Accommodation in Vancouver can be expensive but I found the Windsor to be very good value for the money. I was visiting my brother in hospital at VGH so the 10 minute walk on flat ground was very convenient. The house is in a quiet residential neighborhood 2 blocks from the Broadway Canada Line stop ( which is downhill to get to) Bus stops are even closer. My room was on the first floor and had a queen size bed, fridge, fireplace and on suite bathroom. It was very clean and although no A/C (which is typical for BC) was very comfortable.
No trouble dropping luggage off before check in and coming and going is done by a code on the main door plus your room key. I didn't go with the breakfast as due to Covid it was only a tray left at your door. There are several coffee shops close by to get some breakfast. Also there are many restaurants along Cambie St for lunch or dinner. If you want to get anywhere a Compass card is worth the purchase. False Creek and access to Granville Island is a 10 minute walk downhill or one Canada Line stop. I would certainly stay here again.

This heritage building has plenty of character. It is set in a pleasant and quiet area, yet only 5 minutes’ walk to the metro station. The communal lounge and dining room are lovely. Our room had character, but was a bit lacking. The lack of an outside view from the windows didn’t help. I’m sure there are better rooms in the guest house. Breakfast was fine and the staff we met were very friendly and helpful.
Note - make sure you get the access code before arrival if you are reliant on wifi for the internet.

Excellent location. Breakfast pretty good: omelets and pancakes made to order. The house smells, probably because of the old carpets throughout the house. After opening the window, it is tolerable. The window in the Diane Room could not stay open and had to be propped open with a cup. Bathroom on 2nd floor is clean but needs more countertop or table space and more wall hooks to put things on. Price is good. Security is bad - they leave the keys in the front mailbox. Neighborhood is quiet.

The Windsor is well-located and relatively inexpensive. The rooms are good sized. The breakfast has many options and is hearty (although it starts a little late - 8:00 am). However, similar to another's comments, there was black mildew growing in all of the tile joints in the shower stall, and this gave off a terrible smell. When I mentioned this, we were promptly offered another room, which we accepted. I was surprised to see this mildew; because of the previous comments, I had called ahead and inquired about the comment and was assured that this was just a grumpy person and indeed their B&B was clean! The Windson is OK, but if cleanliness is important like it is to us, I would recommend another place. Be careful, there is a three-day cancellation policy here!

This place was not clean, there was mold growing on the shower wall, dirty hand prints on the walls and items and old food left from the last guests to stay in the room, the caretakers were nosey and pushy and someone's car was broken into while I was there. Should be avoided at all costs.

My staff and I are deeply disturbed that these guests were unhappy with their lodging. If we can rectify these problems I would appreciate hearing from you again. We go out of our way to be helpful and friendly, and would like to please all our guests.

We are an elderly couple who flew into Vancouver to catch a cruise ship, so needed a place to stay for one night. We chose Windsor because it was quite close to the Skytrain line - the guest house is about a 10 minute walk from Broadway/City Hall station. However, we found that to be quite difficult for older people because about half of the walk is up-hill, which is not easy with heavy suitcases on rollers. Next time we would take a cab from the station. Incidentally, Skytrain is very easy to use. You don't need to find Canadian money to buy a ticket - you just tap your credit card at the turnstile, upon entering and again when leaving. Brilliant !!
We stayed in the Richard Room, the advantage being this room has its own bathroom attached. But the disadvantage of Richard is the steep and narrow flight of stairs (12 steps) that you have to negotiate (with your heavy suitcase) to get to the room. No lift. No porter.
The staff were discrete and helpful with their local knowledge.
Others have commented on the breakfast which we found to be more than adequate.
Would we stay again? Probably, now that we know what to expect.

We only stayed for one night before catching a flight home and chose the Windsor mainly for its convenient location a few minutes' walk from the Canada Line for fast, easy access to both the airport and downtown. It's an attractive heritage house on a quiet residential road within easy walking distance of shops and restaurants. Our room was quite small and simply furnished but was comfortable and had everything we needed for an overnight stay. Breakfast was fine and the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We particularly appreciated being able to leave our luggage there while we filled in time before our evening flight. We thought it was a bit expensive for what it was but it's probably reasonable by Vancouver standards.

We stayed while picking up friends coming off a cruise. The rooms were clean and ample sized. Breakfast was very satisfactory, included fruit, cereal, and made to order eggs/omelets. The rail stop was only 21/2 blocks away. There were 4 parking spaces, first come first served. We had a shared bathroom for 2 rooms which was clean and not an issue. A sink was in the room. Ample restaurants were within walking distance. Recommend.

Staying at this guest house was an unpleasant experience right from the beginning.

As soon as I stepped in the door I was asked for my credit card--no greeting; the woman did not even give me her name (it was not the manager). Not exactly the warm hospitality promised on their website: "We are very proud of our warm hospitality with friendly and helpful staff always at hand."

I had e-mailed the manager a few days prior to my departure that I would be getting in early, but when I arrived at noon my room was still not ready despite check-out being at 11am. The previous guest had not yet checked out and was not even around. I was not given an apology and was asked to wait an hour (again, not very helpful, especially since check-in is supposed to be at noon) even though I was exhausted from my flight. I was not feeling well and just wanted to lie down. After I insisted, two women went up to move out the person's belongings and clean the room (don't know how much they could clean in 10 minutes).

I then had to lug my suitcase up the long staircase to the second floor. As soon as I lay down, however, the jackhammers started next door, so I got very little rest. I would wake up to jackhammers and heavy construction each morning around 7:30 (a new building is being constructed right next door). Not a pleasant beginning to the day. For that reason alone I would have chosen another accommodation, but there was no mention of the construction on Windsor House's website when I was researching Vancouver B&Bs in late July.

The bed was extremely uncomfortable as well, and the sheets, as far as I could tell, were not changed the entire 4 days I stayed. The one window in my room only opened a crack so they had a small fan in there. Good thing because the room had a musty odor.

The bathroom did not seem to be cleaned either as evidenced by the hairs on the floor and in the bathtub (I shared with one other room).

Breakfast was no more than adequate with terrible coffee and sparse fruit. The woman doing the breakfast never said good-morning to me and was generally unfriendly. I decided to skip the breakfast the last day and go to Whole Foods 10 minutes away where I could eat well and relax.

This accommodation deceptively advertises itself. It's definitely not a "grand Victorian manor." It's an old house with musty smells and old furniture. Also misleading was the mention of a guest computer and phone located downstairs in the living room. Both the free computer and phone were old and did not work well. The computer even broke down one day. There was a cordless phone you could take with you if you wanted to have a private conversation upstairs, but its battery life was very short (5 minutes or so).

The brochure they have at the B&B says it's 10 mins to Stanley Park--not true; 5 mins to Granville Island--not true; one block to major transportation--not true. It's about 3 blocks to the Sky Train, which goes to the airport or to downtown. It took me about 30 mins to get to Stanley Park by public transportation. I don't even think it would be 10 mins by car.

I've stayed in quite a few affordable B&Bs in Canada and the U.S. where my husband and I were treated excellently and ate and slept very well. This B&B, however, falls far short of the quality service and comfort that we've come to expect from a B&B.

Response from bachelorbroad, Manager at Windsor Guest House
Responded 8 Sept 2011
The management and staff working at the Windsor Guest House, have over 30 years of collective experience in the hospitality trade, and we have never run into a more unpleasant guest. It is true that there are renovations taking place next door, which we have no control over, and we have spoken to the developer and city hall about the noise but have not been able to come to an agreement with either party. So we have dropped our normal seasonal rates to compensate our guests for the early "wake up call" and will continue to so until the construction is complete. As for the multitude of other complaints she raised, I will not offer a comment except to say this guest managed to stay with us for four days!! so it can't have been that terrible.

Windor's location was ok - near shops, resturant and city hall in the downtown area. We only took this location because we couldn't get a place on the island. This B&B was ran by in-house staff not owner (who lived somewhere else and ran a number of other B&Bs). Upon entering the house (arrived after 3:00 p.m. and an envelope was tape to the door with our keys) it smelled overwhelmingly of fried bacon and old grease. Luckly the weather was great and we could open the windows to air the place out. The furnishing was a mish mashed and looked like it was picked up in old antique shops and not lovingly cared for. Breakfast was just ok but I noticed that they purchased the cheapest ingredents to serve e.g. the maple syrup bottles were recycled and they pulled out a huge gallon bottle of inexpensive syrup to fill the recycled bottles. The room was clean but the headboard wasn't attached to the bed so we had to be careful not to move the bed to hard otherwise we would bang the walls with the headboard.

Hello folks I no longer work at Windsor House, but Paul is still the owner and it was closed for the past 6 months for some restoration, but reopened at the end of March 2016. Hardeep is the new "hostess with the mostest" and her breakfasts are legendary, The Douglas and Cambie Lodge are also still running. Any questions can be directed to Claudia our new manager.,
