Relaxing and friendly atmosphere. Pretty surroundings and steeped in village life. If you are local, visitor or tourist definitely drop in for a drink or meal or perhaps even just a coffee. The menu offers good pub grub and the specials board that little bit extra. The open coal fire is a treat on a cold winters day.

Brought in 2017 with great festive cheer and entertainment, even a generous spread of food put on by the owners. Had an amazing new year's day dinner which was great value. The venison was beautiful and I hope today's food will be considered as a permanent addition to the menu.

We stay here nearly every month when we go gold panning. It is in a gorgeous scenic location perfect for gold panning, walking and outdoor activities. The bedrooms are modern, always warm and cosy with everything you need. The bar area is welcoming with an open fire and comfy chairs. The owners are fantastic, always happy and make you feel...

Love this hotel. Stayed for the first time and will be returning on my next trip to Scotland. Arrived after dark so could not appreciate the drive from M74 to Leadhills. The room was fabulous and bathroom enormous with free standing bath and separate shower. Excellent service from staff. Breakfast had everything and was very generous. Thank you.

A wonderful pub style bed and breakfast. I arrived after dark so didn't really take in any surroundings. After staying in a recently renovated room, which was immaculate, I opened my curtains to a quaint snow covered village*. A pleasant awakening to say the least. The bathroom was phenomenal and even had a remote control in it so you could...

Should have stayed here rather than the hotel in Abington. Had a nice meal, very hospitable proprietor. Discussed local music and social scene. Location a bit hard to reach. "Highest residential hotel in Scotland."

I have just spent four days at this hotel which turned out to be fabulous. Rab and Rachel made us all feel so welcome and could not do enough to make us feel at home. I will certainly be returning to this wonderful location and do not hesitate to recommend this hotel to everyone

We booked the Hopetoun Arms Hotel for our wedding anniversary after driving through the area earlier in the year. Princes were very reasonable and we received a very warm welcome from every single person working there including the owner's who were genuine in everything they did and said. Breakfast was superb and packed lunches available for those heading out into...

And the gold is in the shape of the Hopetoun Arms and its staff. After a bit of late season walking we headed off to do part of the Southern Upland Way with two nights in the Hopetoun Arms. From meeting one of the owners chatting to passers-by on arrival to the lovely send off after checking out this was...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Hopetoun Arms Hotel, originally constructed in the mid-19th century as a hunting lodge for the Hopetoun Estate, now forms the heart of the Scottish village of Leadhills in Lanarkshire and is the highest residential hotel in the United Kingdom. Set in the open countryside of the Lowther Hills in the Southern Uplands ‘twixt’ the rivers Nith and Clyde, the hotel is within one hour drive from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Carlisle, and just fifteen minutes from the towns of Sanquhar and Abington. Our family run private hotel and village inn offers eleven letting bedrooms, clean comfortable accommodation, good hospitality and excellent home cooked food, including a selection of mouth watering vegetarian dishes. We hold a full hotel license, so after your day out walking, cycling, golfing or just taking in the surrounding area, you can relax in comfort and enjoy a ‘wee dram’ in our fireside lounge, or if you prefer you can catch up with the friendly village locals in our cosy village bar. Whether your stay with us is on business or pleasure, you can be sure that after your stay with us is concluded, you’ll feel relaxed, invigorated and keen to return. ... more   less
