult to (near) injury, we then attended the sales presentation which overran its intended 90 minutes and again trivialised our experience, in the vain hope that we’d consider parting with over £17000 to become an ‘owner’ at this development. Insensitive and disrespectful in the extreme.
We acknowledge we may have just been very unlucky, but our experience here would absolutely rule out Marriott Vacation Club ownership or a return to this somewhat isolated, quite tired and it would seem poorly maintained location, at least in terms of its fixtures and fittings.

Good evening and thank you for providing your review and feedback at Marriott's Playa Andaluza. We are truly sorry to hear that you were awaken by the microwave that collapsed in the middle of the night and thankfully no one was injured. Please note, this was a very isolated incident that occurred, and the safety of our owners and guests is our highest priority. We are glad the team provided a room move and later check-out upon your request. Thank you for your feedback and appreciate you giving us a try!

Yet another year of being totally unable to book the weeks we have paid for at this resort. It is so overbooked that we have been unable now to reserve a week even 13 months in advance and when getting through to a member of staff the minute the properties are released. No one needs this much negativity in their life.

We love this resort but since we go every year we are somewhat biased. However, this year we took two Australian friends who commented every day about how beautifully kept the place was, how the rooms were a great size and well equipped and frankly how relaxing the resort was. The fact that the hotel marketplace was open at 10pm when we arrived was a godsend. Fresh bread and croissants every morning is a must.Almost everything is open. We enjoyed a BBQ dinner at the restaurant and surprised not to see it busier.
The resort may not be in the centre of Estepona but so many great places to visit are a short drive away. This year we attended a wine tasting at a vineyard near Ronda which was brilliant.
Everyone at the resort were helpful and available. I hope the other things like the owners drinks and paella demonstration eventually return after this pandemic chaos finishes.

We’ve just returned from a perfect week at Marriott playa andaluza. We rented a car from Malaga airport and easily found the resort using Google maps. The underground parking onsite is fantastic. Check in was efficient and Sandra on reception was very welcoming and helpful. Our 2-bed apartment looked over the main pool and beach. The apartment was spotlessly clean and housekeeping visited daily to make beds, etc. The kitchen was fully equipped and there was a small laundry inside the apartment with a washers and separate dryer. There was maintenance on the main pool during our stay but there was little disruption - we went to the small private beach most days. The beach beds were comfortable and beach towels and bath robes were provided. The other pools were open including the indoor pool. I attended the Aqua Aerobics every morning and really, really enjoyed the instruction. 100% recommend. The restaurant on-site was closed however the MarketPlace Cafe was open and we had deliveries to our room on a couple of occasions and the food was excellent. There is an Aldi 5 minutes away and several restaurants including Sushi, Russian, Italian. The resort is very well maintained and the staff very very friendly. Thank you Marriott.

Right.. We are Marriott Vacation Club owners, and have been for 22 years now, so declaring that up front!
So, we are uded to the Marriott experience, the staff at the resort are great and go out of their way to be friendly and helpful.. In saying all that, yes the Pool was closed, but to be honest it was cool in the wind, and even though the other pool was open, I think I only saw one other person using it all week.. The indoor pool was used a lot, it was warm, and very clean, as were all the facilities in the spa area. It was a pity the restaurant was closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, it would be good to have that posted in the Villas.
The beach needs a tidy up, and there is not a lot going on in the area. We went to Pizza Taxi on 2 nights as it was the closest to the resort.. Pizza was good there as well!
There is a saying that, you can make a lot of little changes to make a place great, and I think the resort needs to do this... Like Owner breakfast just coffee and pastry to let us know whats going on that week at the resort, slippers in the villas, cause it has tiled floors and they are cold in the middle of the night! Simple instructions how to use the diswasher, washer and dryer.
I saying all that, the flamenco show was good, and the Singer on Friday night was excellent, plus the quality of the food and service in the restaurant was good too..
you do need a car to get around... But, if you have a young family, then there is lots to keep the kids occupied..

Delightful hotel. We rented a 2 bedroom apartment. spacious rooms and bathrooms, comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen. There was a washing machine and a tumble dryer, iron, hoover, dishwasher.
There was nothing they hadn't thought of.
The breakfast was OK.
The hotel shop didn't have all the stuff and was a bit overpriced but there is an ALDI within walking distance where you can find whatever you need.
Food from outside can be ordered for delivery to reception.
Clean beach.
Several clean swimming pools, indoor and outdoor.
We were 2 families with children aged 7 to 15 and they all had fun. There was a kids club and lots of other activities to keep the children busy.

I am an appalled, disgusted and insulted owner at the Marriott Vacation Club
Arrived here late at night and checked in. We had booked a studio for our stay which .
is basically no bigger than your average hotel bedroom - very, very dated.
This resort has no concierge, there is no breakfast available (unless you count doing your own thing from the supermarket)
The only restaurant in the resort closes Tuesday and Wednesday so on those days you have no breakfast or dinner available.
We had a large resort credit which was impossible to spend and literally had to argue with Marriott Vacation Club Marketing and the hotel management to have some moved to the Marriott Marbella.
We were today asked at the hotel supermarket if we were an owner as this entitled us to a discount. Having already been here 3 days we went to reception to ask about the discount and we’re informed it applied to the supermarket/ restaurant and pool bar. When I explained we were not aware I was told it’s not the hotels fault ‘i am ill formed and could I move out of the queue as they did not want to have this conversation’.
If you like self catering with hostile hotel attitude you will love this place - if like me you are an owner who invested huge savings and now can’t even get booking and when you do are treated with disdain then steer clear. If anyone knows of a way out of this nightmare then let me know……

Hi, there is many places on site for children including the football pitch and there is a Kids Club and a Games Room. I hope this helps :)
The resort still organises day coach tours to Gibraltar I believe. Worth contacting resort for details. Probably less hassle than driving.
Hi,
6 blocks of 3 floors with 6 or so rooms per floor.
Can't help you on that, sorry.
