Let me start by stating that my husband and I are seasoned travellers. We have stayed at many budget hostels in various countries and had not experienced such a terrible night as we did at Hotel Visitel. I rated the service as 'terrible' however one of the staff members was very nice and helpful. The reason I rated the service...

I arranged a visit to Montreal for my grilfriend's birthday. We planned a museum visit, dinner, a concert and cross country sking. We booked the room, confirmed with a credit card. They Emailed to say they coud not accomodate us and that we were on our own. We ended up driving back to upstate NY in the middle of the...

My wife had wanted to visit Montreal for several years so we picked a very cold weekend in January. She made reservations at the Hotel Visitel on Rue Saint Hubert. The hotel was small but very nice and very clean. It was extremely close to the Main Metro Station and within two blocks of Rue Saint Denis and an abundance...

This place was great and I would definately stay here again! The bus from the airport stops across the street and the metro is only one block away. It is a great location!! We got a room with a queen bed because I heard the double beds are too small. We also had a private bath. The room was small...

I found this hotel on this site and was very happy I did. The hotel staff where great. Very friendly and offered great information of Montreal. The room was clean and alot bigger then expected. Breakfast was bagels and toast with juice and coffee, which isn't bad, just simple. One thing I was happy I read was to expect that...

I looked for a hotel for just one night in Montreal close to the greyhound station. Booking.com advised me to book hotel visitel. The personal wasn't very fluent in English or even understandble French. The room was big with two beds but wasn't so clean. The bath is tiny! It's not very central but perfect for my cause. Taxi to...

The only good point with this hotel is that it was clean. As for the bad points: 1. The rate they charged me was higher than the rate I was given on booking.com 2. Staff were unhelpful and apathetic 3. No elevator. Only steep stairs. 4. When reserving the room I knew it would be a shared bathroom. I didn't...

We were right next to historic and amazing St. Catherine's street, as well as the Village Gai, many great places to eat and shop just outside our hotel. The staff was always available, and we were in a safe part of town!

Staying in The Village (Gay Village)

Neighbourhood Profile
The Village (Gay Village)
The rainbow pillars of Beaudry Métro Station shepherd the way into to The Village, one of the largest hubs for gay and lesbian culture in North America. With an open layout and a congenial aura, the refurbished buildings along Rue Sainte-Catherine pay a special homage to menswear and to caffeine, with showrooms and cafes. By morning, the antiquing gems along Amherst Street are packed with collectors. An incredible party spot, The Village comes alive at night, when clubs, bars, and dance halls open their doors and the revelry is high, epitomised by the fanciful trimmings of the apropos Oscar Wilde building. From May to September, the area closes to automotive traffic, allowing restaurant terraces to pour onto the streets, creating a dynamic sense of community. Les Boules Roses, thousands of pink baubles, are hung to welcome in the festivals and celebrations, including Montréal en Arts, Divers-Cité, and the Pride Parade.
