We were excited about our first visit to Montreal. We were staying at the Queen Victoria which was in a great location from which we could explore the city. As it turned out it was a great location but not a great hotel. She badly needs a major facelift. The lobby, the elevators, the halls, the rooms and the restaurants...

We stayed here in the summer of 2015.Very nice location to reach all downtown destinations.Shame hotel is so dated. As if we were transported back to the French Connection era.Maybe management should request the same or similar designer who refurbished The Royal York Hotel in Toronto City.Fairmont Group also.... Breakfast food was great as it was cooked by a French chef...

We stayed at the Fairmont Hotel in May of 2016 - we were there for a conference. The venue is lovely - but the hotel really does need some renovations. As the hotel is older, the rooms are very small. So small in fact, that we need to put our suitcase on the window sill of the room. The walls...

Our family stayed there for two nights on a vacation. The hotel location is very central and the hall is beautiful and the room is nicely decorated. The room is a reasonable size and the view of the city is wonderful. We dove there and the parking was a bit pricey bit acceptable. We love to return there someday.

Good location, hotel ok, but probably there are better places to stay in Montreal. But the Fairmonts in Quebec City and Ottawa are not to be missed. The pool was quite nice even though it's underground.

I am late in writing this, but am reminiscing about the wonderful 5 days that my daughter and I spent here last December /January. We would have happily rung in the New Year in the same place for this year, but, alas, it is closed for renovations. I was personally a fan of the Reine Elizabeth pre-reno. Old can mean...

Perfect location, positioned above the railway station in the city centre. It was several weeks away from closing for a 12 month refit and refurbishment throughout as very old and in need of of a lot of maintenance. When it opens in June 2017, it should be the place to stay.

I have stayed at this property numerous times before, and returned for business recently. The room was fine, typical Fairmont quality and size. However, housekeeping had forgotten to open up the armoire (an old TV cabinet now empty because of the new TV in the room), and the previous guest had left a small collection of (unopened) jam jars, fruit...

Have stayed here about a dozen times over the years; it is so convenient if you arrive by train (Via Rail main station is the basement). It's ranks in the top 2 of my go-to hotels for Montreal. There's a large food court and attached shopping if you need some more choices. An underground pathway can bypass a lot of...

Weekend trip with the boys. great location - steps from Ste.Catherine Street and a short walk from the Bell Centre where we watched a UFC match. Rooms are in the smaller side but clean and to be expected from these older hotels. Went for a swim and hot tub. No sauna though!

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
