What a shame some tourists do not take the the trouble to acquaint themselves with local customs. Outdoor footwear is not worn in the home in many countries including Canada. So our unhappy guests missed the point. Most B&Bs are private homes and normally the hostess gives you a generous window of time for check in - so that they too...

We stayed at Avoca for one night with friends visiting from the UK. Yvonne greeted us warmly and we were made to feel very welcome. Yvonne had just had the carpets cleaned so it was not a problem to take our shoes off as it seems to have with some people who have stayed there. Who wants dirty shoes on...

We arrived at this B&B and there was no one there to let us in ( Yvonne said she expected us 30 minutes later)..... We were given the code to gain entry. When she arrived we were told to remove our shoes (never have we been asked to do this on all our travels round the world....). The rooms smelt...

As we were booking at the last minute, we were unable to get into most places. This B&B, set in a modest residential neighbourhood of splits and ranch houses, was a disapointment. The breakfasts were not as good as we have had at other places and the room on the lower ground floor was just OK. While we did not...

The lovely proprietor shared her home with us and made us feel at home. We were not trapped in our bedroom, but we were brought into community with our fellow travelers. Our time spent here at Niagara on the Lake was certainly enriched by her charm, her stories, and our conversations with other guests. At first we were disappointed that...

Host Yvonne McMorrough welcomed us warmly to Avoca B&B, in her home in Niagara on the Lake. She provided us not only with comfortable rooms and a hearty breakfast every morning, but also information on local golf courses and sightseeing possibilities, and an invitation to the local Strawberry Festival where she participated in a poetry reading. Without her suggestion, we...
