My friends and I moved from Ireland to Toronto in January this year and stayed at the planet traveler for our first two weeks in the city. Overall, it was a fantastic experience and we were delighted with the location, the amenities , food(free breakfast) but most of all the staff. The hostel staff treat you like family and go...

I spent only one night here, price was a bit more for a dorm bed than I'm used to but overall the best hostel I've ever stayed at. The location is in a great part of Toronto (the balcony has awesome views!) close to Kensington markets and on a tram line to downtown. The interiors are super nice and clean,...

I stayed at Planet Traveler on a recent visit to Toronto. It is very modern with a pleasant atmosphere. The hostel is very clean, rooms are spacious and the common rooms are an enjoyable place to spend some down time and meet fellow travellers. The hostel is very eco friendly and they encourage recycling and have solar panels on the...

This hostel was one of the best places to stay in Toronto. The walk to the center of downtown was only 15-20 mins away and was located in a great location. The staff was awesome, Kathrine was one of the coolest person I met there and she worked there! Events going on at night and saturdays they provided free pasta...

You felt welcome from the moment you arrived, with a tour of the hostel you felt at home. The rooms were clean & the beds comfy. The breakfast which is included is bagels, fruit, loads cereals with free tea and coffee all day. It's the perfect breakfast to get you going for the day. There's a great kitchen and lounge...

Great hostel just NW of Downtown area of Toronto with a downstairs common area, three floors of rooms and a rooftop "bar" (no alcohol is sold). Prices are relatively cheap and breakfast is included (toast, cereal, bananas) as well as tea, coffee and hot chocolate any time you want. Staff are friendly and helpful, as are all the patrons I...

Right next to the Kensington Market, this hostel cannot get any better. Great view on Toronto from the hotel's terrace, nice staff, tasty breakfast provided, room cleaned every day, wi-fi and very affordable! What more a traveller needs on his/her journey? A really cool place when they organise parties. If you want to discover the neighbourhood, go do Kensigton Market,...

The facilities were clean and also up to date. My dorm room had its own restroom and lockers. I was impressed by how efficient and how nice everything was in the entire hostel. I really enjoyed the common areas and met a lot of nice travelers, including the hostel staff. They have fun event nights and have a huge area...

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
