As a former resident of Montreal, I am quite familiar with the range of hotels available. The Gault is a lovely heritage property brought up to the present day with extra amenities and comfortable rooms. The food and beverage are of top quality and the property is charming and comfortable. The only critique I might offer is that the desk...

I stayed at the Gault in early November...actually, it was the US election, now that I think about it. The room and service were impecible, but there really was no vibe - the lobby/resto/bar were all empty, but then again so was all of Old Montreal. I'd definitely stay again, based on the well-designed room and the front desk staff...

My husband and I had an amazing stay at Hotel Gault. The room was unique, incredibly comfortable, and had everything we needed. The staff really makes you feel welcome, which made our experience that much better. We will be back.

Loved it in every way. From start to finish our experience for two nights was perfect. It was easy to book, we got a great rate that included a coupon book worth hundreds of dollars in savings. We actually used one of the coupons to get a substantial savings on a private tour of old Montreal. It was an excellent...

Expensive, but worth it. Beautiful, spare, quiet rooms. (Although all over Montreal there is the inevitable moment of garbage truck collection... ) The brunch is fantastic, in fact the hotel is a nice place to do business brunches. Staff is attentive and helpful. The colour palate is restful.

My wife and I and 3 children visited the Gault in August. We drove up from Maine. Their was parking included, a wonderful interesting room with a modern design. I felt special staying here. The front desk people were great and very friendly. The room was cool and well appointed with heated floors in the bathroom too. Finally, by calling the hotel directly, I got the best rate too. I will stay here again when in Montreal.

This very modern hotel is located in the building that held the first YMCA in N. America (built 1871). Service was outstanding - we checked in after a long drive into the city and were offered fresh coffee and warm chocolate chip cookies on checked in. The rooms are a good size (only 3 on floor 5) with sitting area,...

Great Hotel, very interesting interior and exterior design. Definitely a step-up from other price point comparables. The only negative point was some of the artwork, especially the one photograph in the elevator, did not reflect the class of the hotel and cheapened the overall feel. Otherwise, everything was great.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
