This resort was very good value. We stayed in one of the rooms for 480 Baht per night and hot shower free wife and FREE breakfast. Usually free breakfasts at hotels in Asia are not worth it, but I have to say this one was. Coffee/tea fresh juice toast and fruit was very surprising! The resort is very good nice staff and the food in the evening real Thai taste. We have to stay 3 night but stay there 2 days longer. Close to the beach circa 500 meters.

I tried going to Suan Luang's website and got a message saying ''access denied''. Weird. Then I sent an e-mail to their Yahoo address. No reply. Then I sent a reservation request via Facebook. No reply. Maybe I should have taken the hint, but we went there anyway. We inspected fan and air-con rooms. Both were attractive. We took the air-con at 680 baht (fan was 480). Our bungalow was solid, tidy, attractive. Then we went to the restaurant to have lunch. An older Thai gentleman with almost no English brought us menus. When we were ready to order we waved to him. Flustered, he asked us to wait. Fifteen minutes later we looked around for help. Nobody there. We asked the old man what was up. He pulled out a phone, made a call, and said, we should wait 20 minutes. We waited 30. Then we made to leave. The old man pulled the phone out, made another call, and asked us to wait 3 minutes. We waited 10. Still nobody there, so we left and walked to the beach to find lunch. This was no small inconvenience since the beach is almost 1 km away -- they claim it's 500 meters, but that's nonsense. When dinner time came we went down to inquire if there was food in the restaurant. They finally admitted the it was closed. We got two different excuses for this closure from two different employees. We felt deceived. The well reviewed restaurant was one reason we went there. But they posted no notice that the restaurant was not in operation. We had to drag this information out of them. We walked down to the beach again for dinner and back in the dark. The next day we checked out and went to a cheap, plesant bungalow operation on the beach (Lola's). As we checked out, a younger Thai woman -- one of the owners? -- said to me, ''My mother told me you had a Chang Beer yesterday''. Yes, I said. I had two. And did she also tell you I paid her for both of them? If you've got your own transport and the restaurant was open this might be an okay place. But we felt deceived, abused and ripped off. Oh, by the way, they have a pack of not very friendly dogs.

My husband and I spent 4 nights at the Suanlunag Resort and it was great. Our free standing bungalow was clean, air-conditioned (a must in the hot season when we visited), had a fridge and a shower that worked very well.
The owners were very helpful and accommodating, they picked us up at the train station because we arrived rather late and opened their restaurant for us to have dinner. They also rented us bicycles and arranged for a massage.
We were a short walk from the beach and a slightly longer walk to the closest corner store. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and actually extended it because we enjoyed it so much.
I would highly recommend staying here.

If you want quietness is the place to be. Near the beach you could walk on few kilometers. All informations to discover the region (anothers beatiful beach, water fall , Wat) with a motorbike they organize to rent. If you want something there just ask and they will find or fix anything . Nice prices (usually the food all is fresh and delicious),they also make BBQ Buffet on demand.
I've passed 2 wonderful weeks there and i want back there each time im in Thailande.
The region is out the tourisic tour and its great you could be alone on the beach.
You can see Gueckos and trained monkey climb on coconut tree, choose then make the coconut fall down

We arrived at the resort and found it too far away from the beach. The Suanluang-Lady then recommended another resort at the beach and even took us there to help us check in.
This was a great help since in that part of Thailand english-speaking natives are a rare sight, so this time we did not have to communicate using hands and feet.
The lady did not mind at all that we chose another place to stay and just seemed happy to help, you would not find that in my country.
During our stay we went over to Suanluang for eating to express our thanks and everytime got served really good food (thai and european) which the hostess cooked herself at reasonable prices (cheaper than in town, more expensive than in the jungle).
Whenever we casually mentioned what our plans were, she made good suggestions and the right phone calls to arrange things for us (scooters, massages, trips, everything). The lady seemed to have a sixth sense for that: Once we were discussing how to get to Hua Hin when suddenly the lady phoned us and told us she was in town near the railway station and asked if she should buy tickets for us.
After some trouble with a stealing maid at the other resort near the beach we moved over to Suanluang Resort. Again the hostess was a great help, she called the other resort's owner and drove us to town to the police (would have been impossible without her since noone speaks english well enough in that area).
The wooden bungalows themselves are simple, but cheap and fit nicely into the surroundings. There is a lot of nature to be seen and although we only had a fan-room it somehow was never too hot.
Regarding the dogs:
There are dogs and cats all over the area, not just at the resort and i must admit that i found it scary once when I was walking home from the beach in the dark followed by barking dogs. They didnt attack me though, but i would not try patting them.
The Suanluang Resort has its own dogs too who tend to make a hell of a noise if you walk past the main building, but there is always someone keeping them in the house or veranda, so no worries. It actually does make the place safer.
Conclusion:
If you are looking for luxury and neatly-uniformed servants fulfilling your wishes at all times, this is not the right place.
If you are looking for an authentic and friendly place to stay with good food and cheap prices, you will enjoy your stay.
I am giving 5 points not because of the resort itself, but because of the super-friendly thai-hostess who solved all our little problems and the energy she puts into running this resort almost alone.
She really cares for this place and the customer's satisfaction and during our stay told of some french lady who keeps stalking her with threats towards the resort because she did not get a discount on the discount on the discount and was asked to pay for a damage she caused to a fridge by burning the decoration. Some people should really start thinking before talking..
If i ever go to Bang Saphan (very nice locals and english permanent residents by the way) again, this is my place to stay.

What a good place to stay with the best service in town! When we got there with a few friends we wanted to stay closer to the beach which is only 700 metres away from this place. The nice Lady was so helpful to arrange everything for us althought we didnt stay at her place. But we went to Suanluan Resort everyday for our meals because we were so impressed by the friendliness of the owners. And of course by the very good self cooked (thai)food! The Lady Korr helped us with any question we had about tours, travelling, motorbikes, busses, transport...whatever we needed and asked for...it took her not even a minute to arrange it! After a few days we moved over to suanluan resort because we had some trouble in our place where we stayed before. And when we rang there late at night to ask if we could come and move it was arranged in a minute again. No worries at all, of course we could come right now. The Lady sorted out all the trouble we had for and with us and we were so happy to stay there! The prices are good, the food is amazing but the very best is the service! It is a very nice comfortable place in the nature with a beautiful restaurant. The walk to the beach is a nice djungle walk and if you rent some of the cheap and good scooters nearby to explore the area its just a jump...I would always recommend to go there!!! Thanks again for everything!

We spend almost a week at Suanluang Resort and we can definitely recommend to stay there. It's a family run resort which has about 10 bungalows (fan/AC) seated in a lovely garden with huge plants. Even it's a tropical area the biodiversity around is dominated by monoculture of plam trees so that Suanluang Resort is a little bit like a Garden of Eden. You can hang out in a hammock, enjoy the cool shadow and watch all the different birds, geckos and butterflies.
There is a restaurant belonging to the Resort which offers excellent Thai food. It's not open all day but opens in the evening (but there are enough places to eat out during day time). The people running the Resort are extremely friendly, they may also help you handle the diversity of Thai food and help you finding something you like ;)
To get to the beach it takes maybe a 5 miuntes walk which is also nice as you see all kind of Thai lifestyle and nature. At the beach there are several bars, a restaurant and massage place. The beach is lovely with only few people, no rocks, waist or glass which makes it perfect for family stay.
For a rather low price you get a comfortable bungalow with terrace in a beautiful surrounding. Considering touristic development the region is still very authentic. You can discover authentic thai lifestyle, visit a waterfalls or nature resorts. You can either do that by yourself and rent a bike at the resort (for little money) or book a tour at the reception.
I can highly recommend this place if you are looking for lonely beaches, pure nature, good food and friendly people.

We have been travelling around the world since April 2010, and therefore have stayed in many many guesthouses and hotels. This is our 8th time in Thailand and prices have gone up over the last 3 years. Inflation is high. This hotel was very good value. We stayed in one of the air con rooms for 680 Baht per night with FREE breakfast. Usually free breakfasts at hotels in Asia are not worth it, but I have to say this one was. Coffee/tea fresh juice toast and fruit was very surprising! Worth 70 baht itself. The hotel has huge grounds, and I am told the many dogs are great for security. Although the dogs sit in the restaurant, the were all very freindly, and did not bother us at all. All dogs were clean and well looked after. All were rescue dogs, and until Asia understands the need for control of the number of dogs on the streets, you will always see dogs every where. We in fact are travelling with an Indian Street dog we rescued while living in Calcutta in 2012. Anyway I will be staying at his resort again in a months time when we head back from the south of Thailand. the rooms here, although small, are very very very clean, good AC great hot showers and very quiet. Although we are British most of the other guests seemed to be French retired people. We had a car, and always prefer to be back off the beach as you get better value for money on room rates.

My fiancé and I stayed here for one night, and were quite disappointed. We had been traveling through Thailand for a month in places similar to this (bungalow style, inexpensive, not posh by any means), though the over all vibe to this place is incredibly negative.
Some things all travelers must know about this place: it is not beach front, it is a long walk to the beach down a very narrow road (watch out for the fast drivers). There is a pack of dogs there, (which there is anywhere and everywhere in Thailand) however these are aggressive and possibly abused based off of their behavior. Do not pet the dogs! The owners seem to think its no big deal when a dog snaps at you which two of their dogs did to both myself and my fiancé. And I'm a dog lover. The bungalows themselves are very nice in my opinion, the bed was nice, air con worked (mostly, it was loud and freezing, no middle ground) shower worked great. But be careful! It doesn't look as if they have been maintained, many floorboards on the outside patio have become rotten and are close to collapsing. So be careful, and maybe consider that as the general upkeep to the whole establishment. When they say breakfast is included, they mean they give you 2 pieces of toast, 2 small bananas, coffee and oj. Be prepared to still be hungry.
Bummer bummer. Hope it works out for whoever stays there next!
