Ideal location along the waterfront and Quais of the Vieux Port, near Place Royal. Staff was accommodating for a late arrival, secure entry, beautiful neighborhood amidst cafes, shops, al fresco dining and cobblestone streets. Very short walk to the Basilica Notre Dame and lots of nightlife. Large suite, exposed brick wall, charmingly creaky parquet floor, no elevator, clean bath with...

My room was beautiful, comfortable and quiet, toward the side of the house. The bathroom was very nice, and the minifridge and coffee station well supplied with snacks, cereal and drinks (for purchase). The river is across a major road, but I had no problem with road noise, and drivers were courteous so I had no problem crossing to visit...

Location was great, would be hard for us to find had we not been taken there by a taxi. Rooms are spacious and have everything you need. Free wifi is great. I hate when They nickel and dime you for everything. Even a computer and printer if you need it is available. They had some guitars there for guests to...

The hotel is placed in front of the best point of old Montreal, therefore you can walk throughout most of the attractions. The stops of the sightseeing buses are also nearby which make the tourism easier. The room is nice, cosy and comfortable. The only objection would be the stairs, when u have luggages to carry... But the staff is...

Excellent location. Hotel and room stocked with every imaginable useful item, including loaner bikes and toaster oven. Bed was comfortable. Old building has charm - this place is not for those who prefer modern chain hotels.

My husband stayed at Auberge de la Place Royale for our honeymoon this August. Overall very pleased with our stay. Our room was enormous and comfortable, with very good AC (important because it was so hot in Montreal!) Bathroom was large and updated. The hotel is in a prime spot right smack in the middle of Old Montreal, which is definitely...

We stayed here only one night but found it an attractive, pleasant and comfortable place. This is an older building updated as a hotel. Our room was large, comfortable, and attractively decorated. If you are looking for the Marriott this is not the place for you, but if you want to experience the local culture, you will like it here....

The service, location and ambiance at this lovely boutique hotel - all were spectacular. The room was exceptionally comfortable - floor to ceiling windows brought the beautiful landscape and setting inside. Thank you!

For a great stay in Old Montreal, try the Auberge de la Place Royale. This quaint hotel offers a great value, on the waterfront, and easy access to the water, sites, and the metro. The rooms are large, but it does not have an elevator. The also operates an outdoor cafe.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
