The most important for this place it's to know what kind of room you're looking for. Because you can be surprised! we didn't need a big room, but a small one for two. So I booked the mini-double. It's really MINI... You can upgrade if you want so no problem with that. I recommand it for a stay in Victoria....

We stayed for one night in a small private room with two bunks. The room had nice touches like an electric fan, a fridge, a chair and desk. The room was definitely small but there was enough room for the two of us and our luggage. The hostel was very clean, if a bit shabby, but the staff were super...

The Ocean Island Backpackers Inn is located in the center of Downtown Victoria, so a good position to start a siteseeing trip of the city. 30 minutes it'll take to the Beacon Hill Park, where you can enjoy a grand view to some montains of the United States. One of the central busstations is just one block far from the...

Thank you for your comments. I'll add that there are 2 supermarkets pretty close by: Welburn's and The Market on Yates. Both are only a few blocks from Ocean Island. Chinatown's only a few blocks away too!

I stayed for nearly 4 weeks in the Ocean Island Inn hostel which is located in Downtown Victoria. You can easily reach most attractions of Victoria by walking. The Hostel as itself is a nice place, if you are interested in meeting new people and enjoying the evenings, because the Hostel offers a lot of attractions. For example there are...

6 people packed in a little room... one bed double booked... bathroom sign 'in repair'... next bathroom: also sign not to use and the bath almost complete vanished.. no towel at check in, I think because taking a shower is not common (if possible) there.. Wider area around the hostel if full of weirdo's and wacko's. This means in the...

Hi Karel1967, Thanks for your comments. I'm confused as to why, if you booked a private room, you stayed in a dorm. Could you please email me directly about that? As for the other concerns you had with our property: Towels - are available for rent at the front desk for an $8 deposit (and you get $7 back when...

I had pretty low expectations for this place. It was cheap and I am in grad school, so its how I needed to roll. However, I was pleasantly surprised that the Ocean Island Inn is right in the middle of all the action downtown. I stayed in one of the private rooms which was teeny tiny, but private. I didn't...

This might be a good hostel if you are 18 or in your early twenties...We are a couple in our early 30's, professionals (one actually writes travel guides) and we spent the month of July camping and traveling across Canada, sometimes staying in budget motels. This place was by far the worst of our entire trip. The room was advertised...

Definitely not your average hotel; this place is way more fun and interesting! The rooms are bright and colourful. There is a great little kitchen, cafe and lounge on the main floor where you can get an inexpensive meal or listen to music on the weekends. The staff are helpful and internet is available in the lobby. It is in...

My husband and I stayed in one of the category 9 rooms at Ocean Island for 2 nights. This category has a queen sized bed, attached bathroom and windows. For the price it was a very good place to stay. However, because it is cheap, it is not luxurious. The bed and bathroom were adequate, but quite spartan. We got...

Hi! We're glad you enjoyed your stay! We do not service the PR9 rooms when people are staying in them--only before and after guests check out--to ensure our guests' privacy. However, you can get new towels each day! Just bring your old towel down to the Front Desk, and trade it for a clean new one for free. I apologize...
